Vita Cascone of Woodbourne, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2006 at the Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 69.
The daughter of Carlo and Vita Nania Regina, she was born March 3, 1937 in Brooklyn.
Vita was a sports lover. An avid Mets fan, she played for many years on local soft ball teams and belonged to various bowling leagues. She was inducted into the Tri-State Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1984.
She is survived by her husband, John, at home; one son, John, Jr.; two brothers, Dominick Regina and his wife, Jane, Salvatore Regina, and his wife, Laraine; one sister, Maria Frangipane and her husband, Al; six nieces and nephews, Donna Siegal and her husband, Barry, Nick Frangipane and his fiance, Beth Klotz, Denise Frangipane and her fiance, Bill Palmer, Claudia Dietz and her husband, Gerard, Kristy Gonsher and her husband, Allan, and Maria Santoro; and three grandnieces and five grandnephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Woodbourne. Fr. John Lynch officiated.
Burial was made in Grahamsville Rural Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Colonial Memorial Funeral Home.
Jeremiah Brosnan
Ret. Stationary Eng., 88
Jeremiah Michael Brosnan of Warwick, formerly of Deerfield Beach, Fla., died Friday, August 11, 2006 at St. Anthony Community Hospital, Warwick. He was 88.
The son of the late Michael and Kathleen Kellegher Brosnan, he was born July 12, 1918 in Bawneskehy Castleisland County Kerry, Ireland.
He was retired from N.Y.C. Dept. of Social Service, as a Stationary Engineer at Camp LaGuardia, Chester.
He is survived by four sons, Michael Brosnan of New York, Jeremiah Brosnan and wife, Jean, of Wurtsboro, John Brosnan and wife, AnnMarie, of Pine Island, Daniel Brosnan and wife, Sue, of New Hampton; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Julia Sullivan McCann Brosnan; three brothers, John, Timothy and Martin Brosnan; and a sister, Nora Brosnan, all of Ireland.
A Funeral Mass was held Monday at St. Stanislaus Church, Pine Island.
Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery, Goshen.

Donald G. Ruhlin
Retired from NYTEL, 77
Donald G. Ruhlin of Neversink and Flagler Beach, Fla., a loving husband and father, passed away August 6, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was 77.
The son of the late George and Florence Ruhlin, he was born November 5, 1929 in Brooklyn.
Don retired in 1983 from the New York Telephone Co. in Monticello after 35 years of service, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. After retiring, he and his wife sold their Montgomery, N.Y. and Shohola, Pa. homes and enjoyed many years of trailering about the country, finally settling in Flagler Beach, Fla. and Neversink.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dolores Perry Ruhlin, at home; two daughters, Janet Masker and her companion Sam Hickman, and Donna Baylor and her companion, Charles Saul, all of Chandler, Texas; one son, James Ruhlin and his wife Nita of Neversink; five grandchildren, Chris Baylor and his wife Erika of Plano, Texas; Aaron Baylor and wife Diana of Allen, Texas; and Alyssa, Kathryn and JT Ruhlin of Neversink; one great-grandson, Zach Baylor of Plano, Texas; a sister, Florence Sullivan of Lewisville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation was made at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
A memorial service and visitation will be held at the Neversink Firehouse, Route 55, Neversink on Friday, August 10 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Miresmi Lumo, 85
Miresmi Karida Lumo of Monticello entered into heavenly rest Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris. She was 85.
The eldest daughter of the late Jesse Connor and Georgianna Ross Currence, she was born July 5, 1922 on her father’s birthday in York County, S.C. She was the widow of Clarence Westbrook Jr.
She attended York County public schools and Sullivan County Community College, and the Beauty Culture School in Charlotte, N.C. She enjoyed her craft by making dolls, quilts, sewing and cooking. Miresmi met and married Clarence Westbrook Jr. while working at a defense plant during World War II.
She retired from Rose Valley Senior Center and was called “Grandma” by many who knew her. Her children loved her for her stern attitude, good cooking and solid advice.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Gomez of Monticello; two sons, James Melvin Currence of Winston Salem, N.C. and Oscal Benari (aka Clarence Westbrook) of Monticello; four granddaughters, Annette, Mitzi, Shareen and Nicole; one grandson, Varako (aka Earl Gomez); three great-grandchildren: Jamel, Malik & Shanell; two sisters, Grace Jackson and her husband of Charlotte, N.C., and Tshara Lu Fasi D’Das; one brother-in-law, Depta K. D’Das of Brooklyn; and one brother: DeQuincy Currence of Winston Salem, N.C.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, Jesse Connor and Georgianna Ross Currence; one son, Lionel Westbrook; one daughter, Barbara Ann Westbrook; one sister, Klenladi Zinn; and one brother, William Connor “Bill” Currence.
A memorial service was held Thursday at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, Monticello.

Grace McNamara of Lake Huntington, formerly of Lyndhurst and Hoboken, NJ, died Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at her daughter’s home in Watchung, NJ.
She was born and raised in Hoboken and lived in Lyndhurstfor over 40 years before moving to Lake Huntington 17 years ago.
She worked as a legal secretary for Charles Corn, Attorney at Law, in Hoboken, NJ for over 15 years before retiring in 1982.
She was the beloved wife of the late James A. McNamara; loving mother of James P. and his longtime companion Ruth Vandenberg of Metuchen, NJ, Anne De Parto and her husband Michael of Watchung, NJ, and Lorraine Rodgers and her husband Joseph of Branchville, NJ; dear sister of C. Eugene Foyle of Chester, NJ, and the late Dorothy Buddenhagen and Rita Rasmussen; cherished grandmother of Christian and Amanda Grace De Parto and Linnet Rodgers; dear lifelong friend of Etta Craig. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, August 10 at the Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Heights, NJ.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Church, Watchung, NJ.
Burial will be made in the Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City, NJ.

James S. Luis
Retired Carpenter, 81
James S. Luis of Kauneonga Lake, a longtime area resident, passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 7, 2007. He was 81.
He was born in New York City on January 26, 1926 to the late Salvadore and Sarah Madurh Luis. He was the widower of Eleanor Anderson who passed away in February, 2006 after 35 years of marriage. During their union, they made substantial contributions to various charities including the ASPCA.
James was a retired union carpenter and Navy veteran of World War II. He was a longstanding member of the Sullivan County Conservation Club.
He is survived by four daughters; three sons; three sisters; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
In a family statement, it was said, “Our sincere thanks to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan for the services they provided. It allowed us to get through a very difficult time by allowing our father to have grace and dignity during his illness. Your efforts will not be forgotten.”
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 10 at Ramsay's Funeral Homes, Kauneonga Lake with the Rev. Roy Shaffer officiating.
Interment will be made in Rose Hill Cemetery, Putnam Valley.

Herman Weiss
Former resident, 97
Herman "Hy" Weiss of Delray Beach, Fla., formerly of Jeffersonville and Brooklyn, died peacefully at home on Saturday, August 4, 2007. He was 97 years of age on May 22, 2007. He remained healthy and active, living in his own home until his death.
Hy retired from the U.S. Postal Service and continued to work as a pari-mutuel clerk at Monticello Raceway and several racetracks in Florida until he was 75.
He was the widower of Hilda Taberoff of Jeffersonville. They were married for 62 years.
Hy was the beloved father of Gerald Weiss of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Diane Rathner of Gansevoort, and their respective spouses, Anita Weiss and Philip Rathner. He was the beloved grandfather of five: Andrew Weiss, Scott Weiss, Leslie Stempel, Todd Rathner and Leigh Rathner. Hy was fortunate to have eleven great-grandchildren: Allison Weiss, Joshua Weiss, Jacob Weiss, Eden Weiss, Benjamin Weiss, Joshua Stempel, Lea Stempel, Sydney Rathner, Henry Rathner, Isaac Rathner and 6-month-old Aaron Rathner.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at the Jeffersonville Jewish Cemetery, between Jeffersonville and Youngsville. Rabbi Marvin Goldman officiated.

Frances Lynch, 56
Frances M. Lynch, a lifelong resident of Middletown, died Sunday, August 5, 2007 at her home. She was 56.
Born in Middletown, on June 28, 1951, she was the daughter of Samuel and Isabelle Roosa DenDanto.
She worked in the accounts payable department at Lloyd’s Shopping Center, Middletown.
She is survived by her husband Fred J. "Skeeter" Lynch; her daughter Tonja Robbins and her husband Michael of Bloomingburg; two sons, Eric Lynch and his wife Jennifer of Potsdam, and Joshua Lynch and his wife Casey of Ft. Benning, Ga.; five sisters: Sandra Lynch of Middletown, Roseanne Mumbauer and her husband Leonard of Goshen, Judith Thorpe and her husband Frank of New Hampton, Tamara DenDanto and her companion Rick of Wurtsboro, Maryanne Lynch and her husband Patrick of Athens, Pa.; five brothers: Samuel DenDanto of Owego, Richard DenDanto and his wife Nancy of Bloomingburg, Michael DenDanto and his wife Sheri of Slate Hill, Franklin DenDanto and his wife Becky of New Hampton, and Carmen DenDanto and his wife Jennifer of Goshen; her godchild Lindsey Grebeldinger of Otisville; two grandsons, Matthew and Kyle Robbins of Bloomingburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday at Morse Funeral Home, Middletown. Deacon Richard Trapani officiated.
Burial of the cremains will be made in Ridgebury Cemetery, Ridgebury.
