George Lipkowitz passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2008 in Arlington, Virginia. He was 92.
Mr. Lipkowitz, the son of Molly and Nathan Lipkowitz, was born in New York City in 1916 and eventually moved to Sullivan County where he and his brother Leo ran a large dairy farm along Old Route 17 between Harris and Ferndale along with their wives, Phyllis and Elaine. When the construction of Route 17B severed the pasture lands from the barn, the farm was converted fully to Lipkowitz Bungalow Colony which was noted for its children-friendly ambiance and well-maintained grounds. During that time period George also worked as a waiter in the Night Owl Lounge of the Concord Hotel. George served in the Army during WWII and fought under the command of General Mark Clark in North Africa and Italy. A service for George will be held 10 am, May 28th in Arlington National Cemetery. George is survived by his wife, Phyllis who lives in Arlington and his three sons, Kenneth (Arlington), Robert (La Jolla, CA) and David (San Francisco).
Beryl F. Keesler
Waitress, 85
Beryl F. Keesler entered into heaven on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 in the presence of her family. She was 85.
She was born in Cadosia and graduated from Delaware Valley High School. She worked as a domestic and waitress in her adult life. She was also a member of the Abrahamsville United Methodist Church, Abrahamsville, Pa.
Survivors include her children, George Keesler of Liberty, Mary Soliwoda of Johnson City and Linda (David) Kresge of Apalachin; her grandchildren, Nicole Kresge, Jason Kresge; and great-grandchild, Marissa Kresge, all of Appalachin; also survived by her twin sister Beatrice Baston (Robert), Pensacola, Fla. and Mary Tyler (Edwin) of Youngsville; also many cousins, nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Eva Brigham, her husband of 44 years, Abe; three brothers, Ernest, Chester and Art Brigham; and her son-in-law, Donald Soliwoda.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Ideal Senior Living Center, especially Tulip and Daisy Courts, for the compassionate care given to our mother during her stay at the Center.
Friends may call May 17 at the Abrahamsville United Methodist Church, Abrahamsville, Pa. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Services will be at 1 p.m. at the Abrahamsville United Methodist Church. Pastor Jean Blackie will officiate.
Burial will be made in Hillcrest Cemetery in Galilee, Pa.

Ray Cali, 95

Ray Cali of Orlando, Fla., a former longtime resident of Liberty and a retired barber and travel agent, died Tuesday, March 28, 2005, in Orlando. He was 95 years of age.
The son of the late Joseph and Antonina Cali, he was born September 24, 1909, in New York City. He was the widower of Lilly Pletschette Cali who died in 1962.
During world War II, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He had met his wife in Belgium. He ran a restaurant in Liberty, owned Roxy Barber Shop and worked at the Sullivan County Travel Bureau.
Mr. Cali was a member of the Liberty Elks Club, the Clarence Hoyt Post No. 9217, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Raccoon Hunting Club and the Sullivan County Golf and Country Club, all in Liberty. He moved to Florida in 2001 to be with his famiy.
In a family statement, it was said, "He enjoyed the friendships he made in Liberty, at work and at play. To his golfing buddies, co-workers, customers and friends, we would like to thank all that knew him for enriching his life."
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Vince and Susan Cali of Orlando, Fla.; and two granddaughters, Christine Cali and Amanda Cali.
Serivces and burial were held Friday at the Glen Haven Memorial Park in Winter Park, Fla.
Gail L. Werlau
Homemaker, 51
Gail Louise Werlau of Hortonville, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 51 years of age.
The daughter of the late Victor S. and Jacqueline A. Neumann Werlau, she was born June 4, 1953, in Callicoon. A 1972 graduate of Delaware Valley Central School, she had worked for the Delaware Valley Job Corps Center and various grocery stores in the area. She was an avid stockcar fan, favoring Dale Earnhart.
She is survived by a son, Joshua Werlau, at home; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John Kenneth and Cathy Werlau and Victor Richard and Darlene Werlau; and special friends, William Eisenbach and Michael and Tonya Dirie.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Hortonville Presbyterian Church.

Charles Sosnowski

Charles Sosnowski of Woodbourne, a retired New York State Corrections Officer at the Woodbourne Correctional Facility and a 57-year area resident, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at the Englewood Medical Center in Englewood, N.J. He was 85 years of age.
The son of the late Stephen and Josephine Sadowska Sosnowski, he was born January 1, 1920, in Brooklyn.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served on the USS O'Brien (DD 215) and the USS Bennett (DD 473).
In a family statement, it was said, "Charles was a loving and devoted husband and the light and love of the lives of his family."
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Irene Bienkowski Sosnowski, at home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Vera Sosnowski of Oneonta and Robert and Stephanie Sosnowski of Monroe; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and George Dean of Neversink and Nancy and Frank Benedek of Loch Sheldrake; two sisters, Jane Koski and her longtime companion, William Bruni of Ft. Lee, N.J., and Helen Conrad and her husband, Pete, of Woodbourne; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and LaVonne Sosnowski of Visalia, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was predeceased by two brothers, Felix and Steven Sosnowski.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, on Tuesday froml 4 to 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m on Wednesday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Route 42, Woodbourne, with the Rev. John Lynch officiating.
Burial will be made in the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery.
Roberta B. Lewis
Homemaker, 88
Roberta B. Lewis of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, a homemaker and a former longtime resident of Callicoon, died Saturday, March 26, 2005 in Boothbay Harbor. She was 88 years of age.
The daughter of the late Robert and Marguerite Guthrie, she was born March 14, 1917, in Port Jervis. She was the widow of Kenneth C. Lewis who died March 25, 1992.
Mrs. Lewis was a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the H. Russell Kenyon Post No. 5808, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Callicoon and a member of the AARP.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert K. and Marilyn Lewis of Harpursville; two daughters, Carolyn B. Moore and her husband, Martin, of Southport, Maine, and Jan M. Lewis of Liberty; a sister, Alice Millspaugh of Honeoye; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Linda L. Hillriegel.
Funeral services and burial at the Rural Valley Cemetery in Cuddebackville were private.

Esther S. Odell
Ret. of Amphenol, 63
Esther S. Odell of Downsville, recently retired from Amphenol Corp. of Sidney and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, March 27, 2005 at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. She was 63 years of age.
The daughter of the late Roderick W. and Bernice Sheable Pudney, she was born April 27, 1941, in Walton.
She was previously employed by Richard Thomson, Attorney, and the Delaware Telephone Co.
In a family statement, it was said, "She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her favorite times were spending time with her husband at Black Lake; loving and enjoying children and grandchildren and shopping at Christmas and Easter for them; gardening; and being among friends. She passed away after a brave battle against cancer."
Mrs. Odell is survived by her husband of 11 years, Ronald W. Odell, at home; two brothers, Barry Pudney of Walton and Richard Elmore and his wife, Shirley, of Ballston Spa; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Joseph O'Boyle of Hancock and Judith and Andy Fischer of Hobart; four step-children, Philip Odell and his wife, Debbie, of Downsville, Sherry Sanford of Norwich, David Odell of Downsville and Randy Odell and his wife, Brandy, of Downsville; nine grandchildren, Matt and his wife, Chrystal, Nickie, Sean, Karl, Janice, Seth, Lacy, Heather and Chris; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Skyler; and several nieces and nephews
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Harris Funeral Home in Roscoe with Lucille Freyer officiating.
Burial was made in the Paige Cemetery in Downsville.

William Jennings, 60
Bard-Parker Employee
William T. Jennings of Horton, a former employee of Bard-Parker in Hancock and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at his home. He was 60 years of age.
The son of Evelyn Wayman Jennings and the late Blake Jennings, he was born August 21, 1944, in the Town of Colchester.
Mr. Jennings was a former member of the Cooks Falls-Horton Fire Company. He was an avid hunter.
He is survived by his mother of Horton; his wife, Laura Jennings of Roscoe; three daughters, Lisa Lorah and her husband, Fred, of Williamson, Crystal Jennings of Utica and Hope Jennings of Roscoe; a son, Tom Jennings of Dundee; a sister and brother-in-law, Ilene and John Baden of Callicoon; a brother, Wayne Jennings of Tennessee; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Blake Jennings Jr.
Services were held Wednesday at the Harris Funeral Home in Roscoe with Lucille Freyer officiating.
Burial was made in the Riverview Cemetery in Roscoe.

Denise Hilderbrandt of Kiamesha Lake, a 20-year area resident, died Friday, March 18, 2005, in Rock Hill. She was 35 years of age.
The daughter of Robert and Joanne Wolters Hilderbrandt, she was born March 26, 1969, in New York City.
She is survived by her mother of Queens; her father of Panama; two daughters, Nicole Hilderbrandt of Swan Lake and Gabriella Givlini of Liberty; two brothers, John H. Hilderbrandt and Steven Hilderbrandt, both of Queens; two sisters, Robin VanAken of Hicksville and Cheryl Martinkat of Queens; and three nieces.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 3534 State Route 55, Kauneonga Lake, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Friday with the Rev. David Coon officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
