Clifford M. Bickham Sr.
Ret. Town of Thompson Emp., 72

Clifford M. Bickham, Sr., a retired employee for the Town of Thompson, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at his home in Monticello surrounded by his family. He was 72.
The son of the late Willie Bickham and Myrtle Finn Bickham, he was born July 30, 1934 in Covington, La.
Cliff was a Deacon with the Bethlehem Temple Church of Monticello and was also a member of the Monticello Fire Dept., the Monticello Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Beagle Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Walker Bickham at home; ten sons; two daughters; two brothers; three sisters; 35 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His funeral service was held on Monday, July 2 at noon at the Bethlehem Temple Church in Monticello. The Rev. Mervin Armstead officiated.
Burial followed at the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
Memorial contributions can be made to Bethlehem Temple Missionary Dept.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.

Cathrine Cudney Baxter
Ret. Therapist, 92

Cathrine Cudney Baxter of Summitville, a retired Therapist Aide for the Middletown Psychiatric Center, and lifelong are resident, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 25, 2007 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home, Roscoe. She was 92.
Prior to residing in the Roscoe Nursing Home, she had lived in the Southwinds Retirement Home in Middletown.
The daughter of the late Fletcher and Myrtle Brink Allen, she was born November 27, 1914 in Summitville.
Cathrine was a very active member of the Summitville (now Mamakating) Methodist Church and enjoyed the weekly Bible study group, activities, events and working on the history of the church. She loved flowers and strawberries. She will always be in our hearts and missed by her friends and neighbors who loved and knew her.
She loved the First Thursday Group Luncheons with her friends. She was a member of A.A.R.P. of Grahamsville, a member of the Bloomingburg Grange #1117, a member of the Women's Society until the organization disbanded, and a member of the Ellenville Senior Citizens, where she participated in several of the trips, touring the United States and Canada with her husband, Bert.
She was predeceased by her first husband, George Cudney in 1958, and her second husband, Herbert Baxter in October, 1995.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Mamakating Methodist Church at a later date. The Rev. Randy Yerkes will officiate.
Private burial will be made in the Poplar Grove Cemetery, Phillipsport.
Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Mamakating Methodist Church, PO Box 138, Summitville, NY 12781.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Harris Funeral Home, Roscoe.

Joanne Clouse
Secretary, 64

Joanne Clouse of Highland Lake, a Secretary for the Clarkstown Central School District, New City and longtime resident of the area, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Nyack Hospital in Nyack. She was 64.
The daughter of the late Clifford Wachter and Lillian Meyer Wachter, who survives, she was born May 31, 1943 in Brooklyn.
She was a member of St. Anthony's R.C. Church in Yulan.
A family statement reads, "Joanne was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She gave unselfishly of herself to all. She was loved by all and was so very special. She touched so many lives and will truly be missed. She made the world a better place and made it different. May her smile and passion live within her family and friends."
Survivors include her husband, Herman G. Clouse, at home; two sons, Erik Clouse and his wife, Beth of New City and Jason Clouse and his wife, Rachel of Denver, Colo.; her mother, Lillian Meyer Wachter of Barryville; her sister, Carole Rudolph and husband, Joseph of Barryville; her grandson, Donovan Clouse; her mother-in-law, Agnes Clouse of Highland Lake; three nieces, Laura Stuba and husband, John of Connecticut, Regina Lynett and husband, James of New York and Lenora Rudolph and her fiance.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2007 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony's R.C. Church, Yulan with the Rev. Anthony Moore officiating.
A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home the evening of Friday, July 13.
Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Eldred.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Charles W. Lewis Jr.
Carpenter, 64

Charles W. Lewis, Jr., a carpenter of Livingston Manor, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 30, 2007. He was 64.
The son of Wayne and Hilda Marshall Boyles, Sr., he was born June 30, 1943 in Walton.
Charles was a fine carpenter and worked for Allison and Devore general contractors of Hurleyville. He enjoyed hunting, but most of all, his joy was being around his family.
Charles also served his country in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his loving family who includes his mother, Hilda Boyles of Franklin; four daughters, Stacey Stephenson and her husband, Craig of Livingston Manor, Ann Cassidy and her husband, Steve of Florida, Teri Lewis and her companion, Patrick Severing of Livingston Manor and Cathy Sanders and her husband, Glenn of Livingston Manor; four grandchildren, Scott and Sean Klinegardner of Livingston Manor, Carly Cassidy of Florida, and Samantha Severing of Livingston Manor; his wife, Anna Lewis of Livingston Manor; four brothers, George Lewis of Nevada, Robert and his wife, Jane of Mt. Vision, Wayne Boyles, Jr. of Franklin, and Leon Boyles of Franklin; three sisters, Rose Lewis of Exter, Donna and her husband, George Edwards of Franklin, Kathy and her husband, Michael Gracey of Hamden; many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
His father predeceased him.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl St., Liv. Manor.
Cremation and interment of his ashes will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
Donations may be made in Charlie's name to a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home.

Thomas David Hust
Ret. Judge, 69

Thomas "Tom" David Hust of Monticello entered eternal rest on June 28, 2007, after a strenuous battle with cancer. He was 69.
The son of the late Ernest and Frances (Hoffmann) Hust, he was born in Callicoon on Aug. 17, 1937.
Tom retired after 27 years as a New York State Racing and Wagering Judge at Monticello Raceway. He loved his family and friends and will be dearly missed. Always a people person, he tended bar for many years in and around Monticello, but his passion was golf. When not on the course, he enjoyed the camaraderie of the game at the course "19th hole". He was also a member of the Monticello B.P.O.E. Elk's Lodge #1544, where he served as Exalted Ruler from 1970 to 1971.
He is survived by two daughters, Karen Michel of Grahamsville and Kathy Moore and her husband, Walter of Liberty; and their mother, Norine Michel; three grandsons, Derek and Brenden Moore of Grahamsville and Cameron Moore of Liberty; three sisters, Phyllis Hulse of Florida, Joe Anne Baker of Youngsville and Mary (Hust) Jensen of Binghamton; two brothers, Richard Hust of California and Fritz Hust of Binghamton; a stepsister, Rita Eileen Ohman of Equinunk, Pa., and a stepbrother, Donald (Fred) Hoffmann of Hankins; along with many, many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Hust and Patrick Hoffmann; two stepbrothers, Richard and Edwin Hoffmann; his stepfather, Charles Hoffmann, and stepmother, Sophie Hust.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello.
Burial with military honors will follow at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave., NY, NY 10021, the American Cancer Society, 419 E. Main St., Suite 307B, Middletown, NY 10940, or the American Heart Assoc., PO Box 828, Monticello, NY 12701.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home.

Ruth Marie Klinger
Homemaker, 89

Ruth Marie Klinger of Roscoe, a homemaker and lifelong area resident, died Thursday, June 28, 2007 in the Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris. She was 89.
The daughter of the late Clay and Lillian Friehaut Amback, she was born August 6, 1917 in Roscoe.
Ruth had worked for Stanley Smith in the ten-pin factory in Roscoe, she had been an aide at the Jeffersonville Adult Home and she had worked as a mail transporter for the U.S. Postal Service.
Survivors include two daughters, Frances Wegman and her husband, Harold of Walton and Anna Klinger and Joanne Rascoe of Roscoe; two sons, Harold Klinger and his companion, Debbie Parsons of Roscoe and Eric Klinger and his friend Barbara Jaekel of Roscoe; four grandchildren, Penny, Ginger, Wayne, and Justin; two great-grandchildren, Brittany and Stephanie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold G. Klinger in 1977; and two sisters, Clara Mae Klinger and Margaret Hammer.
Funeral services were Monday, July 2 in the Harris Funeral Home in Roscoe.
Burial was made in the Bon Air Cemetery, Roscoe.
Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Roscoe-Rockland Vol. Ambulance Corp., Roscoe, NY 12776 or a charity of one's choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Harris Funeral Home.

Madeline A. O’Connor
Ret. Salesperson, 63

Madeline Agnes O’Connor (“Maddy”) of Monticello, a retired salesperson for Combined Life Insurance Co. and formerly of Smallwood, died Monday, July 2, 2007 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 63.
The daughter of the late Raymond Messina and Agnes Deegan Messina, she was born January 28, 1944 in the Bronx.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Monticello.
Survivors include her son, Thomas O’Connor and his wife, Dina of Monticello; her daughter, Catherine Perez and her husband, Charles of Middletown; a nephew, Raymond Messina and his wife, Christina of Hartsdale; three nieces; a brother, Raymond Messina of New Orleans, La.; and six grandchildren, Blaise Perez, Thomas O’Connor, Jami Welch, Taylor Welch-O’Connor, Tau Perez and Athena Perez-Keith.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 5 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello. Fr. John Tran will officiate.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Upstate New York Chapter, 6 Automation Lane, Albany, NY 12205.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.
