Carmine J. Lauria of Grahamsville, died Sunday, November 27, 2005. He was 49 years of age
In a family statement, it was said, “Carmine was a beloved father, brother and friend.”
He is survived by a daughter, Krystle; a son, Shane; a brother, Robert; a sister, Karen; and several nieces, nephews and many loving friends.
A Memorial Service was held at Nina’s Ristorante in Loch Sheldrake Wednesday evening.
Patricia R. Goodwin
Ret. Office Mgr., 81
Patricia Ruth Goodwin, a retired office manager for Pocono Ranchlands, and former resident of Bushkill, Pa., died Thursday, January 5, 2006 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 81.
The daughter of the late Thomas J. Darcy and Bess Davis Darcy, she was born December 3, 1924 in Peoria, Ill. She was the widow of J. Joseph "Joe" Goodwin who predeceased her in 1999.
She was the former president of the Christian Mothers at St. Catherine of Siena, Franklin Square, Long Island; and a member of St. John's Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg, Pa.
She is survived by her daughter: Gail A. Goodwin Stiene and husband, Edward of Monticello; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Mercier-Goodwin of Hanover, Pa.; her grandchildren, Darcy Stiene Duggan and husband Daniel of Godeffroy, Dana Stiene and significant other Peter Kovachi of Buffalo, Megan Goodwin Signor and husband Joel of Reisterstown, Md. and Aimee Goodwin Baker and husband Kenneth of Hanover, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Erik Duggan, Gailen Duggan, Emily Signor, Justin Signor, Kayla Baker and Carson Baker; nieces and nephews, Catherine Darcy, Donald Darcy, Donald (Janet) Goodwin, Carol Goodwin Mailloux and Robert Goodwin.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Kevin Goodwin of Hanover, Pa.
It was her wish to have her body donated to science. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Thomas Gallagher
Meat Cutter, 69
Thomas J. Gallagher, a self-employed meat cutter and 35-year resident of the area, died Thursday, January 5, 2006 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center, Liberty. He was 69.
The son of the late John and Agnes Maye Gallagher, he was born December 6, 1936 in the Bronx. Thomas was a past member of Hankins Fire Department, an N.R.A. member and a US Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Kile Gallagher, at home; a sister, Pat Lozita and her husband, Roy, of Orange Park, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Doris Gallagher; a sister, Marie Gallagher; a brother, John Gallagher; and one nephew, Mark Lozita.
A Mass was held on Monday, January 9, at Holy Cross Church, Callicoon, with Father Ignatius Smith OFM officiating.
Burial will be in Callicoon Cemetery, Callicoon.

Keith T. Hamlin, 55
Owner of Hamlin Exc.
Keith T. Hamlin of Liberty, owner of Hamlin Excavating Co., and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, January 8, 2006 in Liberty. He was 55.
The son of the late Carl and Elizabeth “Betty” Kelly Hamlin, he was born on November 13, 1950 in Liberty.
In a family statement, “He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and a great friend to all who knew him. He loved spending time with his family and was an avid hunter, ice fisherman, and golfer.”
Keith was a graduate of Liberty High School, Class of 1968, attended SUNY Delhi and graduated from West Virginia University in 1973. He was a member of the Liberty Hose and Truck Co. #2; a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Liberty Elk’s Lodge #1545; a member of the Sullivan County Golf Club Monday night league; a member and President of Wild Meadow Game Preserve; a member of the National Rifle Association; a member and President of the Wednesday night Concord Golf League; a member of the Aden Night Raiders Snowmobile Club; a member of the Empire State Highway Contractors Association; and a former member of the CBSC Advisory Board.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-one years and best friend Susan Lowery Hamlin, at home; one son, David K. Hamlin and his wife, Vanessa, of Grahamsville; one daughter, Colleen DeCiel and her husband Chris, of Purling; two sisters, Deborah Tanous of Ft. Myers, Fl. and Liberty; and Barbara Hamlin and her husband Curtis Struma of West Sand Lake; two brothers, Clifford Hamlin and his wife Pamela of Liberty and Kelly Hamlin and his wife Barbara of Parksville; three grandchildren, Kayden Faith Hamlin, Brenna Hope Hamlin and Christopher Scott DeCiel, Jr.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, John “Jackie” Hamlin.
Friends may call Wednesday, January 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, January 12 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Harris Funeral Home, in Liberty.
Firematic services will be Thursday morning, January 12 at 11:15 a.m. at the funeral home.
Spiritual services will be Thursday, January 12, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 264 North Main St., in Liberty. Monsignor William Collins and the Rev. Jearl Wallace will officiate.

Monroe R. Davis
Attorney, 91
Monroe R. Davis, decorated Marine officer in World War II and long time fixture in Sullivan County politics and legal affairs, of Monticello, died January 4, 2006 after a short illness. He was 91.
Born in New York City to Sam and Anna Davis on January 9, 1914, he moved to Woodridge early and remained a resident of Sullivan County for the rest of his life except for two years he spent attending Middlebury College on an athletic scholarship, earning letters in baseball and football, and three years attending Fordham University Law School in New York City.
Returning to Sullivan County, he married Esther Patashnick, his high school sweetheart to whom he remained married for 65 years, until her death in 2003.
He had recently opened a law practice in Woodbourne when the United States entered World War II. Enlisting in the Marines, he earned a commission and served in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded a Silver Star, Bronze Star with Combat V, and a Purple Heart. He retired from the Marine Corps Reserve at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
At the close of the war, he returned to his wife and a daughter who had been born shortly after his enlistment. He resumed the practice of law, first in Woodridge and later in Monticello as a member of the firm of Cooke & Davis. During the ensuing four decades of practice, he served at various times as Town Attorney and Councilman for the Town of Fallsburg, Village Attorney for the Village of Woodridge, member of the Fallsburgh School Board, County Leader and State Committee Member of the Democratic Party and a member of the Ethics Committee of the State Bar. He was campaign manager for Lawrence Cooke’s successful bid for election as Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals, then an elective office.
Mr. Davis’ prominence as a gadfly and fighter against those whom he believed abused the public trust was offset by a very private life of philanthropy and generosity to charities and to persons in the community who were in need. After retiring from his law firm, he resumed a curtailed private practice which he continued until he was 85. He remained active as an elder athlete, skiing until after his 90th birthday.
Mr. Davis is survived by two daughters, Susanne Cohn, an artist living in Jersey City, NJ, and Amy Troyani who resides and teaches in Pittsburgh, Pa., and his son, Stanley Davis, a business executive in Sanbornville, NH. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Emily and Joshua Davis, and Sara and Laura Troyani.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday, January 8, at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello. Burial was made in the Woodridge Synagogue Cemetery, Glen Wild.
Frances Hendershot
Homemaker, 73
Frances Hendershot of Monticello, a homemaker, died Wednesday, January 6, 2006 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, in Harris. She was 73 years of age.
The daughter of the late Antonio and Josephine Yzzo Mosco, she was born on October 4, 1932 in Englishtown, NJ.
“Frances was a loving, caring, kind and giving person. No one ever had to worry about going without as long as she was around. The table was always full at her house. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.”
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Walter, at home; two sons: Louis Hendershot and his wife, Sandra, of Monticello; Walter Hendershot Jr. and his wife, Maria, of Bronx; one daughter, Doreen Hendershot of Bronx; one grandson, Ricky Gonzalez, and many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 7, at 11 a.m. at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, in Woodbourne, with Rev. Paul Z. Ruter officiating.
Burial was made at the Sullivan County Veterans’ Cemetery in Liberty.
Everett Thompson
Retired Teacher, 68
Everett Selah Thompson of Youngsville, died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at home, after a long illness. He was 68.
The daughter of Frederick and Iva Everett Thompson, he was born on January 3, 1938 in Liberty.
“Everett was a retired music teacher at West Seneca Elementary School. He was an avid golfer, a terrific vocalist and guitar player; and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was born in Liberty, went into the Army Airborne Division in 1956, and graduated from SUNY Fredonia with a bachelor’s in Music Education. He moved to Silver Creek in 1967, where he lived for 30 years while raising his family. He moved to Youngsville in 1997 after marrying his high school sweetheart, Helen Muzuruk. He was a wonderful man and will be missed dearly.”
He is survived by his wife, Helen Muzuruk, at home; two daughters, Heather Torre and her husband, Frank, of Bristol, Conn., and Paula Thompson of New Haven, Conn.; two brothers, Frederick Thompson of Liberty and John “Jack” Thompson of Galveston, Texas; one sister, Dolores Gadshian of Monticello, and one grandson, Adriano Everett Torre.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 9, at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, in Jeffersonville. Cremation will take place at Twin Tiers Crematory, in Endicott.

Lillian Klimchok

Lillian Klimchok of Jeffersonville, former owner of the Callicoon Bowling Alley with her late husband, Joseph Klimchok, died Friday, January 6, 2006 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center, in Harris. She was 77 years of age.
The daughter of the late William and Selma Glockner Bernitt, she was born on February 9, 1928 in New York City.
She was a member of Holy Cross Church in Callicoon.
In addition to her husband, Joseph Klimchok, who died on May 26, 1997, she was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by four daughters, Linda Schaefer of Lake Huntington, Donna DuBois of Cochecton, Barbara Carlew of Liberty and Sandra Daub of Narrowsburg; her sister-in-law, Jitka Klimchok Snyder of Hancock; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 9, at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Church, in Callicoon, with Father Ignatius Smith, O.F.M. officiating. Burial was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Long Eddy.

H. L. Hodge of Liberty, a retired bus operator with the Metro in Washington, DC died Sunday, January 8, 2006 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, surrounded by his loving family. He was 94.
The son of the late Mood and Edell Jones Hodge, he was born November 25, 1911 in Sumter, SC.
In a family statement, “He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother”.
Survivors include his wife, Nonie E. Witherspoon Hodge, at home; one son, Robert M. Hodge of Liberty; one daughter, Gaile Kraycer and her husband Michael of Liberty; one sister, Lou Harvin of Manning, SC; two grandchildren, Kristine Cohen of Liberty and Melissa Jesmonth and her husband Jeffrey of Latham; two great grandchildren, Gregory and Ashlie Cohen of Liberty; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, (today) Jan. 10, 2006 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home West St. at Buckley, Liberty.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Sunset Lake Road, Liberty.
