Margaret Peters
Retired Court Officer, 89

Margaret Norris Peters of Briscoe, a retired court officer for the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department, died February 17, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 89.
The daughter of Walter and Lillian VanDyke Lare, she was born on October 27, 1917 in Parksville.
She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Dutch Reformed Church of Youngsville.
Survivors include her two daughters, Janet Deppa and Nancy Cavanagh, both of Briscoe; her grandchildren, Ronald Deppa and his wife, Donna, of Briscoe, Peter Deppa of Briscoe, Kelli Cavanagh of Coran, Michael Cavanagh and his fiancée, Dina Pappas, of Franklin Square, Jennifer Cavanagh Delvalle and her husband, Angel, of Wappingers Falls, Debra Lewis of Swan Lake and Darlene Squires of Fulton; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Raymond Norris and late Sherwood Peters; her son, James Norris; a sister, Lillian Mall Pierson; and a brother, James Edgar Lare.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 20 at 12 noon in the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville.
Burial will be made in Laurel Hill Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville, Jeffersonville, NY 12748 or to the American Heart Association, PO Box 628, Monticello, NY 12701.

Ethel C. DeWitt
Retired Teacher, 84

Ethel C. DeWitt of New Paltz died Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Kingston Hospital, Kingston, after a brief hospital stay. She was 84.
She was born August 29, 1922 in Woodbourne, the daughter of the late Fred and the late Laura (Kless) Caston. She was the widow of Sterling "Dutch" DeWitt.
Mrs. DeWitt was retired from the Kingston City School District where she taught at the Bonticou School in Rifton. She loved animals and her beloved dachshund, Megan.
She is survived by two cousins, Gertrude Mentnech Cross of Ft. Pierce, Fla. and Ann Gregory O'Neill of Manchester, NH; a brother-in-law, Ralph DeWitt of Queensbury; Donna LaPolt of New Paltz, Nancy Saunders of New Paltz and Vero Beach, Fla., Patricia Halprin of Loch Sheldrake, Raymond Renno Cross of Florida, Roxanne Lang of Florida, Lee DeWitt of Nevada, Richard DeWitt of Mass., David DeWitt of New Hampshire; and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, former students and good friends.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, February 21 at Copeland Funeral Home, 162 So. Putt Corners Rd., New Paltz.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 22 at the funeral home with the Rev. Dorothy Caldwell of the New Paltz United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will follow in Lloyd Cemetery, 841 New Paltz Rd., Highland.

Dorothy Goldbach
Retired Secretary, 87

Dorothy Goldbach of Middletown, formerly of Queens, died in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at the St. Theresa’s Nursing Home in Middletown. She was 87.
The daughter of the late William Rademacher and Meta Tietjen, she was born October 17, 1919 in Queens. She was married to her loving husband of 49 years, William Goldbach, who predeceased her on March 2, 1992.
Mrs. Goldbach was a retired secretary and an accomplished fashion model during her life. She was a charter member of the Berkley Township Ambulance Corps of New Jersey, and a devout member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, Berkley Township, NJ.
She is survived by her beloved sister, Margaret Striano and her husband, Ralph, of Wurtsboro.
Burial was made privately Saturday, February 17 in the Whiting Memorial Park, in Tom’s River, NJ.
Arrangements were under the direction of VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Wurtsboro.

Rita L. Frouman
Retired Nurse, Teacher, 81

Rita L. Frouman of Tampa, Fla. died Tuesday, December 5, 2006. She was 81.
Mrs. Frouman was born in New York and lived in Sullivan County before moving to Tampa in 1972. She was an elementary school teacher and later became a registered nurse.
During WWII she served in the Women's Army Corps. She was a member of the Albert Aronovitz Jewish War Veterans, Post #373.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 55 years, Max; a son, Dr. Cary Frouman; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in December at Segal Funeral Home, Tampa, Fla. with Rabbi Sydney Hoffman officiating.
Interment with full military honors was held at Florida National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish War Veterans of the USA, Post 373, c/o Peter Stark, 4511 W. Leone Street, Tampa, FL. 33629.

John Yuen
Chef, 88

John "Johnny" Yuen, a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at Campbell Hall Healthcare Center. He was 88.
Johnny was born October 11, 1918 in China and moved to the United States at a young age.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Merchant Marine. He worked as a chef at Grossinger's Hotel in Liberty for over 30 years.
A family statement reads, "He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He will never be forgotten and will always be in our hearts."
Survivors include his beloved wife, Sio Lien, at home; one son, John Yuen and his wife, Donna, of Clifton Park; two daughters, Maeying Groleau of Coconut Creek, Fla. and Maelien Spina and her husband, Jay, of Middletown; and two granddaughters, Chelsea Spina and Kendall Spina.
He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Charles "Chuck" Groleau.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the family plot in Wallkill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 419 E. Main St., Middletown, NY 10940.
Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.

Jaroslaw Sypko
Retired from ICI Americas, 86

Jaroslaw Sypko of Patterson, retired from ICI Americas in Bayonne, NJ, and a former resident of Glen Spey, died Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel. He was 86.
He was born December 9, 1920 in Ukraine, the son of the late Wasyl and the late Rose Sypko.
Mr. Sypko was a member of St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Glen Spey. He was a World War II veteran of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Slobodian Sypko, at home; two sons, Roman Sypko and his wife, Stacey, of Patterson and Ihor Sypko and Helen Connor of Imlaystown, NJ; a brother, Nicholas Sypko in Ukraine; a grandson, Andrew Sypko of Patterson; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 20 with a Liturgy Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Glen Spey, with the Rev. Yaroslav Kostyk officiating.
Burial will be made in Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Hamptonburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Glen Spey, NY 12737.
Funeral arrangements are by the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Port Jervis.

Ora Mae Hadley
Ret. Nurses' Aide, 79

Ora Mae Hadley of Ellenville, a retired nurses' aide at the Ellenville Hospital, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at the Kingston City Hospital following a long illness. She was 79 years of age.
The daughter of the late William and Harriet Sherman Clark, she was born February 1, 1922, in Kerhonkson. She was the widow of George Hadley Sr.
Mrs. Hadley was a member of the Ellenville United Methodist Church.
In a family statement, it was said, "Mom was a very caring individual, always looking out for others. She loved her family and friends unconditionally and always looked for the good in everyone. Mom suffered a stroke at an early age which left her disabled for many years. She had a steadfast faith in God. Mom enjoyed watching church on television and listening to Christian music. Her predeceased son, George Hadley Jr., was a 1976 graduate of Multnomah School of the Bible and wrote in one of his papers, 'The believer can stand before the hostility of the world and know that he shall see no death for the Lord has gone before him and cleared the way, even to taste death Himself.' Mom has just begun her eternal life."
She is survived by four daughters, Bonnie Estela Hadley and Goldie Hadley, both of Ellenville, and Melody Hadley and Georgianna Lepke, both of Neversink; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two cousins, David Hadley of Massachusetts and Edward Hadley.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Ellenville United Methodist Church, Canal Street, Ellenville, with the Rev. Walter Steinard officiating.
Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Multnomah School of the Bible, 8435 N.E. Glisan St., Portland, Oreg. 97220 in memory of Mrs. Hadley or her son, George.

Everett Kleingardner, 55

Everett E. "Cody" Kleingardner of Kauneonga Lake, a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Kingston Hospital in Kingston. He was 55 years of age.
The son of the late Everett Kleingardner and Irene Kleingardner Inman, he was born March 24, 1946, in Livingston Manor.
He is survived by three brothers, Elzie Inman of Kauneonga Lake, Joseph Inman of Mission, Tex., and Albert Inman of Ellenville; two sisters, Elaine Vandermark of White Lake and Cathy Kimble of Liberty; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his step-father Elzie W. Inman.
Friends may call at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl St., Livingston Manor, on Sunday from 4-7 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Monday with Pastor Dorothy Smith officiaitng.
Burial will be made in the Beaverkill Cemetery in Beaverkill.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Livingston Manor Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 1, Livingston Manor, N.Y. 12758.
