Donald Platt Sr.
Ret. HD Foreman, 72

Donald Platt Sr. of Wurtsboro, a retired foreman for the Town of Mamakating Highway Department and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at his home. He was 72 years of age.
The son of the late Riley and Loretta Martin Platt, he was born September 12, 1927, in Ellenville.
Mr. Platt was a member of the New York State Trapper's Association and a trustee for the Sylvan Cemetery Association in Wurtsboro. Mr. Platt enjoyed the companionship of two dogs, Rusty and Abigale.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Sarine Platt, at home; a son, Donald Platt Jr. of Wurtsboro; two daughters, Darlene Di Martino of Wurtsboro and Sheila Platt Doty of Cochecton; two brothers, Riley "Bud" Platt of Wurtsboro and Jacob Platt of Bradenton, Fla.; a sister, Bertha Huppman of Morristown, N.J.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Platt, two brothers, Edward Platt Sr. and Joseph Stedner and a sister, Ceilia Hogencamp.
Graveside services and burial will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sylvan Cemetery, Route 209, Wurtsboro.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wurtsboro Fire Department, P.O. Box 457, or to the Mamakating First Aid Squad, both at Wurtsboro N.Y. 12790.

Lee Sleeper Jr.
Plumber/Electrician, 80

Lyman Everett "Lee" Sleeper Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., a former resident of Lake Huntington and the Beechwoods, died Monday, April 3, 2000, in Jacksonville, Fla., after a long illness. He was 80 years of age.
The son of the late Lyman Everett and Mildred MacIntyre Sleeper, he was born August 18, 1919, in Shrewsburg, Mass.
In his youth, Mr. Sleeper was on the swim team in high school and attended trade school where he studied cabinetmaking. He worked for a time with a great-uncle, Frank Wilson, on Mr. Wilson's gladiola farm in York, Pa. He worked for the Greyhound Bus Line during and after the 1939 World's Fair.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he was attached to motor pools in England and France.
After the war, he moved with his family to Lake Huntington and, with his father, his brother Robert and their wives, was involved in the operation of the Nutshell Hotel.
In 1950, Mr. Sleeper went into business for himself as a plumber and electrician. He installed and serviced a number of the first television sets in Sullivan County.
In 1955, he moved to Connecticut where Mr. Sleeper operated a fuel oil and propane supply business. He was active in showing dogs during this period.
Mr. Sleeper moved to Florida in 1966 where he operated a heating, ventilation and air conditioning business until he retired. He was a skilled artisan and craftsman and had many hobbies including raising hunting and show dogs, raising homing pigeons and cultivating orchids. He was a master gardener and loved working about his home and yard. He especially enjoyed the children and grandchildren of his two extended families.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Glesten Hammitt Sleeper, at home; a step-daughter, Judy Hammitt and her children, John Marcus Hammitt and Ginger Hammitt Welch and Ginger's children, Brandon and Joshua; a son, Ronald Sleeper of Cabot, Vt., Ronald's daughter, Sara Sleeper of Gorham, Me.; Ronald's sons, Ethan, Orion and Theron of Cabot, Vt., and daughter, Diane Monti of Barre, Vt., and her daughter, Sandra Reib Dysard of Stewarttown, Pa.; a sister-in-law Lorraine Snyder Sleeper (wife of his brother Robert who died in 1984) and their children, Carole, Barbara, Cheryl, Terry and Robert Sleeper Jr., all of Florida; and a good friend, Bert Schoof of Marion, N.C.
Services were held in Florida.

Eugene J. O'Neill
Ret. Dynamite Blaster, 90

May 9, 2000 -- Eugene J. O'Neill of Eldred, a retired dynamite blaster for the Sullivan County Department of Public Works in Barryville and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 90 years of age.
The son of the late Eugene and Daisy O'Neill, he was born September 9, 1909, in Pond Eddy. He was the widower of Helen Clouse O'Neill who died in 1990.
Mr. O'Neill was a member of the Sullivan County Cooperative Extension.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Walter Adamek of Barryville; a sister, Anna Brennan of Pond Eddy; two brothers, Francis O'Neill of Hobes Sound, Fla., and Charles O'Neill of Hudson, Fla.; a grandson, Terry Schlitter of Winchester, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Bernard O'Neill.
Services were held Saturday at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville with the Rev. Evan Greco officiating.
Interment was made in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Eldred.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eldred American Legion Ambulance, Eldred, N.Y. 12732.

Anthony Dennison Sr.

Anthony Dennison Sr. of Monticello, a former Rockland County resident, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris.
He was the son of the late Cecil and Deon Dennison.
Mr. Dennison is survived by two sisters, Veronica of Monroe and Willow Mae of Mahwah, N.J.; two brothers, William of Monroe and Bruce of Swan Lake; 11 step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Beatrice A. Price
Homemaker, 74

Beatrice A. Price of Monticello, a lifelong area resident and a homemaker, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at her home. She was 74 years of age.
The daughter of the late Frederick L. and Florence M. Towne DeGraw, she was born January 10, 1926, in Fallsburg.
Mrs. Price was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Bailey-Richman Post No. 9588, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Monticello.
She is survived by her husband, Bertsel A. Price, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly A. and Edward Scott of Monticello; a brother, Theodore DeGraw of Harris; two sisters, Shirley Taggart of Monticello and Luella Tremper of Fallsburg; two grandsons, Edward A. Scott and Jason F. Scott; five great-grandchildren, Heather, Amanda, Christina, Alli and Trevor; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello with Mrs. Penny Jo Collins officiating.
Burial was made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 628, Monticello, N.Y. 12701.

Cornelius Hermann Jr.
Ret. Electrician, 69

Cornelius J. Hermann Jr., a seven year resident of Neversink, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris, after a long illness. He was 69 years of age.
The son of Edna M. Soncini Hermann and the late Cornelius J. Hermann, he was born February 28, 1931, in Roosevelt.
Mr. Hermann was an electrician for Samaritan Village in Ellenville. An Air Force veteran, serving from 1949 to 1952, he served in Germany. He attended the Assembly of God Church in Woodbourne.
He is survived by his mother of Tucson, Ariz.; his wife, Frances C. Riebow Hermann, at home; three sons, Neal Hermann and Larry Hermann, both of Middletown, and Arthur Hermann of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Susan Goyette of Middletown; two brothers, James and Richard Hermann of Tucson, Ariz.; four granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty with the Revs. Richard and Kathy Ienuso, of the Woodbourne Assembly of God, officiating.
Cremation was private at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Walter H. Martin Sr.
Ret. Laborer, 61

Walter H. Martin Sr. of Bloomingburg, a retired laborer with various construction companies and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 61 years of age.
The son of the late Edward and Carolyn York Martin Sr., he was born May 1, 1939, in the Town of Wallkill.
Mr. Martin was a member of the Bloomingburg Grange.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Miller Martin, at home; two sons, Walter Martin Jr. and George Martin, both of Bloomingburg; three daughters, Beverly Goodman of Middletown, Debra Russo of Wurtsboro and Nancy Martin of Middletown; four brothers, Edward Martin Jr. and Paul Martin, both of Bloomingburg, John Martin and Harry Martin, both of Wurtsboro; three sisters, Pearl Bader of Circleville, Jeanette Barrett of Bloomingburg and Carol Sands of Ohio; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday evening at the Dewitt Funeral Home in Pine Bush with the Rev. Robert Hewitt officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middletown.

William J. Carroll Sr.
Ret. Forest Ranger, 67

William J. Carroll Sr. of Neversink, a retired forest ranger with the NYS Palisades Interstate Service and an eight-year area resident, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at his home. He was 67 years of age.
The son of the late Preston J. and Martha L. Keeley Carroll, he was born April 5, 1933, in Long Beach, Calif. He was the widower of Estelle Solomon Carroll who died in 1978.
Mr. Carroll served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the New York State Archeological Society, Orange County Chapter, and was a former Boy Scout leader in Tuxedo.
He is survived by his wife, Harolynn Beach Carroll, at home; a son, William J. Carroll Jr. of Middletown; a brother, Preston Carroll of Gardiner; a step-brother, Earl Beach Jr. of Monticello; two step-daughters and their husbands, Robin and Brian Evans Sr. of Neversink and Katherine and Stanley Cohen of Liberty; and a grandson, Brian Evans Jr.
Services were held Saturday at the Harris Funeral Home in Liberty with the Rev. David McCarthy officiating.
Burial was made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty Free Methodist Church, Liberty, N.Y. 12754, or to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, N.Y. 12550.

Efrosynva Komar
Ret. Seamstress, 89

Efrosynva Komar of Eldred, a retired seamstress, died Friday May 5, 2000, at the Orange County Residential Health Care Facility in Goshen. She was 89 years of age.
The daughter of the late Peter and Tatiana Koleda, she was born June 9, 1910, in Novogroder, Belarus. She was the widow of Alexander Komar.
Mrs. Komar attended St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Glen Spey.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Tamara and Stefan Palylyk and Nadia and Valentin Kotlarow, all of Eldred, and Terry and Nicholas Christodoulous of Rego Park, Queens; four grandchildren, Alexander Kotlarow, Jaroslaw Palylyk and his wife, Alexandra, Julie Mulherin and her husband Danny, and Eva Christodoulous; five great-grandchildren, Roman, Tatiana and Stefan Palylyk, and Shawna and Ryan Mulverin.
Services were held Monday at St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Glen Spey with the V. Rev. Nestor Kowal officiating.
Burial was made in the Glen Spey Cemetery in Glen Spey.
