Bernice Ostashever
New Hope Family member, 70

Bernice Ostashever of Loch Sheldrake passed away on August 22, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 70.
The daughter of Louis and Rose Lederman Ostashever, she was born on August 22, 1937 in Bronx.
On December 11, 2003 she became part of the New Hope Family where she enjoyed a host of activities and events from music, dancing, painting and day trips. She then became part of a larger family when she joined the LAC day program in January 2004. She quickly developed and won the hearts of many with her warm smile and wave of her hand to beckon a familiar face to come and see what she was doing or what she had created. She had a special way of getting one's attention by re-naming the staff with nicknames.
She also found love at New Hope with Roger E. They shared many of the same interests.
Bernice leaves behind pleasant memories with her entire extended family with the New Hope Community and many friends at the Living Art Center, and lastly her previous family care providers, the Julien Family of Spring Valley. Although she had been residing at the Roscoe Nursing Home since March, she touched the hearts of many while with them.
Survivors include her entire extended New Hope Community.
A service was held at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home Monday August 27 followed by interment in the Woodbourne Reformed Cemetery in Woodbourne. Rabbi Rebecca Shinder officiated.
Arrangements were under the direction of Colonial Memorial Funeral Home.

George A. Sinacore Sr.
Retired Supervisor, 89

George A. Sinacore Sr. of Cochecton, a longtime resident of the area, died on Friday, August 24, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was 89.
The son of the late Anthony and Mary Montalbano Sinacori, he was born November 16, 1917 in Brooklyn.
George was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a retired supervisor for Starrett City, Brooklyn, and a member of Our Lady of the Lake R.C. Church, Lake Huntington. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the American Legion, and a Scout Master for 42 years.
A family statement read, “George was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He took great pride in his family. He was an avid hunter and outdoors- man. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.”
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Aurelia Barberio Sinacore; his three children, Anthony Sinacore of Liberty, Mary Lou Peers and her husband, Randolph of Monticello and George A. Sinacore Jr. and his wife, Diane of Massapquie Park; his six grandchildren, Christine Sinacore, Randy Peers and his wife, Lana, Douglas Peers and Christopher Peers, George Sinacore III and Jessica Sinacore; and one brother Anthony Sinacore of Florida.
George was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Sinacore; and his sister, Marion Banning.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, August 27 at Our Lady of The Lake Church, Rte. 52, Lake Huntington. The Rev. William Scully, O.F.M., officiated.
Burial was made in Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Regional Medical Center, 68 Harris-Bushville Road, Harris, NY 12742.

Wilson C. Carter
Ret. Police Officer, 64

Wilson C. Carter of Manhattan, formerly of Pine Bush and long-time area resident, died Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at home. He was 64.
Son of the late John and Grace Carter, he was born on March 3, 1943 in Norton, Va.
Wilson was a retired police officer for the Town of Crawford Police Dept., and a Town of Montgomery Police Officer from 1972-1974.
Survivors include his loving sons, Michael Carter and his wife Jennifer of Wurtsboro, Aaron Carter and his fiancee Elaine Hasher of Pine Bush, and Heath Carter of California; two grandchildren Janeene and Michael Carter; brothers, Charles Carter of Maryland, Bob Carter of Ohio and Glen Carter of Arizona; and sisters, nieces and nephews; and his longtime companion, Maryann Balint.
A funeral service was held Monday at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home, Pine Bush.
Cremation was made in the Cedar Hill Crematory.

Frank W. Spisso Jr.
Ret. Bus Driver, 71

Frank W. “Buddy” Spisso Jr., a lifetime resident of Middletown, died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 25, 2007, at his residence. He was 71.
Frank was born in Middletown on August 2, 1936, the son of the late Frank W. and Mary DiBenio Spisso.
He served in the U.S. Army and retired from his position as bus driver for the Town of Wallkill Dial-A-Bus. A member of the Mechanicstown Fire Department, he served as a district commissioner for 25 years. He was an honorary member of the Town of Wallkill PBA and a former committeeman for the Town of Wall-kill Republican Committee.
He was affectionately known as “The Godfather” with his gravelly voice and infectious smile.
Survivors include his daughter, Jean and her husband, Ray Mathiesen, of Morrisville, Pa.; his son, Thomas A. Spisso and his wife, Debbie, of Morrisville, Pa.; his sisters, Theresa and her husband, Russ Feigum, of Pine City, Minn., and Letitia “Tish” and her husband, Clifford Mathiesen, of Circleville; his brothers, Samuel N. Spisso and his wife, Joy, of Alameda, Calif. and Anthony J. Spisso and his wife, Mary Jane, of Bloomingburg; his companion, Patricia Leo of Middletown; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Frank W. Spisso III, and his sisters, Mary Ann Conklin and Joan Firman.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, August 28 at Morse Funeral Home, Inc., 33 Railroad Ave., Middletown.
Firematic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, followed by prayer services at 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Middletown.
Entombment will follow in the Mother, Queen of Peace Mausoleum, Middletown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mechanicstown Fire Company, 22 Victory La., Middletown, NY 10940.

Thomas Alfred Sutton
Commercial Artist, 72

Thomas Alfred Sutton, a resident of Bloomingburg for over 34 years, died Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Valley Columbia Hospital, N.J. He was 72.
The son of the late Sidney and Genevieve Helene Johnson Sutton, he was born in Flushing.
He was a commercial artist at Bill Bard Associates in Monticello, and parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Bloomingburg, for 30 years.
Thomas is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Virginia McQuade Sutton; loving daughter, Theresa Anne Sutton-Reali and her husband, Michael; sons, Thomas Arthur Sutton, Timothy Albert Sutton of Houston, Texas, and Ted Andrew Sutton and his wife, Julia; six grandchildren, Erin, Joshua, Sofia, Samantha, Hannah and Bridget; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Jane Phillips.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Bloomingburg on Monday, August 27, with Father Raymond Bagdonis officiating.
Interment was made in Bloomingburg Cemetery.

Juan Francisco Chico, 69

Juan Francisco Chico of Liberty, a lifetime resident of the area, born in Hatillo, Puerto Rico, died Thursday, August 23, 2007. He was 69.
He was the son of Trinidad Gonzalez and Jose Chico.
Survivors include his wife, Sonia Chico of Liberty; four daughters, Margaret Perez of Texas, Rita Whittman of Grahamsville, Mary Sanchez of Ellenville and Luz Mendez of Liberty; two sons, George Chico of Manhattan and Francis Chico of Liberty; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at Iglesia Nuestra Sra. Del Carmen Hatillo, P.R 00659 at 12:30 p.m.

Zolie "Sonny" Bozayak
Retired Baker, 87

Zolie “Sonny” Bozayak of Liberty, a retired baker, died Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was 87.
Sonny was born September 8, 1920 in Roebling, N.J. to John and Julia Tedik Bozayak.
Sonny was a baker at Grossinger’s Hotel in Liberty for more than 45 years, and served his country as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army in WWII. He was a member of the Liberty Elks #1545. He enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by two god-daughters and their families, Charlotte Hartman and her husband, Donald, of Hurleyville and Carol Pazzalia and her husband, Thomas, of Liberty.
All his family and his longtime friends, Ben and Anne Noecker, predeceased him.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment with military honors will be made in Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Liberty.
Arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, Woodbourne.

Joan A. Foley
Insurance Salesperson, 76

Joan A. Foley of South Fallsburg died Tuesday, August 21, 2007. She was 76.
The daughter of the late Merrill and Veronica McGuire Bennett, she was born February 16, 1931 in Watervliet.
She was the widow of Ivor J. Foley.
Joan attended Rutgers University and received her Associate’s degree in Substance Abuse from Sullivan County Community College. She counseled at the Otisville Correctional Facility. She was known by many for her years as an insurance salesperson for the Combined Life Insurance Co. Joan loved sitting in her yard and enjoyed taking in the serenity of the trees, flowers and birds. She sponsored and loved a child, Gilberto, through the Children’s International Fund.
She is survived by one son, Michael F. Foley of So. Fallsburg; two daughters, Noreen Fonnesbeck and her husband, Steven, of Fredricksburg, Va., and Eileen Foley of Johnson City; one granddaughter, Courtney V. Fonnesbeck of Fredricksburg, Va.; and a niece, Linda Rusthoven of Carmel, Ind.
She was predeceased by two of her children, Patrick and Christine.
The family will warmly accept flowers, or contributions may be made in Joan’s memory to the Corpus Christi Monestery, 1230 Lafayette Ave., Bronx, NY 10474 or to the Children’s International Fund, (Gilberto)... P.O. Box 219055, Kansas City, MO 64121.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, August 27 at St. Peter’s Church with Father Robert Ginel officiating.
Burial followed in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Troy.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.
