Elvan K. Monington of Damascus, Pa., a lifelong area resident and retired from Bethany Homestead Farms and Moore Business Forms in Honesdale, Pa., died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, Pa. He was 87 years of age.
The son of the late Roy and Della Rice Monington, he was born November 28, 1912, in Damascus, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Monington, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Larry Kerber of Tyler Hill, Pa.; two sisters, Wanda Smith of Chenango Forks and Irma Marks of Hancock; two grandchildren, Kyle Kerber and his wife, Pam, and Beth Taninies and her husband, Clarke; two great-grandchildren, Brittany and Clay Taninies; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by twin daughters, Marion and Martha, three brothers, Kenneth, Leary and Arlyn, two sisters, Beryl and Glera, and a grandson, Kevin.
Friends may call at the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg on Friday from 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg with the Rev. George Gallandorm officiating.
Burial will be made in Hillside Cemetery in Damascus, Pa.

Dorothy Schroeder
Homemaker, 74
Dorothy Schroeder of Liberty, a homemaker and longtime area resident, died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 74 years of age.
She was born February 19, 1926.
Miss Schroeder attended St. Peter's R.C. Church in Monticello for many years.
She is survived by a dear friend, Linda Guinan of Livingston Manor.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Stations of the Cross will be recited at 7:45 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius R.C. Church in Livingston Manor, followed by a Memorial Mass at 8:15 a.m. with the Rev. Alfred Croke as the celebrant. The Rosary will be recited following the Mass.
Interment of the cremains will be made later in Calvary Cemetery in Long Island City.
Funeral arrangements were made by Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.
William Gobel
Ret. CPA, 86
William Gobel of Monticello, a 50-year area resident and a certified public account in Liberty, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. He was 86 years of age.
The son of the late Philip and Esther Gobel, he was born April 19, 1913, in Brooklyn.
Mr. Gobel was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, NYS Society of Certified Public Accountants, a life member of the Community General Hospital Auxiliary and a charter member of the Jewish Community Center in Monticello.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Bute Gobel, at home; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ken Gobel of Monticello, John and Nancy Bute of Florida, and Peter and Dana Gobel of Randolph, Mass.; a daughter, Alexis Kahn of Woodbourne; six grandchildren, Simone Gobel, Michelle Kahn, Jessica Kahn, Alexa Bute, Abraham Gobel and Sophia Bute; a sister, Ruth Silver of Arizona. He was predeceased by a sister, Bernice Birnbaum.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 186 Broadway, Monticello.
Burial will be private.

Kitchen Worker, 58
April 7, 2000 -- Joseph Love of Monticello, a kitchen worker at Kutsher's Hotel in Monticello, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 58 years of age.
The son of the late J.T. Millan and Agnes Hayes Lee, he was born August 9, 1941, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mr. Love was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Lucillle Dumas Freeman, at home; a son, Michael LeRon Nelson Sr., of Jacksonville, Fla; two step-sons, Jamil Freeman and Alvin Dumas, both of Monticello; a daughter, JoAnn Michelle Love of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Willie James Lee of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Reeba Smith and Virginia Catherine Lee, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; an aunt, Virginia Katherine Cullen of Philadelphia, Pa.; several grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 66 St. John St., Monticello, on Friday from noon to 1 p.m.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Willie Smith officiating.
Burial will be made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

Elizabeth D. Brigham of Liberty, a lifelong area resident and a retired seamstress, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty.
The daughter of the late John Sr. and Flora Drumm, she was born July 16, 1917, in Galilee, Pa. She was the widow of Jasper LaTour Brigham Sr.
Mrs. Brigham is survived by four children, Donna Nober of Cochecton, Jasper LaTour Brigham Jr. of Luzerne, Pa., Debra Brigham of Brevard, N.C., and Trudy Stalker of Galilee, Pa.; a brother, Arnold Drumm of Galilee, Pa.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were held at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Galilee, Pa., on Thursday with the Rev. Stuart Hunt officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Damascus or to the Damascus Volunteer Ambulance Corps, both at Damascus, Pa. 18415.

Rudolph Paul Miller of Beach Lake, Pa., a 13-year area resident and the retired owner/operator of Miller's Deli in Weehawken, N.J., died Monday, April 3, 2000, at his home. He was 73 years of age.
The son of the late Paul Kurt and Elsa Marie Friedrich Miller, he was born April 24, 1926, in Leipzig, Germany.
Mr. Miller was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Flying Eagles Radio Control Club of Prompton, Pa., and the Beach Lake Aeromodelers in Beach Lake, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Feito Esparza, at home; three children, Steve Miller of Secaucus, N.J., Chris Miller of Beach Lake, Pa., and John Miller of Glen Rock, N.J.; a sister, Johanna Lucia; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday at the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg with the Rev. Phyllis Haynes officiating.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

Freda Kahn
Homemaker, 81
Freda Kahn of Monticello, a homemaker and a 30-year area resident, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 81 years of age.
She was born April 1, 1919, in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Kahn was a member of Temple Sholom and the Monticello Senior Citizens, both in Monticello.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Kahn of Chester and Leonard Kahn of Laguna, Calif.; a daughter, Marcella Samuels of Stony Point; and several grandchildren. She was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 66 St. John St., Monticello with Rabbi Irwin A. Tanenbaum officiating.
Howard W. Kewley
Carpenter/Lather, 73
April 11, 2000 -- Howard W. Kewley of Kauneonga Lake, a union carpenter and lather for Local 499 in New City and a 60-year area resident, died Friday, April 7, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 73 years of age.
The son of the late Howard and Grace McCary Kewley, he was born March 19, 1927, in Sherill.
Mr. Kewley was a member of St. Peter's Church in Monticello, a more than 50-year member and current treasurer of the Kauneonga Lake Fire Department; a former commissioner of the Kauneonga Lake Fire District; a member of the Bethel Lions Club; an NRA firearms instructor; a Boy Scout leader; member and current secretary of the Sullivan County Dive Team and a certified scuba diver.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Frances Sardonia Kewley, at home; two sons, William Kewley of Havertown, Pa., and James Kewley of Buffalo; two daughters, Susan Homes of Deland, Fla., and Barbara Putzer of Harris; and three grandchildren, Katie Kewley, Patrick Kewley and Samantha Putzer.
Services were held Monday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Kauneonga Lake.
Burial was made in the VanKeuren Cemetery in Swan Lake.

Angel L. Rivera of Puerto Rico, a retired commissioner for the New York State Division of Parole and a former Goshen resident, died Friday, April 7, 2000, in Puerto Rico. He was 81 years of age.
He was born June 19, 1918, in Cayey, Puerto Rico.
Mr. Rivera was a former member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Goshen.
He is survived by his wife, Eneida Rivera of Goshen; 10 children, Cesar Rivera of Puerto Rico, Milton Walker of Goshen, Nelsie Walker of Bradenton, Fla., Jose Rivera of Goshen, Victor Rivera of New York City, Andrea Roberto, Elba Rivera and Miriam Connolly, all of Goshen, Lyda O'Shea of Bloomingburg, and Carrie Lynn Walker of South Carolina; two brothers, Jaime and Julio Cesar of Puerto Rico; a sister, Providencia of Puerto Rico; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were held at the National Cemetery in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
