Catherine E. LaFleur of Middletown, died unexpectedly Monday, March 26, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center at Horton, surrounded by her family. She was 80.
The daughter of the late Joseph and Harriet Dorst, she was born in Manhattan on January 24, 1927. She was the widow of Chester A. LaFleur, Sr.
She retired as a seamstress at Playtogs, Middletown. She served as Treasurer and secretary for the Mechanicstown Fire Department's Ladies Auxiallary. She was a member of the Woodmen of the World and The North Congregational Church, Middletown.
She is survived by four sons, Edward LaFleur, William LaFleur, Robert LaFleur, and Michael LaFleur, all of Middletown; two daughters, Elizabeth Coleman of Goshen and Marie Carr and her husband, Edward of Westbrookville; sixteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her three sons, Chester LaFleur, Jr., James George LaFleur, Glen Alexander LaFleur, and her sister, Theresa Zerrenner.
Memorial services will be Friday, March 30 at 2 p.m. at Morse Funeral Home, Inc., 33 Railroad Ave, Middletown with the Rev. Kenneth Wonderland officiating.
Interment will follow in Bloomingburg Cemetery.

Homemaker, 65
Lois M. Sisco of Warwick, formerly of Hillburn, died March 24, 2007 at St. Anthony's Hospital. She was 65.
Born February 17, 1942 in Suffern, she was the daughter of Douglas Mann Sr. and Mae De Freese Mann. She was married to the late Lawrence Sisco.
She is survived by her son, Douglas Sisco, Sr. and his wife, Deborah, of Warwick; eight grandchildren, Leticia Sisco of New Hampton, Kimberly Sisco of Warwick, Douglas Sisco Jr. of Warwick, Amy Sisco of Pine Bush, Roxanne Di Franco of Goshen, Rocco Di Franco of Warwick, Jake Anthony Sisco of Warwick and Sarah Sisco of Warwick; four great-grandchildren, Douglas Timothy Sisco, Kearstin Heller, Shauna Heller and Ayden MacKey; six brothers, Seeley Mann of Port Jervis, Douglas Mann Jr. of Forestburgh, Arthur Mann, Richard Mann, Willis Mann, all of the state of Florida, and Milton Mann of Warwick; three sisters, Nila Maquez of the state of Florida, Mildred Rivera of Warwick and Veronica Aviles of Albany.
A funeral service was held Thursday at the Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home.
Burial was made in Warwick Cemetery.

Bette L. Burns
Bookkeeper, 71
Bette L. Burns of Hurleyville, passed away at her home on Saturday, March 24, 2007 with family at her bedside. She was 71.
Bette was a lifelong area resident, born in Middletown on February 18, 1936 to the late John and Fay Britt Stiller. She was the widow of Roland "Buddy" Burns who passed away on December 30, 1997.
Betty was a bookkeeper at the Sullivan County Government Center in Monticello. She and her husband were instrumental in founding and directing the Celtic Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps in Monticello for many years.
She is survived by three sons, James Burns and wife, Frankie of Shelton, Wash., Ronald Burns and wife, Cindy of Fallsburg and Richard Burns and wife, Tammy of Monticello; one daughter, Patti Millspaugh and husband, Roy of Argyle; one brother, Jack Stiller and wife, Jerri of Glendale, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one son, Thomas J. Burns.
Bette's wish was that there be no visitation and private funeral services for the family following cremation at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh.

Rose M. Meddaugh of Kauneonga Lake, a lifetime area resident, died January 17, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center’s Horton Campus. She was 86.
The daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Simko Sauchuk, she was born November 5, 1920 in New York City.
Rose had worked at Jamesway Department Store in Monticello, where she was a department head. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Town of Bethel, Kauneonga Lake Sanctuary. She was an active member of the Kauneonga Lake Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary; a member of the Town of Bethel Republican Club and a worker for the Sullivan County Board of Elections. She was also an avid reader.
Survivors include two sons, Jay Meddaugh and his wife, Dorothy of Kauneonga Lake and Glenn Meddaugh of Lexington Park, Md.; four daughters, Carol Mench and her husband, Robert of Brattleboro, Vt., Mary Stratton of Monticello, Terry Epstein and her husband, Edward of Rock Hill and Marjorie Rosen of Coconut Creek, Fla.; a brother, John Sauchuk and his wife, Louise of Grahamsville; a sister, Sonia Lauferswiler and her husband, John of Alma, Ark.; thirteen grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Judith Meddaugh; her husband of 64 years, Vinton G. Meddaugh; her sister, Lillian Lilholt; her brother, Nicholas Sauchuk; her son-in-law, Robert Stratton; and her granddaughter, Deborah Stratton Feinstein.
Friends may call at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 3534 State Rt. 55, Kauneonga Lake, on Friday, January 19 from 5-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church of the Town of Bethel, Kauneonga Lake Sanctuary, Horseshoe Lake Rd., Kauneonga Lake on Saturday January 20, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Kenneth Rodgers officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Bethel.

Stanley B. Abplanalp
Ret. Fencing Contractor, 87
Stanley B. Abplanalp, a longtime resident of Hurleyville, and a two-year patient at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center, died Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was 87.
The son of the late William and Anna Huggler Abplanalp, he was born February 3, 1919 in Colchester.
Mr. Abplanalp was a retired fur dealer and fencing contractor. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served with his brother Alfred at the "Battle of the Bulge" during World War II.
He is survived by his twin sister, Shirley Hutchinson of Saratoga Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by five sisters, Ellen Bishop, Sally Curtis, Lena Mae Day, Evelyn Nannby, Grace Suslosky; and four brothers, Alfred, Frederick, Edward, and Jacob Abplanalp.
There will be no visitation.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 19 at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Liberty, with the Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiating.

Karl Lettenbichler
Retired Glass Engraver, 90
Karl Lettenbichler of Glen Spey, a longtime resident of the area, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2007 at Ellen Memorial Home, Honesdale, Pa. He was 90.
He was born June 19, 1916 in Austria.
He was the widower of the late Klara Welte Lettenbichler.
Karl was a retired glass engraver and a member of the Lumberland Seniors.
He is survived by two daughters, Cornelia Kern of Glen Spey and Christel Becher and her husband, Manfred, of the Canary Islands.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 17 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Port Jervis. The Rev. Richard Hotzler officiated.
Interment was private.
Joseph L. Scarvalone
Ret. Dental Technician, 88
Joseph L. Scarvalone of Ferndale, a retired Dental Technician and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, January 15, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris. He was 88.
The son of the late Louis and Sophia DeMotta Scarvalone, he was born January 29, 1918 in New York City.
Mr. Scarvalone was a Communicant, Eucharistic Minister and Lector at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Liberty; a Third Degree Member and Past Grand Knight of the Father Cronin Council #4768, Knights of Columbus; and a member of the Russell Sprague American Legion Post #109.
He was a graduate of Liberty High School where he played baseball, and later while serving in the U.S. Army, he played baseball for the Walter Reed Hospital Baseball Team while in training as a dental technician. He was an avid METS fan.
In a family statement, it was said, “Joe filled our hearts with love and laughter. We are deeply grateful to have been blessed with his presence in our lives for all these years. He will be missed always.”
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Frances M. Murray Scarvalone, at home; two daughters, Patricia Divver and her husband Philip of Millis, Mass. and Mary Scarvalone of France; two brothers, Albert Scarvalone of Monticello and Dr. Edward Scarvalone of Poughkeepsie; two sisters, Jeanne Scruggs of New Windsor and Lucille Hill of Newburgh; three granddaughters, Emily, Martha and Claire Divver; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday, January 19 from 4-7 p.m. at the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, January 20 at St. Peter's R.C. Church, 264 North Main Street, Liberty. Monsignor Edward Straub will officiate.
Burial with Military Honors will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery, Liberty.

Lubov E. Yawdoszyn of Glen Spey, NY a longtime resident of the area, died Thursday, January 11, 2007 at her home. She was 93.
She was born November 27, 1913 in Ukraine, the daughter of the late Peter and the late Maria Lachowicz.
She was the widow of the late Walter Yawdoszyn; he died June 8, 1995.
She was a member of St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Glen Spey.
She is survived by a son, Miroslaw Yawdoszyn of Brooklyn.
She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Lachowicz
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 15, 2007 with a Liturgy Mass in St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 447 High Road, Glen Spey with Rev. Yaroslav officiating.
Burial was made in Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey.
