Frances E. "Sissy" Mathis-Brown of Monroe, a lifelong area resident and a machinist for Monroe Tube Company in Monroe, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at her home. She was 49 years of age.
The daughter of Jannie King Mathis and the late William J. Mathis, she was born May 26, 1955, in Spring Valley.
She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary #488 in Monroe; a member of the Lakeside Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Bronxer Bayern in the Bronx and was the Queen Mother of the Steel Talons Motorcycle Club in Monroe.
Mrs. Mathis-Brown is survived by her husband, William E. Brown Sr., at home; her mother of Pine Bush; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jason M. and Jennifer Mathis of Bloomingburg and William E. Jr. and Aimee Brown of Monroe; a daughter, Kelly Soto of Niagara Falls; a brother, William M. Mathis and his companion, Laura Van Duzer, of Bloomingburg; a sister and brother-in-law, Deb and Pete Brush of Pine Bush; 10 grandsons; a nephew, Scott Brush; a niece, Janna Brush; and a lifelong friend, Renee Taylor.
Funeral services were held at the Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home in Monroe on Sunday evening with the Rev. Rich Reinhardt officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeside Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary or to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary #488 both at Monroe, N.Y. 10950.
Janice Mastro
Kitchen Worker, 44
Janice Gabel Mastro, lifetime resident of Callicoon, kitchen staff worker at the Villa Roma Hotel, died Sunday, October 8, 2006 in Callicoon. She was 44.
Daughter of Joan Stratton Gabel and the late Leonard Gabel Sr., she was born on March 9, 1962 in Liberty.
Survivors include her mother, Joan Stratton Gabel of Callicoon; her husband, Dan Mastro of Callicoon; two daughters, Amber Rae Benson and her husband, Tim of Callicoon and Danielle Mastro at home; three sisters, Gail Gabel of Callicoon, Marie Wingert and her companion, Wayne Winters of Beach Lake, Pa., Carol Delaurencio and her husband, Fred of Callicoon; a brother, Leonard “Skip” Gabel and his wife, Denise of Callicoon; a granddaughter, Kayla Lynn Benson; four nephews, Michael and Matthew Wingert, Peter Donato, Eric Delaurencio and one niece, Erin Delaurencio; and several cousins.
Friends may call on Tuesday, October 10, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, October 11, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, 34 Upper Main Street, Callicoon.
Services will be on Wednesday, October 11, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Reverend Robert Hoag will officiate.
Burial will be in the Bauernfeind Cemetery in the Beechwoods in Callicoon.

Donald Fries
Carpenter, 57
Donald A. Fries, a carpenter, of Livingston Manor, died on Monday, July 3, 2006 after a 2 1/2 year battle with lung cancer. He was 57.
He was the son of Ralph and Myra Lange Fries. He was born on July 18, 1948 in Queens.
Donald was an avid Yankee fan and loved to split and cut wood. He loved cutting wood all day and watching the Yankees at night.
He was a member of Shandelee Hunting Club and the NRA.
He is survived by his wife, Lois A. Baker Fries, whom he has been married to since April 22, 1989 at home; two sons, Douglas Jeffrey Fries and his wife, Christina, of Huntington Beach, Ca. and Brian Keath Fries of Livingston Manor; one grandaughter, Mia Victoria Fries of Ca. and one brother, Ronald Fries, of Lemont, Ill., as well as his best friend, Frank Lisberg, of Glen Cove.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 14, at the Beaverkill Valley Firehouse in Beaverkill at 3 p.m.

Ira Berkowitz, 54
Ira William Berkowitz passed away Thursday, October 5, 2006 as a result of heart failure. He was 54.
The son of Abraham and Freda Berkowitz, he was born August 28, 1952 in Brooklyn.
A family statement said, “Ira will always be remembered for being an extremely devoted father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He may be gone, but never forgotten. Ira's values, unforgettable memories, and his ability to make people happy through his passion of cooking will remain with all of us forever. We will all miss him very much!”
Ira's survivors include his three beautiful children, Allen, Francine, and Sheryl all of whom he loved very much; his brother, Gary Magida and his wife, Terri Magida, and their son, Adam; his cousin, Michael Unterecht; as well as his countless number of long time friends.
Graveside funeral services took place on Monday, October 9, at at Hebrew Aide Society Cemetery Holmes Rd. Harris. Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiated.
Janet McWhorter

Janet Turner McWhorter of Greenwood, SC and formerly of Galilee, Pa. died Sunday, October 1, 2006 at home.. She was 69.
Janet was born June 1, 1937 in Honesdale, Pa., she was a daughter of the late John William and Amelia Kime Turner.
She was a graduate of Damascus High School, Damascus, Pa. and the Carbondale School of Cosmetology. She was the owner and operator of Janet’s New Image Hair Salon.
Mrs. McWhorter was member of West Side Baptist Church, she served on the SC Board of Cosmetology, and she bred and showed world champion Pomeranians.
Surviving are two sons, Jimmy Randakk “Randy” McWhorter and his wife, Amy of Charlotte, NC and Stephen Erhardt of Hollywood, Calif.; a daughter, Kathy “Chopper” Riggsbee of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother Stephen “Steve” McWhorter of Honea Path; a sister, Linda Gail-Coker of Liberty; grandchildren, Kayla and Katie McWhorter, both of Charlotte and Kalynn Ruth Engel and Amanda Riggsbee both of Cincinnati.
Funeral services were held in Greenwood, SC at Blyth Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Damascus, Pa.

John Schwab Jr., 62
John G. Schwab Jr. of Pine Bush, a lifelong area resident, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at the Benedictine Hospital in Kingston. He was 62 years of age.
The son of Mildred Myrtle Ryan Schwab and the late John George Schwab, he was born February 15, 1942, in Ellenville.
Mr. Schwab is survived by his mother of Pine Bush; three sisters, Joyce Ashey and her companion, Edward Schweizer, of Highland Lake, Nancy Bittner and her husband, Edward, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Dolly Mack and her companion, Thomas Kelly, of Woodbourne; a brother, Michael Schwab and his wife, Bonnie of Sundown; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his twin brother, James.
Services will be held at noon on Tuesday at the Loucks Funeral Home in Ellenville with the Rev. Jay Vogelaar officiating.
Burial will be made in the Fan-tinekill Cemetery in Ellenville.
Dorothy Baggatta
Nurse's Aide, 55
Dorothy A. "Dee" Baggatta of Middletown, a nurse's aide at St. Teresa's Nursing Home for 14 years and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at the Horton campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. She was 55 years of age.
She was the widow of Joseph Frank Baggatta.
In a family statement, it was said, "She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her."
Mrs. Baggatta is survived by her mother, Dorothy McDowell; four daughters, Tammy McMillen and her boyfriend, Dave Giggey, of Otisville, Patty Baggatta and her husband, Larry Swanson, of Bloomingburg, Joey Baggatta and her boyfriend, Artie Winters, of Bloomingburg, and Keesha Perales and her husband, Joseph, of Middletown; a sister and brother-in-law, Jenny and Harold Vanauken of Slate Hill; a sister-in-law, Patricia Baggatta; a brother-in-law, Tony Baggatta; nine grandchildren, Crystal, Joseph, Tiffany, Tori, Tara, Skyler, Blade, Jarred and Destiny; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Salmons and Marie Draper.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, 72 West Main St., Middletown.
Burial will be made in St. Joseph Cemetery in Middletown.
Seraphina Mudaro
Homemaker, 83
Seraphina "Sarah" Mudaro, a 20-year resident of Honesdale, Pa. and a homemaker, died Saturday, June 5, 2004. She was 83 years of age.
The daughter of the late Vito and Frances Puma, she was born October 11, 1920, in Brookyn.
An active and devoted area volunteer, Mrs. Mudaro served at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa., the Red Cross, the Cancer Society, the Chamber of Commerce and finally at the Wayne County Senior Citizen Center where she leaves behind a host of friends and acquaintances.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Jeffrey Clemente of Narrowsburg; a grandson, Matthew Clemente of Beach Lake, Pa.; and two sons and a daughter-in-law, Sam and Eva Mudaro of Las Vegas, Nev., and John Mudaro of St. Joseph's Center in Scranton, Pa.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Yetta Stein
Ret. Hotelkeeper, 84
Yetta Stein of Brooklyn, a former longtime resident of Monticello who operated the Delano Hotel with her parents for many years, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at the Beth Israel Hospital in Brooklyn. She was 84 years of age.
The daughter of the late Abe and Della Schecht, she was born March 24, 1920, in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Louis Stein.
Mrs Stein is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Madelyn and Alvin Schneider of Alpharetta, Ga., and Illene and Sam Zink of Marlton, N.J.; four grandchildren, Jay, Denise, Lindsay and Barri; six great-grandchildren, Jared, Alison, Jaclyn, Samantha, Sophie and Gabriella; and twelve nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were held Tuesday at the Landfield Avenue Synagogue Cemetery in Monticello.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.
