Andrew Peters
Corrections Superintendent, 67

Andrew T. Peters of Clermont, Fla., a retired Superintendent for the New York State Corrections System and a former resident of Parksville, died on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at the Hospice of Lake and Sumter in Tavares, Florida. He was 67.
The son of the late Frederick and Helen Rasch Peters, he was born October 26, 1939 in Jamaica, Queens.
Andy served in the United States Marine Corps, he retired after having worked at seventeen different facilities within thirty-four years for the New York State Department of Corrections, including Sullivan and Jefferson counties. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clermont, Fla., and he is a former member of the Watertown and South Lake Rotary Clubs.
Survivors include his wife of forty-three years, Edith Muhlig Peters, at home; one son, Brian Peters and his wife, Marlyn of White Sulphur Springs; one daughter, Sandra Porta and her husband David, of Ocoee, Fla.; three sisters, Loraine Kuebler of Callicoon Center; Barbara Festa of California; and Carol Luciano and her husband, Michael, of Ronkonkoma; three brothers, Fred Peters and his wife, Lillian, of Edison; Walter Peters and his wife, Betty, of Jeffersonville; and Raymond Peters and his wife, Maria, of Wilmington, N.C.; two grandchildren, Johnathan Peters and Emily Porta; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home West Street at Buckley, Liberty.
The Rev. Richard Guice will officiate. Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made ot the Hospice of Lake and Sumter, 12300 Lane Park Road, Tavares, Fla 32778 or the Greater Clermont Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 443, Minneola, Fla 34755.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Harris Funeral Home West Street at Buckley, Liberty.

Colleen B. Culligan
Ambulance dispatcher, 47

Colleen B. Culligan of Monticello, an ambulance dispatcher for MobileMedic in Hurleyville, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Orange Region Medical Center - Horton Campus in Middletown after a short battle with cancer. She was 47.
The daughter of Norman L. Culligan and Evelyn S. Culligan, she was born January 23, 1960 in Monticello.
She is survived by her four children of whom she was very proud: Holli, Samantha and Paige Schoonmaker, all of Monticello, and Jonathan Churley of White Lake; her fiance, Dan Churley of White Lake; her parents, Evelyn and Norman Culligan of Monticello; a brother, William D. Culligan and his wife, Janie, of Monticello; a sister, Pattilyn Nygard and her husband, Randy, of Kauneonga Lake; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends, especially those from MobileMedic.
She was predeceased by her ex-husband, Robert Schoonmaker, Sr.; a son, Robbie Schoonmaker; and a brother, Robert A. Culligan.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 6 at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 7 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello with Father Robert Ginel officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 419 East Main Street, Suite 307B, Middletown, N.Y. 10940.

Walter Baran
Ret. Telephone Installer, 88

Walter Baran, a retired telephone installer for General Telephone Co. and a longtime resident of Port Jervis, died Monday, March 19, 2007 at Elant at Goshen. He was 88.
He was born December 2, 1918 in Scranton, Pa., the son of the late George and the late Eva Michelizen Baran. Walter was the widower of Bertha "Bertie" Fairchild Baran who died January 29, 1997.
He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Port Jervis.
He is survived by a son, Robert Baran and his wife, Elizabeth of Mountaindale; a sister, Sophie Elston of Clearwater, Fla.; two grandchildren, Taralynn Fields of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Robert Baran, Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis on Friday, March 23 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 23, with a prayer at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. in St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis.
Burial will be made in St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Jervis.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Charlotte M. Wright
Retired Postal Clerk, 83

Charlotte M. Wright of Liberty, a retired postal clerk and lifelong area resident, died Saturday, March 17, 2007 at her home. She was 83.
The daughter of the late Roy C. and Alberta J. Ward Van Wagner, she was born December 26, 1923 in Liberty.
She had been employed at the Grahamsville and Neversink Post Offices, and was a member of the Golden Park Senior Citizens where she served as vice president for ten years. She was an avid reader. She was happily divorced and believed that a woman’s best friend was a book!
Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte J. Lauria and her husband, Anthony of Neversink and Bertie J. Rahill and her husband, Jim of Anderson, Calif.; a son, Timothy B. Wright and his wife, Kate of Little River, S.C.; a sister, Mildred St. Clair of Dunnellon, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, including a special grandson, Thomas and his companion, Pauline; 16 great-grandchildren; six nephews; one niece; and many wonderful friends.
She was predeceased by a son, Lee Wright.
Memorial services were held Thursday, March 22 at the Harris Funeral Home, Liberty. The Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Liberty Vol. Ambulance Corps, PO Box 105, Liberty, NY 12754.

Madeline M. Walter
Housewife, 84

Madeline M. Walter of Yulan, a housewife and longtime resident of the area, died Monday, June 18, 2007 in a car accident in Pond Eddy. She was 84.
The daughter of the late Henry and Amelia Steinmetz Meyer, she was born July 22, 1922 in New York City.
She was the widow of Donald Walter who passed away in 1993.
A family statement reads, “Madeline was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had a sharp, quick wit about her, and a great sense of humor. We are shocked that she is no longer with us; we miss her smiling face. A big part of our lives is now missing, but our memories will live on.”
Survivors include her sons, Kenneth Walter and his wife Noreen of Fort Johnson and Thomas Walter of Yulan; her daughter, Jane Walter of Niceville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Gisella Walter, Rosanna Ely and her husband, David, and Christina Knobel; two great-grandchildren, Jackie and Caleb; three step-great-grandchildren; her brother, Joseph Meyer of Eldred; her sister, Lillian Wachter of Barryville; and several nieces and nephews.
Madeline was predeceased by three brothers, Frankie, Henry and Johnny Meyer, and a sister, Catherine Warden.
Friends may call on Friday, June 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, June 23 from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home, Barryville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church in Yulan.
Burial will be made in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Eldred.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Yulan Fire Department, P.O. Box 127, Yulan, NY 12792.

Roseann L. Neves
Office Manager, 52

Roseann L. Neves of Port Jervis, a former office manager for IDS in Bridgewater, Conn. and a longtime resident of the area, entered into rest on Sunday, June 17, 2007 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, N.J. She was 52.
The daughter of the late Edward and Anna Livingston Lemke, she was born April 4, 1955 in Bridgeport, Conn.
She was the wife of David Neves, who resides at home.
She was a member of Temple Sinai in Middletown.
In addition to her husband, David, she is survived by two brothers, Paul Lemke and his wife Joy of Grahamsville and Edward Lemke of Port Jervis; two sisters, Sharon Cannon and her husband John of Wales and Catherine Lemke of Port Jervis; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Walter Lemke.
Funeral services were held at Temple Sinai of Middletown on Tuesday, June 19. Rabbi Joel Schwab officiated.
Interment followed in Temple Sinai Cemetery, Circleville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation, P.O. Box 374, Birmingham, MI 48012.

Linus F. Dwyer, 81

Linus F. Dwyer passed away June 17, 2007 in Ventura, California at the age of 81.
Mr. Dwyer was a decorated World War II veteran who was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries received in the European theater.
He moved to California in 1973 where he owned and operated a motel. He spent his retirement years living on a mesa in Carpinteria, California overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Mr. Dwyer, originally from Callicoon, is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary “Betsy”; and daughters, Betsy Butler of Davis, California and Leslie Dwyer of Santa Monica, California.
Arrangements were made by McDermott-Crockett Mortuary, Santa Barbara, California.

Kathleen Piacentino
Homemaker, 58

Kathleen A. Piacentino of Middletown, a longtime area resident, died Saturday, June 16, 2007 at home with her loving family by her side. She was 58.
The daughter of the late James J. and Ann Funaro Wilson, she was born January 15, 1949 in the Bronx.
She married her beloved husband, Robert, on September 30, 1967 in the Bronx. Together they moved into the area in 1976 to raise their family.
A family statement reads, “We will always remember our mom as a kind, generous, and patient woman. Our dad couldn’t have asked for a better wife. She was a loving companion and his best friend. Together they raised three beautiful children who made them both very proud. She was a great mother and terrific Noni, who lived for her grandchildren. A beautiful woman inside and out, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.”
Kathleen is survived by her husband Robert, at home; three adoring children, Robert and his wife, Christina, of Scranton Pa., Christina Rave and her husband Eric of Otisville, and Marie Rose and her husband Todd of Wurtsboro; three cherished grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as their Noni, Christopher Rave, Ethan, and Bryanna; two brothers, John Wilson and his wife, Hope, of the Bronx and James Wilson and his wife, Barbara, of Yonkers; and her sister, Penny Wilson-Balsamo and her husband, Robert, of Wurtsboro.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, June 20 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Middletown.
Burial followed in the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Middletown.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements were under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
