Phyllis D. Rosen of Waymart, Pa., died at the Mid-Valley Hospital in Peckville, Pa., following an extended illness.
The daughter of the late Morris and Fanny Dubin, she was born in Philadelphia, Pa.
Mrs. Rosen spent 29 years as an educator and, prior to retirement in 1982, was a teacher in the Carbondale Area School District for IU 19.
She was a member of the Julie Thurston Library Guild and a member of both the Corinthian Club and the local bridge club.
She is survived by two daughters, Iris Lynn Rosen of Carbondale, Pa., and Jacky Rosen of Roscoe; and a brother, Steven Dubin of Springfield, Pa.
Services and burial were held in Pennsylvania.

Harrison Allen Sr.
Maintenance Man, 57
Harrison Allen Sr. of Monticello, a maintenance worker for the Apollo Mall, a lifelong musician with the Allen Brothers Band and a longtime area resident, died Saturday, December 30, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 57 years of age.
The son of James P. Allen and the late Sally Jetson Allen, he was born May 5, 1943 in Fairhope, Ala.
A member of the Masonic Lodge, he was also a member of the Bethlehem Temple Church in Fairhope, Ala, until moving to Monticello.
Mr. Allen is survived by his father of Monticello; his companion, Annie McCoy, at home; two sons, Harrison Allen Jr. and Terry Hooks Allen, both of Monticello; two daughters, Jackie Allen Powell of Monticello and Cheryl Jackson of Los Angeles, Calif.; three brothers, Oswald Allen and Cecil Allen, both of Monticello and Elder Wyan Allen of Boston, Mass; three sisters, Virginia Smith, Annie Bolden and Leona Allen, all of Monticello; nine grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Bethlehem Temple Church, Fairground Road, Monticello, with the Rev. Mervin Armstead officiating.
Burial will be made in the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.

Kostas Mitinas
Former area resident, 97
Kostas Mitinas, formerly of Fremont Center, passed away early Friday morning, April 4, 2008 at the age of 97 in Port Orange, FL.
Born August 30, 1910 in Raguva, Lithuania, he was a graduate of Vytauto University in Kaunas, Lithuania and played soccer on the Lithuanian National Team in 1930.
He married Ona Grajauskas in the mid 1930’s, and left Lithuania with his wife and family in September of 1944, to escape the Russians who had invaded the country.
They lived in a refugee camp in Rosenheim, Germany for four years, where he served as an interpreter for the refugees, since he spoke seven languages.
He immigrated to the United States (New Jersey) in March of 1949, and moved to a farm in Fremont Center, in April, 1954, with wife, Ona, daughter, Vikki (Violetta) and son, Garry (Gediminas).
He continued working at Lever Brothers in Edgewater, NJ until he retired in 1975, then moved to Port Orange, FL in 1999.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ona, and daughter, Vikki. Survivors include his son, Garry of Poughkeepsie; daughter-in-law, Carole; granddaughter, Lauren of New York City, and step granddaughter, Melissa Egan of Poughkeepsie.
Friends may call on Wednesday, April 9, at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, 34 Upper Main St., Callicoon, (845-887-4900), from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, at St. Mary's Church, County Rd 95, Obernburg, with Father Gus Richardson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Obernburg.

Timothy E. "Tim" Hill
Commissioner, 53
On Sunday, April 20, 2008, Timothy "Tim" E. Hill, of Woodbourne, passed away peacefully in his loving wife, Chris's arms at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus, after a long illness. He was 53.
The son of the late Floyd J. and Barbara G. Galloway Hill, he was born on September 15, 1954 in Liberty.
As a child, Tim was an Eagle Scout. He was the Democratic Commissioner for the Board of Elections; a Past President of the New York Board of Elections Association; a member of the Executive Committee; Democratic Chairman of Sullivan County; a member of the Tri-Valley Lions; the Hudson Valley Antique Bottle Club; Woods Pond Rod and Gun Club; Beaverdam Hunting and Fishing Club; and a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Tim was also a member of the Woodbourne Fire Department where he started the Annual Pancake Breakfast every February and an avid Antique Flask Collector.
A Family Statement reads, "Tim" was a quiet but determined man, a devoted and loving husband who was very dedicated to his family, friends, and the Democratic Party. He never complained and was very heroic throughout his illness."
"Tim" was someone who loved so many especially his loving wife of 28 years. Tim leaves behind his wife, Chris at home; his mother-in-law, Julia Ognan of Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Peter Ognan of Conn.; two aunts, Frances Hill of Grahamsville and Jenny Slowick of Ariz.; two uncles, Peter Lagonowicz of N.J. and Walter Lagonwicz of Fla.; and two cousins, Carolyn Hill and Donna Conklin and her husband, Steve all of Grahamsville.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, April 24, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Woodbourne.
Interment followed at the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery, Grahamsville.

Graveside services for Vera Bernhardt Reilly, who died on February 2, 2008, will be held on Saturday, May 3 at 11 a.m. at the Kenoza Lake Cemetery.
Rene Ilaria
Homemaker, 86
Rene Ilaria of Liberty and New Windsor, died April 23, 2008 at the Kaplan Residence of the Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties. She was 86.
Rene was born in Hell’s Kitchen on February 8, 1922 where she lived and worked as a draper in the fashion industry until moving to New Windsor in 1959. Rene was the oldest child with three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her two sisters, Norma and Doris Daglia of Punta Gorda, Fla.
Rene was a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by two children, Gioia Scoppa and her husband, Edward, of Punta Gorda, Fla., Gerard Ilaria and his partner, Steven Wilkinson, of Liberty; two grandchildren, Marisa Sagarese and her husband, Edward, of Port Charlotte, Fla., Edward “Duke” Scoppa and his wife, Lisa, of New York City; two great-grandchildren, Ella and Edward “Eddie Boy” Sagarese.
Rene was loved by many friends from her years in New Windsor and from her recent relocation to her son’s home in Liberty. She was a fixture in Livingston Manor working at her son’s business, Catskill Morning Farm, and helping with the Trout Parade, Renaissance Project and Aileen Gunther’s campaign.
One of Rene’s well known sayings was “Goodbye and Good Luck.” Join us as we say goodbye to this wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Visitation will be 9 – 11 Saturday, April 26 at Brooks Funeral Home in Newburgh.
Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetary in New Windsor.

Marilyn A. Grimball
Certified Nursing Assistant, 67
Marilyn A. Grimball, a 40-year resident of Liberty, died at her home on Sunday, April 19, 2008 with her loving family at her bedside. She was 67.
Marilyn was born in Limon, Costa Rica on January 14, 1941.
She was a Certified Nursing Assistant, working at Catskill Regional Medical Center for 38 years and Achieve Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility for 26 years.
She is survived by one son, Ricardo G. Grimball of Liberty; one daughter, Brenda Facy and husband George of Monticello; three grandchildren, Latanya Lee, of Livingston Manor, Rajhan Lee, of NYC, and Collin Lee of Middletown; and three great-grandchildren, Jerome Brown, Khapri Simon, and Kimoni Stephens, all of Livingston Manor.
Visitation will be held at Ramsay’s Funeral Homes, Inc., 275 South Main Street, Liberty on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 8:30 p.m.
Cremation will be at the family’s convenience at Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh.

Kenneth G. Redard, Jr.
Heavy Equip. Operator, 21
Kenneth G. Redard, Jr., a lifetime resident of Hankins, died on Saturday, April 21, 2008, in Hankins. He was 21.
The son of Kenneth G. Redard Sr. and Sharon Litchhult Redard, he was born on May 9, 1986 in Honesdale, Pennsylvania.
He was a heavy equipment operator for Redard Excavating in Hankins and the plant operator for the Sipple-Redard Gravel Bank in North Branch.
Survivors include his parents, both of Hankins, and one sister, Louann Redard, of Brooklyn.
Friends may call on Friday, April 25, at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon, from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 26, at 11 a.m. Pastor Peg VanSiclen will officiate.
Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family.
