Ret. Teacher, 93
Louise Hawkins Brunning of Bloomingburg, a retired teacher at Minisink Valley Elementary School, and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, May 15, 2005. She was 93 years of age.
The daughter of the late Albert T. and Marie Schmid Hawkins, she was born December 13, 1911, in Mountaindale. She was the widow of Bennie Augustus Brunning.
Mrs. Brunning graduated from the Middletown High School in 1930 and from New Paltz College in 1933.
She was a former treasurer of the Middletown Area Retired Teachers Association and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was also a member of the Denton Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was a past secretary-treasurer of the United Presbyterian Women. Mrs. Brunning had served as a secretary of the Bloomingburg Grange #1197, and the Orange-Sullivan Pomona Grange #8, and was a member and past secretary, for more than 20 years, of the Schwanga Mountain Auxiliary 4947, VFW, Bloomingburg. She was also an active member of the Senior Citizens Association of Slate Hill, called The Pacers.
In a family statement, it was said, “Her favorite saying was, ‘There are no bad children, they’re just tired.’”
She is survived by two daughters, Beverly L. Martin and her husband, Edward of Bloomingburg and Belinda L. Edic and her husband, Robert, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two sons, Norman B. Brunning of Middletown and Bernard A. Brunning Sr. and his wife, Phyllis of New Hampton; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Reid; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Brian Richard, seven brothers, James M. Hawkins, Albert N. Hawkins, Joseph F. Hawkins, Forrest J. Hawkins, William S. Hawkins, Robert Elroy Hawkins and Andrew V. Hawkins, and two sisters, Eva C. Hawkins and Emma I. DuVall.
Services were held Wednesday at the Cornelius, Dodd and Connell Funeral Home in Middletown with the Rev. Peter Johnson officiating.
Interment was made n the Wall-kill Cemetery in Phillipsburg.

Alexander Sheiner, 82
Ret. Dining Rm. Captain
Alexander Sheiner, a longtime resident of South Fallsburg and a retired captain of the Raleigh Hotel Dining Room for more than 50 years, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the Elante at Goshen after a long illness. He was 82 years of age.
The son of the late Lena and Hyman Sheiner, he was born May 13, 1923, in Brooklyn.
In a family statement, it was said, “Al was a good and decent man who cared for all people.”
He is survived by two sons, Keith Sheiner of Thompsonville and Robert Sheiner and his wife, Alicia, of Henderson, Nev.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Robert Leventoff of South Fallsburg; and eight grandchildren, Mikal Sheiner, Jesse Sheiner, Matthew Sheiner, Christina Sheiner, Alex Sheiner, Deacon Sheiner, Carly Leventoff and Brittany Leventoff. He was predeceased by a son, Brad Sheiner, who died in 1995.
Services were held Thursday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.
Burial was made in the Workman Circle #281 Cemetery in Glen Wild.

Dorothy Platt
Ret. Postal Clerk, 67
Dorothy Platt, a lifelong resident of Wurtsboro and a retired postal clerk for the Wurtsboro Post Office, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at the Horton campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. She was 67 years of age.
The daughter of the late Abraham and Flora Sarine, she was born September 20, 1927, in Wurtsboro.
She is survived by her husband, Riley “Bud” Platt, at home; two daughters, Charlene Young and her husband, Michael, of Wurtsboro, and Stephanie Platt of Ellenville; two sons, Bruce Platt and his wife, Angela, of Yankee Lake, and Riley “Bud’ Platt IV of Phillipsport; four sisters, Flora Hummel of Middleburg, Arlene Platt of Wurtsboro, Pauline Platt of Cornwall and Charlotte Marcantonio of Parsippany, N.J.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Terwilliger and Bessie Sisco, and three brothers, Arthur “Pete” Sarine, Nelson Sarine and David Sarine.
Graveside services and burial were held Wednesday at the Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro.

Ann Blake (nee Nutile) Viglione, resident of Ferndale for 35 years, formerly of Fair Lawn, N.J., died Saturday, June 30, 2007. She was 81.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a parishioner of St. Anne R.C. Church, as well as a member and former president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cosmos Club, both located in Fair Lawn.
Ann owned and operated Skater's World Roller Rink in Ferndale for 35 years.
She was the former wife of the late Peter Viglione; loving and devoted mother of Peter Viglione and his wife, Jane, Shirley Iodice and her husband, Vince, Karen Beck and her husband, Vince and Janice Moscatelli and her husband, Mike; cherished grandmother of Lynette, Daniel, Lisa, Lindsay, Alicia, Peter, Brian and Kate; adored great-grandmother of Olivia and Joey; dear sister of Sam Nutile, Rose Gulino, Emma Schamble and Harriet Garofano.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at Vander Plaat Colonial Home, Inc., 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, N.J.
Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Paterson, N.J.
Odessa Williams

Odessa Williams of Woodridge passed away Monday, June 25, 2007 peacefully at home. She was 54.
She was the daughter of Margaret and John Corum. She was born on September 27, 1952 in Richmond, Va.
A family statement reads, "She was always a loving and caring person who appreciated spending time with her friends and family, she will be well missed."
Survivors include her only son, Aaron W. Roberts, Sr. and his wife, Shirley; one grandson, Aaron W. Roberts, Jr. and four stepchildren, Michael, Leonard Sprague, Shalaya Eve Parker, and Sarah Roberts; two brothers, Henry Robins and John Corum and his wife, Marry; one sister-in-law, Lannie Williams; and many friends.
Services were held at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Lee Andrews officiated.
Arrangements were under the direction of Colonial Memorial Funeral Home.
Jason E. Kraycer

Jason E. Kraycer, a 12-year resident of Albany, formerly of Liberty, died Friday, June 29, 2007 at the Albany Medical Center, Albany. He was 30.
The son of Edward J. and Susan M. Neumann Kraycer, he was born November 9, 1976 in Liberty.
Jason had been an altar boy and communicant of St. Peter's R.C. Church in Liberty; he was a graduate of Liberty High School, SUNY at Albany, and earned his Master's degree from the Albany Business School. He was a self-employed I.T. in the computer business; he enjoyed running in marathons, hiking, skiing, and he was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his parents, Edward and Susan Kraycer of Liberty; two sisters, Tara Clark and her husband, Stephen of Youngsville, and Emily Kraycer of East Greenbush; his companion, Beckie Taub of Albany; his maternal grandfather, George Neumann of Lancaster, Mass.; his aunts and uncles, Michael and Gaile Kraycer of Liberty, William and Bernice Danzer of Liberty, Joseph Kraycer of Port Jervis, Judith and Craigan Gray of Ashland, Ky., and Lawrence and Nancy Neumann of Lancaster, Mass; one niece, Britany Clark; one nephew, Nicholas Clark; and several cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 3, at 11:45 a.m. in St. Peter's R.C. Church, 264 N. Main St., Liberty with Msgr. Edward Straub officiating.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Cold Spring Rd., Liberty.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Otto R. Hoos
Ret. businessman, 91
Otto R. Hoos of Livingston Manor passed away on June 29, 2007 in Libertyville Manor Nursing Home in Libertyville, Il. He was 91.
He was the son of Fred and Elly Witt Hoos. He was born on August 27, 1915 in Liberty, N.Y.
He was a well-known business, civic and educational leader. Mr. Hoos owned and operated United Cigar Store from 1940 until his retirement in 1978. The store, which was located on Main Street of Livingston Manor, sold a variety of products including tobacco, candy, newspapers, non-prescription drugs, sporting goods, as well as provided a lunch counter that was a popular community gathering place.
He was a charter member and past president of the Livingston Manor Rotary Club. He was a member of the Hoos Truck Co. Fire Department and served as president and fire chief. He served on the Livingston Manor School Board for 25 years and was a charter member of the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). He was a member and Past Master of the Livingston Manor Masonic Lodge. Mr. Hoos was a past elder of the Livingston Manor Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Shandelee Hunting Club.
He is survived by his son, John Hoos, and his wife Bonnie; along with his two granddaughters, Tara McDonnell and her husband Mike and Adrienne Johnson and her husband Austin, of Libertyville; five great grandchildren, Jack, William and Owen McDonnell and Arley and Parker Johnson; one brother, Ed Hoos, of Livingston Manor; and three step-sons, Jim, Ken and Gary.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Winifred in 1975, and his second wife, Thelma, in 1995, along with his brothers, Fred and Paul and his sisters, Henrietta and Charlotte.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor. Firematic Service will be held at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Masonic Service. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 6, at 11 a.m. at the Livingston Manor Presbyterian Church. Rev. Nancy Asbury will officiate. Interment will follow in Orchard Street Cemetery.

Jeffersonville Stalwart
Russell E. Duttweiler of Jeffersonville, died on Monday, July 2, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris.
Duttweiler was active in many community and civic organizations including service as Mayor and Village Trustee of the Village of Jeffersonville, an elder in the Presbyterian Church and owner of Duttweiler Trucking & Busing.
