Charlotte S. Gardner, of Middletown and formerly of Howells for 53 years, a homemaker and lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at ORMC - Horton Campus in Middletown. She was 87.
The daughter of William and Dorothea Albrecht Cawein, she was born July 26, 1919 in the Town of Mt. Hope.
She was the widow of Russell Gardner who preceded her in death on November 16, 1977.
Charlotte was a member of the United Church of Christ at New Vernon, the Wallkill Seniors, the Happy Seniors of the Town of Wallkill and the Salvation Army Golden Agers.
She is survived by two sons, Richard W. Gardner and his wife Debbie of Norwich, Conn. and Wayne R. Gardner and his wife JoAnn of Mountaindale; five grandchildren, Erin and Steven Gardner, Melissa Rotundo and her husband, Anthony, and David and Jason Gardner; a great-grandson, Joseph Rotundo; a brother, Edward Cawein and his wife, Muriel, of Bloomingburg; one sister, Dorothy Mertz and her husband, Gerald, of the state of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Steven Gardner.
Friends may call on Friday, June 22 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove Street, Middletown.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 23 at the funeral home. The Reverend Stuart Stiles will officiate.
Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Plains Cemetery in Otisville.

David J. Marshall
Horse Driver, 63
David J. Marshall of White Lake and a 30-year resident of the area, died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 17, 2007 in Rock Hill. He was 63.
David was born in Woonsocket, R.I. on January 21, 1944 to Dorothy Mercure Marshall and the late Joseph Marshall.
David was a harness horse driver and trainer, currently at Plain Ridge Raceway in Plain Ridge, Mass. and also had driven at various other harness tracks including Monticello Raceway. He was an active member of the United States Trotting Association.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Marshall of Burrillville, R.I.; his wife, Joan Allison Marshall of White Lake; one son, Troy of Long Beach, Calif.; four brothers, Richard and his wife Muriel of Ocala, Fla., Joseph and his wife Mary of Burrillville, R.I., Robert of Attleboro, Mass., and Keith of Burrillville, R.I.; one sister, Carol Davis and her husband Ron of Kingston, R.I.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, June 22 at Ramsay’s Funeral Homes, Inc., 3534 Route 55, Kauneonga Lake.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. John Tran on Saturday, June 23 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will follow the service at Kenoza Lake Cemetery, Kenoza Lake.

Barbara P. Friedman
Homemaker, 70
Barbara P. Friedman, formerly of Liberty, died May 31, 2007 at Florida Hospital in Orange City, Fla. She was 70.
Mrs. Friedman, a homemaker, was born in the Bronx and lived in Liberty for many years before moving to Florida in 1989.
She was a member of the Council of Aging and the Red Hat Society. She was also a former member of the Liberty Ambulance Women’s Auxiliary. She loved to play bingo, read, knit, and spend time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family.
Survivors include her husband, Donald; two sons, Phillip Kolarik of White Sulphur Springs and Marc Kolarik of Deltona, Fla.; four daughters, Francine Butcher of Woodbourne, Elizabeth Failla of Cape Coral, Fla., Stacey Cherry of Deltona, Fla. and Ellen Miller of Decater, Ill.; three stepsons William, Robert, and Edward Friedman all of Sarasota, Fla.; two brothers, Earl Wunderlich of Nebraska and Walter Wunderlich of S. Carolina; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Dennis Kolarik of Woodbourne.
She was a great person and always thought of others first. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Mildred A. Cramer (nee Armstrong) of Churchville, formerly of Long Eddy, Jamestown and Ithaca, died on Tuesday, June 12, 2007. She was 98.
Dear wife of the late Roger William Cramer; beloved mother of Barbara (John) Henry and Bruce (Mary Ann) Cramer; beloved grandmother of James (Diem) Henry, Kathleen (Tom) Adair, Christy (Brad) Brewer, and Scott (Heather) Cramer; beloved great-grandmother of Taryn, Alexis, and Logan Brewer and Braden and Mason Cramer and Ryan Henry; dear aunt of June (Leo) Gildersleeve (nee Armstrong); friend of many throughout her life.
No immediate services.
Family memorial service and interment will be at the Halsey Cemetery in Long Eddy at a later date.

James “Vinny” Gargano
Retired Meat Cutter, 76
James V. Gargano of Lake Huntington, formerly of Brooklyn, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at his home. He was 76 years of age.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving in the Korean War, and was Chaplain of the Marine Corps League of Lake Huntington. He was a retired meat cutter for Waldbaum’s Markets.
He is survived by Marie Gargano, his wife of 53 years; two sons, James and his wife Fran of Las Vegas, Nev. and William and his wife Susan of Allentown, Pa.; three granddaughters, Lisa, Michelle, and Christine and her husband D.J. Florence of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a grandson, Christian, of Allentown, Pa.; and a sister-in-law, Nettie Gargano of Brooklyn.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 22 at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23 at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Route 52, Lake Huntington.

Agnes T. O’Keefe
Homemaker, 79
Agnes T. O'Keefe of Yankee Lake and Jensen Beach, Fla., left this earth on March 15, 2007 to join her daughter, Patricia, her parents, and her sisters in Heaven. She was 79.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her girls, whether at the lake, in the pool, or shopping. She cherished the precious little time she had with her granddaughters.
She is survived by John, her devoted husband of 57 years, and her heartbroken family, Kathleen and Charles Miscioscio, Elleen and Harold Decker, Joan O'Keefe and John Johnston, Theresa O'Keefe and Bill Crawford, and Agnes and Travis Palmer. She also leaves behind the loves of her life, her two granddaughters, Nicole Godfrey and Janelle Patricia Palmer. She will also be missed by her sister-in-law, Rose Connelly, and Marty Richards, many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

Homemaker, 71
Mary A. Smith of Monroe, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at O.R.M.C., Arden Hill Campus, Goshen. She was 71.
The daughter of the late Michael and Kathleen Mahoney Murphy, she was born May 17, 1935 in the Bronx.
On May 26, 1956, she wed Lawrence W. Smith in the Bronx; together they moved to the Middletown area in 1966. After Larry's death in 1989, Mary relocated to the Monroe area where she became a member of Sacred Heart Church.
A family statement reads, "Mom was a loving mother to her children and grandchildren and was a very strong woman. She touched the hearts of many children under her care during her lifetime, and she will be missed by all."
Mary is survived by her eight children, Cathy Miller and her husband, Steve, Patty Franck and her husband, Bill, Barbara Erikson and her husband, Russell, Mary Smith and her fiance, Jack Cassidy, all of Middletown, Lawrence M. Smith and his wife, Verina of Goshen, Shawn F. Smith and his wife, Cathy of Monroe, Laura Terpstra and her husband, John of Middletown, and Vincent J. Smith and his wife, Kitty of Bloomingburg; 17 grandchildren, Dawn, Jamie, Billy, Katie, Sarah, Meghan, Ryan, Rachel, Brendan, Brett, Evan, Madison, Mackenzie, Jacqueline, Joe, Colby and Logan.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 23 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe.
Burial will follow in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery, Middletown.

Antoinette T. Cheplick
Cashier, 73
Antoinette T. "Toni" Cheplick of Roscoe, formerly of Bolivar and Olyphant, Pa., died Monday, March 19, 2007 at home after an illness. She was 73.
She was the wife of Gene Cheplick, who died in 2001. They had been married for over 45 years.
Born in Olyphant, Pa., daughter of the late Bernard and Stella Pijar Kman, she was a graduate of Olyphant High School and was a homemaker. She was employed for many years as a cashier at Great American Supermarkets and was a member of Gate of Heaven Catholic Church, St. Aloysius Parish in Roscoe. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who loved spending time with her family and friends, and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Cheplick of Lindenhurst and Richard Cheplick and wife, Denise of The Woodlands, Texas; grandson, Parker Gene Cheplick; brother, Louis and wife, Angie of Bridgeport, Conn.; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her stepsister, Marie Baranosky.
Friends may call on Friday, March 23, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the John J. Turko & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., 404 Susquehanna Ave., Olyphant, Pa.
The funeral will be Saturday, March 24 at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church on Willow Street. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
