Ellis Ward Burlingame
Ret. Auctioneer, 76

Ellis Ward Burlingame of Callicoon, a retired lieutenant for the New York State Department of Corrections at the Sullivan Correctional Facility and a retired auctioneer, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 76 years of age.
The son of the late Harry Ellis and Mildred Latimer Burlingame, he was born August 19, 1928, in Acidalia.
Mr. Burlingame was a member of the Jeffersonville Masonic Lodge #521 and the Shorthorn Association. He owned the only herd of purebred Shorthorns in Sullivan County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a graduate of Ulster Community College.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Anna Iken Burlingame, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Ward Ellis and Julie Frances Huggins Burlingame; a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Norman “Butch” Reddish; a dear friend who was like a son, Edward Loughrey and his wife, Debra; a sister, Ruth Kane of Rochester; five grandchildren, Brittany Ann Reddish, Blain Ward Reddish, Matthew Ward Burlingame, James Ellis Burlingame and Dolores Dorothea Cunnningham; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Gladys Mastrogiovani and a brother, Perry Burlingame.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Cremation will be held at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

Elenor L. Mall
Ret. Bookkeeper, 82

Elenor L. Mall of Jeffersonville, a retired bookkeeper for Warren Mall Plumbing, Heating and Hardware in Jeffersonville, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at her home. She was 82 years of age.
The daughter of the late Harry and Lillian Schaefer Layman, she was born July 25, 1922, in the Beechwoods. She was the widow of Warren Mall.
Mrs. Mall was a member of the Jeffersonville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the church, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Emmett Turner Post #276, American Legion, and served many years on the Board of Education of the Jeff-Youngsville Central School.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Michael Forsblom of Hankins; a sister, Helen Schaefer of Jeffersonville; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three children, Wayne Warren Mall, Patricia Kandl and Aline Palmer, and a sister, Marion Manzolillo.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday at the Jeffersonville Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Hagerty officiating.
Burial will be made in the Jeffersonville Methodist Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jeffersonville Methodist Church, P.O. Box, Jeffersonville, N.Y. 12748.

Claire M. Smith
Homemaker, 92

Claire M. Smith of Monticello, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 92 years of age.
The daughter of the late William and Frances Edwards Eagan, she was born November 11, 1912, in Port Jervis.
In a family statement, it was said, “Claire was a wonderful mother and ‘Nanny’ who will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends.”
She is survived by three daughters, Bernice Wagner of Sackett Lake, Shirley Toomey of Forestburgh and Linda Smith of Liberty; 10 grandchildren, Karla, Lynn, Art, Mike, Matt, Anne, Jackie, Pattie, Brian and Brendan; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Leslie Smith and Bernard Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello.
Burial will be made in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Monticello Fire Department Building Fund, 8-10 Pleasant St., Monticello, N.Y. 12701 or to the Darren M. Foss Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 246, Ferndale, N.Y. 12734.

Eleanor Bucar, 85
Retired Bank Manager

Eleanor Bucar, a 23-year resident of the area, died October 16, 2006 at home. She was 85.
The daughter of Amos Benton and Marjorie Cummings Murphy, she was born December 16, 1920 in Akron, Ohio. She was the widow of Frank Bucar.
Eleanor was a retired Bank Manager. She was a member of the Town of Callicoon Democratic Committee; Jeffersonville Library; Senior Legislative Action Committee; Grover Hermann Division Catskill Regional Medical Center Auxilliary, and Jeffersonville Senior Citizens.
In a family statement, it was said, “She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.”
Survivors include her children, James Bucar of Hamden, Conn., Susan McGowan of Brisbane, Australia, and Elizabeth Bucar of Wurtsboro; her grandchildren, Jason Hammel, Danielle Bucar, Alexandra Gildart, Nathan Bucar, Daniel Patton, Ben McGowan, Sondra Patton, Brady Hyde, and Zachary Stuart-Pontier; great-grandchildren, Karlan Gildart and Ryan Gildart; sister-in-law, Helen Plunk; nine nieces and nephews; and many grandnieces and nephews.
Services were held Thursday, October 19 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville.

William McUmber
Ret. Truck Driver, 87

William J. McUmber of Livingston Manor, a retired truck driver for Mike Wilcox Trucking and a lifelong area resident died Sunday, October 15, 2006 at his home. He was 87 years of age.
The son of the late Ned and Clara McUmber, he was born February 24, 1919 in Horton.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, attending auctions and watching wrestling.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Jacobs and her husband, Earl, of Roscoe and Gloria Neer and her husband, Roger, of Roscoe; his loving companion of forty years, Shirley Steele, at home; her children, Raymond Steele of Jessup, Pa.; Duane Steele and his wife, Janet, of Hillsville, Va.; Henry Steele and his wife, Kathy, of Fremont Center; Darren Steele and his wife, Denise, and Randy Steele and his wife, Pat, all of Cooks Falls; and Debbie Kinne and her husband, George, of Roscoe; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary McUmber, and a daughter, Wilma McUmber Smith.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Harris Funeral Home in Roscoe. The Rev. Robert W. Hoag officiated.
Burial was made in the Riverview Cemetery in Hancock.

Lotte Nedwetzky
Homemaker, 80

Lotte Nedwetzky, a 50-year resident of the area, died unexpectedly Monday, October 16, 2006 at Orange Regional Medical Center’s Horton Campus in Middletown. She was 80 years of age.
The daughter of Karl and Wilamena Graf Rosomm, she was born January 18, 1926 in Germany. She married Andreas Nedwetzky on August 20, 1948 in Gross Ippner, Germany.
In addition to her husband at home, Lotte is survived by one son, Guenther and his wife, Beth, of Cornwall-on-Hudson; four daughters, Wally Hennessy and her husband, Robert, of Washingtonville, Anita Nedwetzky of Perth, Australia; Karin Broas of Middletown, and Doris Chelak of Montgomery; one brother, Erwin Rosomm and his wife, Lisa, of Germany; one sister, Trudy Rostock of Germany; seven grandchildren, Daniel Hennessy, Danielle Rao, Nicole Polychronopolus, Erick Nedwetzky, Heidi Leahy, David and Sarah Weychan; one great-granddaughter, Maya Rao; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Horst Nedwetzky; and two sisters, Anna Eichler and Crystal Spillert.
A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, October 20 at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown.
Burial will follow in the family plot in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery, Bloomingburg.

Rae’Quawn Hunter
SDTC Student, 10

Rae’Quawn Davell Hunter left us suddenly on October 13, 2006. He was 10 years of age.
The son of Shameeka Lewis and Samuel Hunter, he was born February 4, 1996 in Harris. Rae’Quawn was truly a survivor.
Rae’Quawn attended the Center For Discovery school. He made a lasting impression on everyone’s life, especially his little sister, Kiki. He was special to all of us and will never be forgotten. He leaves to cherish his memories his parents, Shameeka Lewis and Samuel Hunter; two sisters, Kiara Stewart and Dezha Hunter, both of Albany; two uncles, Deshawn and Spencer Lewis, both of Monticello; maternal grandmother, Barbara Lewis of Monticello; maternal great-grandparents Carolyn and Artie Bolden of Monticello; great-great grandmother, Carrie Johnson of Milliageville, Ga.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, October 21 at the First Baptist Church, Liberty St., Monticello. The Rev. James Matthews will officiate.
Burial will follow in Rock Ridge Cemetery, in Monticello.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.

Jacqueline Cowen
Former Resident, 47

Jacqueline Cowen (neé LeBrun) of St. Petersburg, Fla. died Saturday, October 14, 2006 at home of natural causes. She was 47 years of age.
She was born and raised in Bellport and Patchogue. She graduated from SUNY-Oneonta where she met and married her husband Joseph Cowen 24 years ago. They moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. in 1982.
She is survived by her husband, at home; her three beloved children: Jessica at USF, and Julie and Jason at home; her father, Thomas LeBrun; two sisters, Suzanne and Jennifer, and their husbands and children; a brother, Richard, and his wife and children, all of whom reside in the Bellport/Patchogue area; a brother-in-law, Marshall III; father-in-law, Marshall II, and his wife, Priscilla “Pat” of Jeffersonville and St. Petersburg; and a beloved sister-in-law, Laurie Cowen Brickner, and her husband, Peter, of St. Petersburg and Jeffersonville; and a sister-in-law, Linda Cowen Burke, of Pensacola, Fla.
In a family statement, it was said, “Jackie loved all children. She taught pre-school; Sunday school at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in South St. Petersburg, and was a reading teacher at Bay Point Elementary School. Her devotion to her children’s activities and achievements were her pride and joy.” Services were entrusted to www.AndersonMcQueen.com.

Mary R. Miller, 87
Ret. Businesswoman

Mary R. Miller of Damascus, Pa., the former owner of Miller’s Store in Callicoon and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at the Brighton at Julia Ribaudo Care Center in Lake Ariel, Pa. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late Howard and Dollie Conklin Marks, she was born December 8, 1917, in Callicoon. She was the widow of Nelson Miller.
Mrs. Miller was a member of the Callicoon United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the church. She was a hospital volunteer at the Grover Hermann Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Callicoon and a former member of the Delaware Valley Senior Ctiizens.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Karen Miller of Beach Lake, Pa., and Roy and Peggy Miller of Tyler Hill, Pa.; six grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Kris Sirani, Jesse Miller, Jody Miller, Julie Miller, Kristen and her husband, Daryl Emmett, and Kelly Miller; and two great-grandchildren, Douglas Joseph Sirani and Sabrina Sirani.
Friends may call on Sunday at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Peg Van Siclen officiating.
Burial will be made in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Galilee, Pa.
