Stanley Karas of Wurtsboro, a retired security officer for Banker’s Trust in New York City and Horton Medical Center in Middletown, died Saturday, February 4, 2006 at his home in Wurtsboro. He was 87.
The son of the late Joseph Karas and Francesca Owczarski Karas, he was born July 6, 1918 in Poland.
Stanley and his wife met while both were prisoners of war in Germany under Hitler during World War II. They survived the torturous forced labor in the mines, married soon thereafter, and moved to the United States in 1955 to raise a family. They have lived in Wurtsboro for the past 30 years, where he was a member of St. Joseph’s Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lydia Wysoczyn Karas, at home; three daughters, Lucy Notarbartolo and her husband, Arthur, of Otisville, Irene Karas of Brooklyn, and Helen Cabales of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Walter Karas of Poland; three grandchildren, Arthur, Danielle and Anthony; two great-grandchildren, Marissa and Michael; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Stanislawa Jaworski.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at St. Joseph’s Church in Wurtsboro with Fr. Peter Madori officiating.
Burial was made in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Wurtsboro.
Arrangements were by the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Wurtsboro.
Mary Etta Wood
Homemaker, 86
Mary Etta Wood of Yulan, a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris.
The daughter of the late Robert Rundle and Lydia Sullivan Rundle, she was born April 10, 1919 in Eldred. She was the widower of Bernard Kunkeli, Leonard Crandall, and Robert C. Hallock.
She was a loving mother, homemaker, and caring person.
In a family statement, it was said, “Mary Etta was an extremely generous person, who loved flowers, animals and especially doing for her family and friends. Mary Etta’s family would like to thank all the folks at the Achieve Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility.”
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence A. Wood, at home; a son, Bernard Kunkeli Jr. of Narrowsburg; a daughter, Rose B. Fredricks of Narrowsburg; three step-daughters: Linda Forrand of Lake Isabella, Calif., Marie Helbig and her husband, Charles, of Zeberlon, N.C., and Carolyn Clark and her husband, Vernon, of Waynesboro, Va.; two step-sons, Lawrence D. Wood and his wife, Alice, of Carlstadt, N.J. and John Hallock and his wife of New Jersey; five grandchildren, Darren Brodmerkel, Lance Brodmerkel, Conni Visneski and her husband, Mark, Todd Kunkeli and his wife, Chantel, Yancy Kunkeli and his wife, Theresa; a sister, Julia McBride of Monticello; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by five brothers, Delbert, Lester, Robert, Peter and Calvin, and two sisters, Sadie and Margaret.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home in Port Jervis with Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst officiating.
Burial was made in Montoza Cemetery, Barryville.

Charlotte Stoll
Housewife, 79
Charlotte Stoll of Suffern and Beach Lake, Pa., a housewife and short time resident of the area died Friday, June 29, 2007 at home. She was 79.
The daughter of the late Carlo A. and Rose Marie Cipriani, she was born June 14, 1928 in Suffern.
Charlotte was a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Suffern and a member of the Suffern Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.
A family statement reads, “Charlotte was a loving and giving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She took great pride in her family. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She was special.”
Survivors include her two daughters, Rose Marie Giardina and her husband, Joseph A. Jr. of Beach Lake, Pa. and Gail Ann Collins of Bloomingburg; her son, John Stoll III and his wife, Susan of Milford, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Angela Marie Giardina, Jeanette Lockowitz, Kris Rose, Karyl Townsend, Charlie Collins, Courtney Collins and Stephanie Stoll; five great-grandchildren, Adriana, Harold, Mia, Brittany and Joseph; six brothers and sisters, Tony Cipriani of Colorado, Mike Cipriani of California, Nick Dunado of Suffern, Anna Kawapich of Altoona, Pa., Josephine Glinsky of Hillburn and Loris Duvo of Hillburn; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call Monday, July 9 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg.
Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 10 at 1 p.m. at the St. Anthony’s R.C. Cemetery, Nanuet.

Russell E. Duttweiler
Ret. Company Owner, 88
Russell E. Duttweiler, lifetime resident of Jeffersonville, retired owner of Duttweiler Transportation Trucking & School Bus Company, died July 2, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 88.
He was born to Frederick H. and Helen Eggler Duttweiler on May 20, 1919 in Jeffersonville.
He was the former Mayor and Trustee of the Village of Jeffersonville, Jeffersonville Lions Club, member of the Jeffersonville Presbyterian Church and an elder of the church for over 70 years and former member of the Jeffersonville Fire Dept.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Gladys Jacobs Duttweiler at home; two daughters, Carol Fisher and her husband, Daniel of Jeffersonville and Barbara Rockwell and her husband, George of Cody, Wyoming; her son, Michael Duttweiler of Ithaca; two sisters, Mildred Duttweiler of Honesdale, Pa. and Helen Coyne of Tyler, Texas; five grandchildren, Craig Fisher, Kristin Ashworth Fanch, John Fanch, Christian Duttweiler and Katrina Duttweiler; five great-grandchildren, Caleb Fanch, Courtney Fanch, Dimitri Ashworth-Fanch, Skye Ashworth-Fanch and Maxwell Fisher.
He was predeceased by a sister, Josephine Duttweiler and a brother, Harold Duttweiler.
Services will be held on Friday, July 6 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville at 11 a.m. The Reverend Lee Andrews will officiate.
Burial will be made in the Jeffersonville Presbyterian Cemetery.

Estelle Podell
Homemaker, 83
Estelle Podell of Monticello passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007 after an extended illness at New York Community Hospital, Brooklyn. She was 83.
Throughout her life, Estelle was a devoted, warm-hearted, compassionate and giving mother. She was a loving sister and loving grandmother.
Friends, neighbors and everyone who knew her loved her.
We will miss you terribly and cherish your memory.
She is survived by her two sons, Allan and Steven Podell; grandchildren, Holly Woodard and Jonathan Podell; brother, Seymour Toback; niece, Michele Toback; nephew, Richard Toback; cousin, Virginia (Nana) DiFlorio; her longtime companion, William Amendolace and her canine companion, Princess.
A private service will be held by the family, as were her wishes. It was also her wish that, in lieu of flowers, a donation would be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, 386 Park Avenue South, New York, NY 10016-8804.

Robert K. Felter, Sr. of Basking Ridge, N.J., a retired manager for A&P and a resident of the area for many years, died July 2, 2007 at the Mennonite Home in Lancaster, Pa. He was 93.
Son of the late Frank Felter and Gertrude Quick, he was born July 20, 1913 in Forestburgh.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II. He was a member of Sparrowbush United Methodist Church, and member of V.F.W. Post 8745 in Whiting, N.J.
Survivors include two sons, Robert K. Felter of Lancaster, Pa. and James D. Felter of Basking Ridge, N.J.; one daughter, Patricia Crawford of Sparrowbush; four brothers, Lester Felter of Port Jervis, Harrison Felter of Sparrowbush, Fred Felter of Port Jervis, and Donald Felter of Sparrowbush; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Mortimer Felter; his three brothers, Richard Felter, William Felter and Frank Felter; and two sisters, Effie King and Marie Cuddeback.
Graveside services were held July 3 at Pine Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Mayer officiated.
Burial was made in Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush.

Thomas Robert Krejci of Bloomingburg, an assembler for Eclipse Awning of Middletown, died Saturday, May 26, 2007 at his home in Bloomingburg. He was 54.
Interment of his ashes will be held on Saturday, July 7 at 11:15 a.m. at The Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery in Bloomingburg.

Frank A. Lerario of Monroe, a four-year area resident, died Sunday, July 1, 2007 in New Windsor. He was 22.
The son of Frank Lerario and Sulma Puente Gonzalez, he was born on August 1, 1984 in the Bronx.
Frank was a Furniture Mover for TNT Moving Company in Circleville.
Survivors include his father, Frank Lerario of Mountaindale; mother and step-father, Sulma and Iran Gonzalez of Monroe; sisters, Jasmine Matos and Vanessa Miranda of the Bronx and Lisa Lerario and Augustina Gonzalez of Monroe; paternal grandmother, Joan Lerario of Mountaindale; and maternal grandmother, Carlina Rodriguez of the Bronx.
Friends may call on Friday, July 6, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel of the Sacred Heart, Stage Road, Monroe, with Rev. George Pulparayil officiating.

Michael Joseph Scully

Michael Joseph Scully of Sparrowbush, passed away peacefully at home on July 3, 2007. He was 56.
Son of Betty Scully and the late Christopher John Scully, he was a beloved husband, intensely proud father, brother, uncle, and friend of many.
Mike was a lifelong resident of the Port Jervis area. With his wife, he created, owned and operated the Port Jervis Diner and Scully's Restaurant. After selling Scully's, he worked as a cook at the Otisville Correctional Facility, a job he enjoyed immensely.
Mike loved being outdoors, was a fisherman and wildlife enthusiast. Mike's courage, sense of humor, smile and spirit will forever inspire all who knew him. He has touched many over his lifetime with his generosity, compassion and dedication to helping others.
Mike would have liked to thank his friends and family for helping him over the course of his illness; particularly Ed and Doretta Reiss and Marilyn Sigretto.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Luverne; a son, Michael Jr. of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Christina Scully of Royal Oak, Mich.; brothers, Christopher J. Scully of Eldred and James Scully of Bakersfield, Calif.; and sisters, Dr. Janice Scully of DeWitt and Barbara Scully of Burbank, Calif.
Services and interment will be private.
