Ernie Ross of Long Eddy, a heavy equipment operator for nineteen years for the town of Fremont, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 in Callicoon. He was 54.
The son of Ernest E. and Helen Metzler Ross, he was born July 26, 1953 in Ft. Hood, Killeen, Texas.
He was former chief of Long Eddy Fire Department and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his parents, Ernest and Helen Metzler Ross; his wife Sandy Neer Ross; his children, Jessica Kenyon and husband Andrew of Long Eddy, Casey Ross of Long Eddy, Emmylou Ross of Syracuse, Garrett Ross of Long Eddy and his fiancee Kira Irwin of Honesdale, Pa., Shannon Boudwin and husband Dale of Houma, La., Christopher Ross and wife Erica of Montegut, La.; one brother, Henry Ross of Equinunk, Pa.; five grandchildren, Andrew Kenyon Jr., Brooke Boudwin, Krissy, Alyssa and Gage Ross.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday, August 3 at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, 34 Upper Main St., Callicoon.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, August 4 at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in Rock Valley Cemetery, Long Eddy.

Janet L. Jankowski
Special Ed Teacher, 56
Janet L. Jankowski, a lifelong resident of Middletown, died Sunday, July 29, 2007 at ORMC’s Horton Campus in Middletown after a short illness. She was 56.
The daughter of the late Chester Kurdyla and Roberta Zelinski, she was born September 14, 1950 in Goshen.
She married Henry Jankowski on April 14, 1973 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Goshen.
Janet worked as a Special Education teacher for Orange-Ulster BOCES. Janet was a helpful and generous wife and mother who had a big heart. She was a true friend, who cared selflessly for others. Janet was a strong-willed woman who could not be persuaded to do anything she was not ready to do. Although she enjoyed cruising with her classic car and being with friends, the highlight of her life was her granddaughter, Savanna Rose.
In addition to her mother, Janet is survived by her loving husband, Henry at home; son, Andrew and his wife Kerri of Wurtsboro; and her daughter, Jo Ellen Hundeland and her husband Kenny of Bloomingburg; her treasured granddaughter, Savanna Rose; godson, Michael; five sisters, Lynne, Gail, Laura, Jamie and Lorraine and her husband Dave Raymond; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service in remembrance was held Thursday, August 2 at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., Middletown.
Cremation was private.
Evelyn Alice DeSane
Retired Waitress, 90
Evelyn Alice DeSane of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Sullivan County, and a retired waitress, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 90.
Daughter of Walter and Pauline Reynolds Munday, she was born December 30, 1917 in Brooklyn.
She was a member of the Senior Friends in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Survivors include her son, Thomas Halloran and wife, Caroline, of Poughkeepsie; daughters, Maureen Schlott and husband, Raymond, of Callicoon Center, Kathleen Halloran of Venice, Fla., Joyce Halloran and husband, Karl Mantenleks, of Narrowsburg, Sharon Mungeer and husband, Garfield, of Parksville; a stepson, Genaro DeSane of Asbury Park, N.J.; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren; a cousin, Jane Fulton of Kenoza Lake; a niece, Sharon Fix, and nephew, Mark Fix, out of state.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Joseph DeSane and Thomas Halloran; and brothers, Clinton Munday and Edward Fix.
Friends may call at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville on Sunday, July 13 from noon to 2 p.m. Services will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Kenoza Lake Cemetery in Kenoza Lake.

Anna Sandvoss, 92
Anna Lanyo Sandvoss, born February 29, 1916, formerly of Brooklyn, died June 30, 2008 in Harrisburg, Pa. after a very short illness. She was 92.
She is survived by her three daughters, Winifred DeGennaro and her husband, Raymond, of York, Pa., Virginia Samson and her husband, Norbert, of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Joan Hughs of San Jose, Calif.; her son, Gilbert Sandvoss and his wife, Barri Glick; sisters, Florence and Evelyn, both of Scranton, Pa.; many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews across the country.
She was predeceased by two daughters, Lillian and Ruth.
Cremation took place at Quer Memorial Home and Cremation Svcs., Harrisburg, Pa. at a small private ceremony.

Anne Schneider, 91
Anne Schneider, widow of Ben Schneider and formerly of Monticello, passed away in Tamarac, Florida on July 6, 2008. She was 91.
She is survived by her son, Alvin and daughter-in-law, Madelyn; daughter, Barbara and son-in-law, Mike; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by all.
Burial will be at Wellwood Cemetery in Farmingdale.
Linda Ann Williams, 50
Linda Ann Williams of Smallwood went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 5, 2008, with family at her side. She was 50.
She was born in Dover, DE on June 27, 1958 to the late Harley and Mary Taylor. Linda was employed for 17 years at Slayton Studio in Monticello.
She was educated in Ellenville, and attended Ulster County Community College.
She is survived by her loving husband of 14 years Anthony Williams at home; two brothers, William Parker of Camden, N.J. and James Parker of Huntsville, AL; one niece, Michelle Blount of Ft. Hood, TX; five nephews, Thomas Blount of Monticello, Billy Blount of Baltimore, MD; Eric, Michael, and Phillip Blount all of Ft. Hood, TX; three sisters-in-law, Elaine Williams of Monticello, Ida Williams of Hackensack, N.J., and Christine Stubbs of San Mateo, CA; one brother-in-law, Sam (Dorothy) Williams of Summerville, S.C. Linda was pre-deceased by her sister Sharon Blount, whose six children she raised as her own.

Construction Worker, 27
Kristopher R. Long of Port Jervis, a construction worker and lifelong area resident, died Sunday, July 29, 2007 at Cape Coral, Fla. He was 27.
The son of Brian and Pamelia Collette Long, he was born May 19, 1980 in Port Jervis.
Survivors include his companion, Briana Walsh of Cape Coral, Fla.; his daughter, Alexa at home; his parents, Pamelia and Brian Long of Port Jervis; his father, Steven Goble of Forestburgh; two sisters, Nicole Long of Port Jervis and Sarah Goble of Fosterdale; his maternal grandmother, Pamelia Stevens of Matamoras, Pa.; his maternal grandparents, Bob and Maryellen Stevens of Matamoras, Pa.; paternal grandmother, Adele LaBarr of Narrowsburg; paternal grandparents, Alice and Robert Long of Matamoras; his uncle, Kyle Stevens.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 3 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis. The Rev. Glenn Scheyhing will officiate.
Burial will be made in Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey.
Betty Carleo
Devoted Wife, 83
Betty Louise Carleo of Yulan, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2007 in Orlando, Fla. She was 83 years old.
The daughter of the late Carl and Bessie Corber, she was born January 23, 1924 in Atchison, Kansas.
Betty Lou was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was helpful and kind. Betty Lou was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She welcomed family and friends with hugs and kisses as they entered her home. She listened to their stories, offered advice, cooked amazing meals and made everyone feel important.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Carleo and wife Denise of Queens Village; Scott and wife, Laurie of Flushing; four daughters: Kathryn of Las Vegas, Nev., Laura and husband, Vincent of San Diego, Calif., Patricia and husband, Craig of Winter Springs, Fla., and Jennifer and husband Shawn of Pond Eddy; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Gladys Witte and Alice J. Grim also survive her.
In addition to her parents, Betty Lou was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, who passed on July 31, 2007, Sebastian F. "Buster" Carleo; one brother, Jack; two sisters, Lotus and Mary Faith; two daughters, Barbara Marie and Lisa Marie; a son-in-law, William; and a grandson, Jason.
Memorial services for Betty and her late husband, Sebastian, will take place on Saturday, September 8, at Malverne Bible Church located in Malverne and on Monday, September 10, at St. Anthony's of Padua Church located in Yulan. All are welcome to attend.
The National Cremation Society performed cremation. Burial will take place at St. Anthony's of Padua Cemetery located in Eldred, at the convenience of the family.
Eleanor Peters
South Fallsburg nurse, 87
Eleanor White Peters expired August 31st at Little Brook Nursing Home in Califon, NJ. She was 87.
Born in Highland Park, Michigan, her parents were Alfred White and Jane Evans White.
Eleanor grew up in Pequannock, N..J, and graduated from Butler High School in 1932. She took nurses training at Christ Hospital, Jersey City, and was awarded her diploma in 1941. She received her BA from Jersey City State College and MS Degree from the State University of New York in 1983.
Her long career encompassed most disciplines of nursing: practitioner’s office, clinical, industrial, and teaching at both high school and college levels. The last fourteen years of her fulfilling career were spent with the State of New York as a community mental health nurse working with mentally retarded adults in South Fallsburg. She retired in 1995.
She resided most of her adult life in Saddle River, NJ, and was active in the Historical Society and Zion Lutheran Church. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and also Sigma Theta Tau. She is listed in Who’s Who in American Women. Eleanor was a world traveler who had visited every continent and an avid antique collector and lover of nature and animals.
Eleanor (husband William J. Peters, died 1964) had two children: Susannah J. Peters, residing in Annandale, NJ; and William J. Peters, who predeceased her in 1979. She is survived by nieces: Deborah White Barry, Patricia White Ganzemueller, Alice White, Diana White, and nephew John White.
Donations in memory to: St. Hubert’s Animal Shelter, 3201 Highway 22, Branchburg, NJ 08876. Celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held Saturday, September 22, at 11:00 am at the Zion Lutheran Church in Oldwick, NJ.
