Helen Speckhardt of South Fallsburg, a retired owner of Speckhardt Bungalow Colony which she ran after the death of her husband until 1994, died Monday, December 12, 2005, at her home. She was 93 years of age.
The daughter of the late Samuel and Anastasia Monchinuk Loiko, she was born February 28, 1912, in Russia. She was the widow of Henry C. Speckhardt.
She moved from Russia to Sullivan County when a young girl and met and married her husband on April 4, 1940.
Mrs. Speckhardt is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Loretta Speckhardt of South Fallsburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Eddie Wallace of Highland; four grandchildren, Henry John, Michael, Laurelee and Henry; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda and Henry III.
Friends may call at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Mother Joan Laliberté officiating.
Interment will be made in the Luna Organization Cemetery in Rock Hill.

Anita M. Evans, of Highland Mills, a 28 year resident of the area, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown. She was 84.
The daughter of the late Hans Doppler and Helen Meyer Doppler, she was born May 16, 1922 in Germany. She was the widow of Robert B. Evans, Sr.
Anita was a retired Secretary for Apple Bank for Savings, New York. She was a member of the Woodbury Golden Agers, Highland Mills.
Survivors include her sons, John L. Evans and wife, Janet of Bloomingburg, Brinley L. Evans and wife, Elizabeth of Cornwall; daughter, Louise Evans of Highland Mills; sisters, Marion Bruno of Queens; Dorothy Mickler and Eleanor Rider, both of Red Hook; thirteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Robert B. Evans, Jr.; and a brother, Herman Doppler.
Funeral services were held Wednesday atSt. John's Episcopal Church, Cornwall. The Rev. Thomas E. C. Margrave officiated.
Burial was made in Rose Hills Memorial Park, Putnam Valley.

William E. Gunther IV

William "Billy" E. Gunther IV of Eldred died Monday, January 8, 2007 at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, N.J. He was 25.
The son of William E. Campbell III and Diane C. Campbell Gunther, he was born Sept. 24, 1981 in Goshen.
Billy was a Managing Business Consultant for ADP Payroll Service in Florham Park, N.J. Billy was a 1999 Graduate of the Eldred Central School District. He was a member of the Eldred Cross Country Team, Indoor and Outdoor Track, ran the Yulan Triathlon and many 5K races, and was a member of the St. Jacobi Youth Group in Shohola, Pa.
A family statement reads, "We would like to welcome relatives and friends as we say ‘thank you’ to our ‘Little Billy.’ We watched him grow into a young man whose greatest pleasure in life came from the little things…a warm embrace, spending precious time with friends and family, always bringing a smile to everyone. A man of extraordinary kindness, a man of love, peace and a heart of gold! We are truly blessed to have witnessed such immeasurable loyalty and moral character. May God embrace our ‘Little Billy.’ Thank you so much Billy for all the joy you've given us."
Surviving are his parents, of Eldred; his fiancée, Cathy Mosher of Otisville; paternal grandmother, Vivian Gunther of West Milford, N.J.; maternal grandmother, Nicole Campbell and fiancé, George Fuller of Port Jervis; three brothers, Brian Gunther, John Paul Gunther, and Max Gunther, all of Eldred; aunt, Suzie Gunther of West Milford, N.J.; uncles, Paul and aunt, Allison Gunther of Highland Lakes, N.J., Kurt and aunt, Chris Mayer of Highland Lake, Jeff and aunt, LeeAnn Haas of Yulan, John and aunt, Naiomi Campbell of Glen Spey; and cousins, Bobby, Danny, Gabrielle, Alicia, Jeffrey, Jessica, Jenny, James, and Joseph.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, William E. Gunther, and maternal grandfather, John Campbell.
Friends and relatives will be received at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home, 3412 Route 97, Barryville on Friday, January 12, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13 at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church of Padua, Beaver Brook Rd., Yulan, with the Rev. Anthony Moore officiating.
Burial will be at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Yulan.

WWII Veteran, 79
Willard M. Turk of Middletown, a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, January 10, 2007. He was 79.
The son of the late Morris and Ransie McAdams Turk, he was born June 8, 1927 in Fremont Center.
He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Doris Verderber Turk; two sons, Michael and Bruce Turk; a brother, Vincent Turk; sisters, Arvilla Backlund and Virginia Muth; and a great grandson, Jesse James Turk.
Willard is survived by his beloved children, Linda Slottko, Karen Turk, Willard Kevin Turk, Pamela Sokoloff, Teri Lee Golden and Kimberly Turk; grandchildren, Darlene Blum, Ruthanne Sokoloff, James Golden, Amanda Sokoloff-Stivers, Willard and Philip Turk; great-grandchildren Samanatha and Michael Blum, Stephanie and Travis Turk; great-great-granddaughter, Dorianne Blum.
There will be no visitation.
Cremation and services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
A family statement reads, “We know he will be greatly missed by his many friends who will recall the man who was always ready to lend a helpiong hand and brighten their day with his unending sense of humor and wit.”

James Conklin
Truck Driver, 56
James H. Conklin, a truck driver from Ellenville, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at home. He was 56.
He was the son of Milo J. and Wanda Hampton Conklin. He was born April 10, 1950 in Liberty.
James was a member of the Teamsters Local 445 and the Ulster Heights Rod and Gun Club.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, whom he married on January 3, 1968; his mother, Wanda; two daughters, Linda Edwards, and her husband, John, of Colorado, and Tina Conklin, of Ellenville; two sons, James Conklin of Ellenville, and Milo Conklin, and his wife, Stephanie, of New Hampton; nine grandchildren, Austin French, Shauna Conklin, Anthonie Scott, Jonathan Conklin, Andrew Scott, Alyssa Scott, Milo Conklin Jr., Ethan Conklin, and Issabella Conklin; three brothers, Daniel of Middletown, Thomas of Monticello and Stephen of Woodbourne, and one sister, Nancy Hannold of Woodbourne.
He was predeceased by one granddaughter, Jacqueline Conklin.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 19, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 346 State Rt. 52, Woodbourne.

Charles S. Ogden, Sr. of Middletown, the former owner of The Carpet Store in Hudson Falls, died Monday, January 8, 2007 at home. He was 59.
The son of Kathleen Ogden and the late Albert Ogden, he was born on April 30, 1947 in Otisville.
Survivors include his mother, Kathleen Ogden of Middletown and his children, Charles S. Ogden, Jr. and his wife, Robin of Middletown, Shane Ogden and his companion, Courtney of New Hampton, Laura Ogden of Bloomingburg and Jason Ogden and his wife, Tanya of Hartford. He is also survived by his wife, Shirley Ogden of Queensbury; and his former wife, Jean Duvall of New Hampton; his brothers, David Ogden of New Windsor and Al Ogden of Perry; his grandchildren, Brandi, Brandon, Brianna, Devin, Kendra, Jackie, Matthew and Dillon; his great-grandson, Tyler Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 12 at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, 72 West Main Street in Middletown.
Burial will be made in Hillside Cemetery in Middletown.
Georgette St. John
Ret. of Kolmar Labs, 87
Georgette Schnakenberg St. John of Elizabethtown, Pa., a retiree of Kolmar Labs and a former longtime Port Jervis resident, died Wednesday, December 7, 2005, at the Lancaster (Pa.) Regional Medical Center. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late George and Sarah Purcell VanInwegen, she was born October 18, 1918, in Haven. She was the widower of Melvin Schnakenberg who died January 17, 1983, and also of Charles A. St. John who died January 29, 2005.
She is survived by five step-children, Phyllis Skok and her husband, James, of Camp Hill, Pa., Joyce Blunt of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., Janet Flynn and her husband, Joseph, of Lake City, Fla., and Jeffrey St. John and Charles St. John, both of Plymouth Meeting, Pa.; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Schnakenberg of Barryville; a sister, Emma Whitney of Dunedin, Fla.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, George Schnakenberg who died March 26, 2002.
There will be no visitation.
A funeral service will be held in the spring at the Sparrowbush United Methodist Church, followed by burial in the Rural Valley Cemetery in Cuddebackville.
Lawrence Kernusky
Ret. Truck Driver, 64
Lawrence William Kernusky of Liberty, a former resident of Livingston Manor and a retired truck driver, died Saturday, December 10, 2005, at his home. He was 64 years of age.
The son of Josephine Alice Kernusky and the late Lawrence Gallagher, he was born June 22, 1941, in New York City.
Mr. Kernusky was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He is survived by his mother, Josephine Condly of Liberty; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Mike Bibbo of Jeffersonville; a son, Matthew Hollenbeck of Jeffersonville; a granddaughter, Gwendolynn Hempstead; and two grandsons, Chance Bibbo and Shane Hollenbeck.
Services were held at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor on Thursday with Msgr. William Collins officiating.
Burial was made the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
