Louis Stephenson
Ret. Carpenter, 90

May 2, 2000 -- Louis C. Stephenson of White Lake, a retired carpenter for Local 255 in Bloomingburg and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital. He was 90 years of age.
The son of the late Charles and Minnie VanBergen Stephenson, he was born December 8, 1909, in Bethel.
Mr. Stephenson was a member of the White Lake Fire Department.
He is survived by four sons, Charles Stephenson of Tampa, Fla., John Hendrickson of Fairfield, Pa., Merlin Hendrickson of Blacksburg, S.C., and Ronald Hendrickson of White Lake; a daughter, Arlene Leasure of Statesville, N.C.; three sisters, Roseanna Brog and Rita Yewchuck, both of Jeffersonville, and Sylvia Martinis of California; 21 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Monday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Kauneonga Lake with the Rev. Kenneth Rodgers officiating.
Burial was made in Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.

Howard Weiner, 52
Ret. SCCC Librarian

Howard Weiner of West Palm Beach, Fla., a retired librarian at Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake and a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at the JFK Medical Center in Atlantis, Fla. He was 52 years of age.
The son of the late Leo and Sadie Cohen Weiner, he was born July 11, 1947, in Monticello.
He is survived by two brothers, Steven M. Weiner of Longmeadow, Mass., and Richard H. Weiner of Albany; his step-mother, Beatrice Rosen Weiner of Monticello; three nephews, Benjamin, Jonathan and Samuel Weiner; and a niece, Sara Weiner.
Services were held Sunday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello with Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiating.
Burial was made in the Landfield Avenue Synagogue in Monticello.

Lawrence Lewis
Carpenter, 56

Lawrence "Larry" Lewis of Middletown, a carpenter for Preventive Maintenance in Middletown, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at his home, after a long illness. He was 56 years of age.
The son of the late George and Florence Towne Lewis, he was born July 19, 1943, in Warwick.
Mr. Lewis is survived by three sons, Lawrence Lewis Jr. of Ashville, N.C., Stephen Lewis of Phoenix, Ariz., and Frank Lewis of Slate Hill; two daughters, Christine Delrio and Melissa Cobos, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Linda Beach of Middletown and Sally Gray of Warwick; two brothers, George Lewis of Bloomingburg and Chester Lewis of Florida; a cousin, Ted Hummel of Bloomingburg; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six brothers, Harold, Jack and Roger VanKleeck and Dennis, Francis "Butch" and Roy Lewis, and two sisters, Dorothy Ashley and June Lewis.
Memorial services were held Saturday with Father Joseph Fallon of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, N.Y. 12550.

John C. Noval, 71
Ret. Golf Course Supt.

John C. Noval of Loch Sheldrake, a retired Town of Fallsburg golf course superintendent, co-owner of M&N Explosives and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at his home. He was 71 years of age.
The son of the late Michael and Victoria Alexandrowicz Nowoslawski, he was born June 19, 1928, in Secaucus, N.J.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Clarence Hoyt Post No. 9217, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Liberty. He was also a member of the Loch Sheldrake Fire Department and a member of the Brotherhood and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 1545 in Liberty.
Mr. Noval is survived by his wife of 47 years, Regina Vantran Noval, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Lisa Noval of Gainesville, Ga.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and William Henkelman of Liberty and Linda and Brian McCabe of Callicoon Center; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Monday at the Reformed Church in Woodbourne with the Rev. Paul Z. Ruter officiating.
Burial was made in the Woodbourne Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, N.Y. 12550 or to the Reformed Church, P.O. Box 627, Woodbourne, N.Y. 12788.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne.

Jerome Tannenbaum
Ret. Manager, 59

Jerome P. "Jerry" Tannenbaum of Hurleyville, a retired 15-year manager of the hardware department of the Liberty Trading Post and a 27-year area resident, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at the home of his sister in Staten Island. He was 59 years of age.
The son of the late Joseph and Eleanor Tannenbaum, he was born November 16, 1940, in Newark, N.J.
He served for six years in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Mr. Tannenbaum is survived by two sons, Greg Tannenbaum of Union, N.J., and Rodney Tannenbaum and his wife, Sally, of Bridgewater, N.J.; a sister, Marcia Gaor of Staten Island; and three nephews, Matthew, Kevin and Andrew.
Services were held Sunday at Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union, N.J.
Interment was made in Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin, N.J.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pax Christi Hospice, 355 Bard Ave., Staten Island, N.Y. 10310.

Sarah Schwartz, 84
Ret. Co-Owner of Store

Sarah "Belle" Schwartz of Livingston Manor, a 75-year area resident and the retired co-owner of Schwartz Meat and Grocery in Livingston Manor where she was the bookkeeper and cashier for over 50 years, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 84 years of age.
The daughter of the late Abe and Rebecca Sabesin Boland, she was born June 18, 1915, in Montreal, Canada. She was the widow of Hym Schwartz.
Mrs. Schwartz was a member of the Livingston Manor Senior Citizens, Temple Agudas Achim and the Ladies Aid Society of the Temple, all in Livingston Manor.
In a family statement, it was said, "A beloved and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Belle was an active community member and she will be greatly missed by all."
She is survived by three daughters, Joan Ressler of Tucson, Ariz., and Donna Bills and Hope Schwartz, both of Livingston Manor; a sister, Sophie Jacobs of the state of Florida; a brother, Myer Boland, of New Jersey; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor with Rabbi Irwin Tanenbaum officiating.
Burial was made in Agudas Achim Cemetery in Livingston Manor.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Livingston Manor Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 1, or to Temple Agudas Achim, P.O. Box 714, Rock Avenue, both at Livingston Manor, N.Y. 12758.

Ethel C. Rouis
Homemaker, 96

Ethel C. Rouis of Burlingham, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 96 years of age.
The daughter of the late Fred and Maggie Hamilton Clark, she was born November 22, 1903, in Glen Wild. She was the widow of Paul A.A. Rouis Sr.
Mrs. Rouis is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul A.A. and Marianne Rouis Jr. of Burlingham; four grandchildren, Paul A.A. Rouis III, Dina Shortall, Jonathan Rouis and Aimee DeMattos; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Ralph Clark.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Church of the Infant Saviour in Pine Bush with the Rev. Alfred Gallant officiating.
Burial will be made in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Wurtsboro.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund for the Religious Education Center, Church of the Infant Saviour, 22 Holland Ave., Pine Bush, N.Y. 12566.
Funeral arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Wurtsboro.

Anna J. Hendershot
Homemaker, 77

Anna J. Hendershot of Greeley, Pa., a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 77 years of age.
The daughter of the late Marvin and Harriet Caskey Gilson, she was born June 27, 1922, in Mongaup. She was the widow of Edward Hendershot.
Mrs. Hendershot was a communicant of St. Ann's R.C. Church in Shohola, Pa.
She is survived by a son, John Hendershot of Pond Eddy; a sister, Eleanor Kinzel of Pond Eddy; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, William Hendershot and Russell Eldred.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday at St. Ann's R.C. Church in Shohola, Pa., with the Rev. Michael Quinnan officiating.
Burial was made in the Germanhill Cemetery in Shohola, Pa.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greeley Ambulance Corps, Greeley, Pa. 18425.

Anthony Dennison Sr.
Laborer, 59

Anthony Dennison Sr. of Monticello, a laborer and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 59 years of age.
The son of the late Cecil and Deon Dennison, he was born in Suffern on April 17, 1941.
In a family statement, it was said, "He was a dedicated husband and will be greatly missed by his children."
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie McMahon Dennison, at home; three sons, Anthony Dennison and Andrew Dennison, both of Middletown and Brian Dennison of Malone; three daughters, Brigitte Dennison of Middletown, Naomi Dennison of Burlingham and Dawn Dennison of North Carolina; 11 grandchildren, James Olson, Michael Olson, Brandon Dennison and Brianna Dennison, all of Middletown, Charmaine Vargas of Walden, James M. Nowicki Jr. of Burlingham, Clarissa, Chad, Corey and Chris Houston, all of North Carolina and Kimberly Dennison of Spring Valley; four great-grandchildren, Damien Collazo and Izabella Vargas, both of Walden and Adalia Olson and Michael Olson Jr., both of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews; and 10 step-children.
Services and interment were private.
