David Kwartler of South Fallsburg passed away peacefully at home on August 1, 2007. He was 71. The son of Sidney and Mary Veniscofsky Kwartler, he was born March 5, 1936 in Monticello.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was also a retired correctional officer.
Survivors include one son, Michael Kwartler from Binghamton; one daughter, Kim Salva of Boca Raton, Fla.; four grandchildren, Christopher and Steven Kwartler, Stephanie and Krystal Salva; two sisters, Barbara McCullough of Orlando, Fla., and Sandra Moffett of Middletown; one brother, Mark Kwartler of Fallsburg; two nephews, Harrison and Jason Kwartler; and two nieces, Robin Stephenson of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Tracey McCullough of St. Petersburg, Fla.
The family extends a very special thanks to Sheldon Dishner and Herbie Gold for their special friendship and care the past couple of years.
Services will be private.
Arrangements were directed by Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, Woodbourne.
Kathryn Rose Hulse
Homemaker, 94
Kathryn Rose Hulse, a lifelong Pike County, Pa. and Sullivan County resident, passed away on Friday, August 3, 2007 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 94.
She was born on June 2, 1913 in Greeley, Pa., the daughter of Oscar and Katherine Stoehr Dellert.
She and Millard L. Hulse celebrated 40 years of marriage when he passed away in 1974.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Barryville. She was a working mother and homemaker, active in church and civic organizations; she served some 20 years on the Board of Elections in the town of Highland.
A family statement says, "Our mother was the foundation of our family. Hardworking and dedicated to her children and their education, she also thoroughly enjoyed a good time, baking, crocheting, doing her crossword puzzles and a good, dry martini in the evening. She will always live in our hearts."
She is survived by sons, Millard O. Hulse and wife Linda of Butte, Mont., David Hulse of Barryville; grandson, Tim Hulse of Butte, Mont.; brother, Charles J. Dellert of Shohola, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews and their children.
She was predeceased by brothers, Oscar Dellert of Minn. and Edmund "Fritz" Dellert of Greeley, Pa.; and a sister, Gertrude Hessberger of Port Jervis.
There will be no visitation.
Cremation will be private.
Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Lackawaxen, Pa. at the convenience of the family.
Plans for a memorial gathering will be announced at a later date.

Ralph W. Johnson
Const. Supervisor, 65
Ralph W. Johnson of Cuddebackville, was born January 13, 1942 in Godeffroy, the son of the late William B. and Leona G. DeGraw Johnson. He was 65.
A construction supervisor working out of the Operating Engineers Local No. 825 and lifetime resident of the area, he died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at his home.
Ralph was a longtime member, former Chief, Fire Commissioner and driver of the Cuddebackville Fire Dept., he was also a member of the Otisville Sportsman Club and TriState Rod & Gun Club; and a former member of the Minisink Lanes Men´s Bowling League and Snowmobile Club of Godeffroy. Ralph also served his country in the U.S. Army.
A family statement reads, "Ralph was always there for anyone who asked for his help, and at the end of his job he enjoyed setting back and enjoying a 'cold one'."
He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Jackson Johnson at home; son, Eric Johnson and his wife, Cheryl of Cuddebackville; a brother, Larry Johnson and Rochelle of Godeffroy; two brothers-in-law, Richard Jackson and his wife, Sherry of Bloomingburg and Ronald Jackson of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; three step-grandchildren, Garey, Robert and William Wagner of Cuddebackville; two aunts, Anna Matthews and her husband, Frank of Milford, Pa. and Margaret DeGraw of Port Jervis; a nephew, Edmund Jackson of Bloomingburg; two nieces, Tammy Williams and her husband, James of Port Jervis and Terry Phillips of Huguenot; two great-nieces, Kristen Williams and Rebecca Phillips; two great-nephews, James Patrick Williams and C.J. Phillips; a cousin, Lester A. Hall at home; also many other cousins and friends.
Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Sunday, August, 12.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 12 noon at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in the Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville.

Bernard P. Murray, Sr.
Sales Mgr., 73
Bernard Patrick Murray Sr. of Southport, N.C., surrounded by his family, entered into rest peacefully at home on March 28, 2007. He was 73.
Born September 2, 1933 in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Patrick and Anne (Lennon) Murray.
Raised in Palisades Park, N.J., he was a graduate of Leonia High School. He received a bachelor’s degree from St. Peters College, where he also received a commission in the U.S. Army. He served at Fort Knox, Ky., and following his military service had a long and successful business career in sales management with Phelps Dodge and with Century Brass. He was a longtime resident of Mahwah, N.J. and Beaverkill.
Bernie was kind and considerate and filled with love, intelligence and sensitivity. He was loyal, honest and compassionate. He appreciated the beauty in simple things like dinner with his friends and family, sitting on his porch reading the paper and talking politics or simply chatting with a store clerk or a delivery person. He used his quick wit and humor to nurture his relationships and had the ability to see the good in most things. He lived his life without resentments and was at peace with himself and his spirituality. He considered his family his greatest blessing and he loved them unconditionally. Bernie will be dearly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
Survivors include his wife of more than 50 years, Kathleen Willich Murray at home; children, Bernard Patrick Murray Jr. and wife, Marijean of Long Valley, N.J., Carolyn Murray Frankenburg and husband, Kurt of Park City, Utah, Jacqueline Murray Laird and husband, Randall of Monroe, Albert Theodore Murray and wife, Patricia of Highland Mills, Elizabeth Murray Jensen and husband, David of Nazareth, Pa.; brother, John Murray and wife, Susan of Mahwah, N.J.; sister, Patricia Murray of New York; grandchildren, Ricky, Gabrielle, Liam, Alex, Packy, Sophie, Maureen, Fiona, Luisa, Kate, AJ and Sarah; nephews, Keith, Brian and Stephen; and numerous cousins and many, many dear friends.
A Funeral Mass was held on April 2, 2007 at Sacred Heart Church in Southport, N.C.
A graveside service and interment of ashes was held August 5 in the Beaverkill Valley Cemetery, Beaverkill. Monsignor William Collins officiated.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe.
Maybelle M. Dirie
Homemaker, 87
Maybelle Marie Dirie of Jeffersonville, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, November 28, 2004, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late Louis and Maude May Turner Boettger, she was born May 20, 1917 in the Town of Delaware.
Mrs. Dirie was a member of the Sullivan County Home Extension Service. She was a quilter with the Youngsville Ladies Aide Society of the Youngsville Reformed Church.
She is survived by her husband, Louis E. Dirie, at home; two sons, Clyde Dirie and his wife, Linda, of Youngsville, and Alan Dirie of Jeffersonville; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Andrea Dirie. Mrs. Dirie was predeceased by three sisters, Adele Knack, Elsie Pagano and Evelyn Boettger, and a brother, Frank Boettger.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Youngs-ville Reformed Church with Pastor Lee Andrews officiating.
Cremation will be made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott with burial of the cremains at the Hortonville Cemetery.

Charles Yaun
Ret. Businessman, 89
Charles "Hiram" Yaun of Liberty, a lifetime area resident and the founder of C. Yaun Sr. and Jr. Plumbing & Heating in Liberty, died Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at his home, after a long illness. He was 89 years of age.
The son of the late John and Lindie Walker Yaun, he was born February 3, 1915, in Liberty.
Mr. Yaun was a member of the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, a lifelong member of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department and a member of the Liberty Red Men.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marie Kirchner Yaun, at home; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Thomas C. and Barbara Yaun of Standwood, Wash., Charles H. Jr. and Joann Yaun of Liberty, Deming and Virginia Yaun of Beacon and Stacey Yaun and his companion, Rose Sprague, of Liberty; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy L. and Ronald Menges of Liberty, Linda M. Roidl and Wilbur Webb of Syracuse and Christine H. Yaun and George Crary of Sprarrowbush; 15 grandchildren, Keith Menges, Kathy DeNaro, Taunya Clarke, Kristopher Yaun, Jeffrey Yaun, Jennifer Yaun, Jessie Yaun, Thomas L. Crary, George Crary III, Kami Crary, Adam Yaun, Andrew Yaun, Carl Yaun, Justin Yaun and Cody Yaun; and seven great-grandchildren, Amanda DeNaro, Tiffany DeNaro, Kendall Menges, RuthAnne Clarke, Stuart Clarke, Charley Marie Yaun and Mark Bertram. He was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Funeral home with Pastor Bridgette LeConey officiating.
Burial will be made in the Laurel Hill Cemetery on White Sulphur Springs.

Thomas J. Burns of Rock Hill, a self-employed contractor and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at his home. He was 50 years of age.
The son of Bette Ryerson Burns and the late Roland Burns, he was born July 25, 1954, in Monticello.
He is survived by his mother of Fremont Center; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, James and Frankie Burns of Shelton, Wash., Ronald and Cindy Burns of Fallsburg and Richard Burns of Munci, Ind.; a sister and brother-in-law, Patti and Roy Millspaugh of Wurtsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Private cremation will be made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Julia Henle of Rock Hill, a homemaker and a former resident of North Bergen and Secaucus, N.J., died Sunday, November 28, 2004, at her home. She was 91 years of age.
The daughter of the late Antonio and Guiseppa Gerbino, she was born October 4, 1913, in West New York, N.J. She was the widow of Joseph Henle.
Mrs. Henle is survived by two children, Frances DeCaro and her husband, Fred, of New Fairfield, Conn., and Joseph Henle of Rock Hill; a grandson, Fred DeCaro III of Cos Cob, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six brothers, Joseph, John, Anthony, Salvatore, Louis and Vincent Gerbino.
