Loving grandmother to Barbara, Debbie, Jonathan, David, Susan and Brian.
Great grandmother to her beautiful nine great grandchildren.
David Schenkler
Owned K & S Wholesalers, 82
David Schenkler, 82, former owner for over 40 years of K&S Wholesalers in Liberty, passed away at his home in Lake Worth, Florida on Wednesday, April 2, 2008.
The son of the late Dora and Max Schenkler, he was born August 12, 1925 in Monticello. David was a lifelong member of the Liberty Elks Club.
He is survived by his daughter Susan Nevins and her husband, Shelly, from Greenacres, FL; son Shel Schenkler and his wife, Lisa, of Franklin, MA; six grandchildren, Brad Nevins, Cary Nevins, Deija Nevins, Marc Nevins, Jillian Schenkler and Hayley Schenkler; and 4 great grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Kimberly and Jake Nevins. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Irene Schenkler.
Burial was on Friday, April 4 at Eternal Light Cemetery, in Boynton Beach, FL.
Harriet K. Ahlberg
Ret. Bookkeeper, 81
Harriet K. Ahlberg of Lake Katrine, a retired bookkeeper for New Paltz Central Schools, died Monday, January 1, 2001, at her home in Ten Broeck Commons in Lake Katrine. She was 81 years of age.
The daughter of the late Walter A. and Frances Smith Kilmer, she was born July 9, 1919, in North Tarrytown.
Mrs. Ahlberg was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Brannen Van Den Berg Post No. 8645, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the AARP and the United Methodist Church, all in New Paltz.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest B. Ahlberg, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Christine B. Ahlberg and Russell Bogie of Liberty; a brother, Alfrederick Kilmer of Spring Hill, Fla.; a sister, Edith Baker of Connecticut; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Jack Kilmer, and a sister, Minnie Barrett.
Friends may call on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Copeland Funeral Home, 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Rolland French officiating.
Burial will be made in the New Paltz Rural Cemetery.

Paul J. Cawley
Ret. Teacher, 70
Paul J. Cawley of Liberty, a retired teacher for the Liberty Central School District and a 45-year area resident, died at his home on Saturday, December 30, 2000. He was 70 years of age.
The son of the late John P. and Catherine Mc Andrew Cawley, he was born November 17, 1930, in Scranton, Pa.
He graduated from Dunmore High School. Leaving college to serve with the U.S. Army in the Korean War, he returned to East Stroudsburg University and earned a BA degree. He received a Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision from New York University.
His forty-year teaching career began in 1954 at the Liberty Elementary School, teaching mainly the sixth grade. He had also taught fifth grade and was head teacher at the White Sulphur Springs Elementary School. Mr. Cawley was treasurer of the Liberty Faculty Association. He also was a teachers' union representative, acted as an alternate delegate for the New York State United Teachers and later served as a liaison to the local association of retired teachers.
Mr. Cawley worked as an interpretive ranger for the U.S. Park Service at the Upper Delaware National Scenic and Recreational River. He was the first director at Lake Superior Park in the Town of Bethel and was also a director of the Volunteer Literacy Program at Sullivan Correctional Facility.
A member of St. Peter's Church in Liberty, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Father Cronin Council #4768, the Liberty Elks Lodge No. 1545, Russell D. Sprague Post No. 109, American Legion, and the Clarence Hoyt Post No. 9217, Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Liberty, and the Retired Teachers Association of Sullivan County.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Celeste Radle Cawley, at home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Kay and Joseph Eckenrode of Lancaster, Pa., Patrice and Stewart Chester of Rock Hill and Bridget and Brian Bidonde of Buffalo; four grandchildren, Devon Chester and Madeline, Peter and John Eckenrode; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marietta and Joseph Forster of Fredericksburg, Va.; a nephew and two nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Wednesday at St. Peter's Church in Liberty with Monsignor Edward Straub officiating.
Burial was made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.
Anna Koenig
Ret. Secretary, 95
Anna Koenig of Callicoon, a retired secretary for Doubleday Book Publishing Co., died Friday, December 29, 2000, at the Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in Brookhaven. She was 95 years of age.
The daughter of the late George and Caroline Mueller Koenig, she was born November 29, 1905, in Brooklyn.
Miss Koenig was a member of Holy Cross Church, the Holy Cross Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of America, all in Callicoon. She was a former member of the Delaware Valley Senior Citizens.
She is survived by a nephew, Harold Sandin of Callicoon; two nieces, Pauline Lorenz of Ridgewood, Queens, and Loretta Moore of Saugerties; and nine grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Thursday at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon with Father Ignatius Smith, O.F.M., officiating.
Burial was made in Holy Cross Cemetery in Callicoon.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Church, Callicoon, N.Y. 12723.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon.
Andrew V. LaPolt III
Retired teacher, 68
Andrew Valentine LaPolt III, a lifetime area resident, died unexpectedly on Friday December 21, 2007. He was 68.
Born in Monticello October 19, 1939, he was the son of the late Andrew Valentine LaPolt Jr. and Irene LaPolt.
He graduated from Monticello High School and went on to obtain his B.S. in Industrial Arts from Oswego State and his M.S. in counseling at Oneonta State.
He had a long career as a teacher, guidance counselor, and administrator, retiring in 2001.
He enjoyed the political arena, recently running for the Board of Town Trustees and serving as Bethel Town Councilman.
Andrew was past President and Secretary of the Bethel Lions and President of the White Lake Fire Company.
He enjoyed singing in the Sullivan County Community Chorus.
As a youth he obtained his Eagle Scout rank and participated in scouting activities with his grandsons.
Hobbies included cooking, gardening, woodworking and storytelling.
He loved spending time with his family and vacationing.
He leaves behind his beloved, Nancy Schrader; son, Andrew LaPolt IV and wife, Richelle; daughters, Cynthia Roberts and husband, Jeffrey, Colleen LaPolt, Christine Groleau and husband, Thomas, and Cathleen Buff and husband, Bernard; grandchildren, Kyle, Andrew V, Derek, Jeremy, Olivia, Tucker, Angelene, Ryan, Claudia, Maeve, and Anika; sister, Karen LaPolt and husband, Kenneth; sister-in-law, Anne LaPolt; nephews, Bruce LaPolt Jr., and Brian LaPolt and wife, Talia. He had also welcomed as part of his family, Lisa Pietrucha and husband, Artie, Chan Edwards and wife, Kelly, Kim Pazzuti and husband, John; grandchildren, Tanya, Robert, Madison, Devin, Chandler, Morgan; and great-grandson, Brandon.
He was predeceased by brother, Bruce LaPolt and grandson, Corey LaPolt.
Funeral services were held on Thursday December 27 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, Kauneonga Lake.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions to The Bethel Lions Club or the White Lake Fire Department in Andrews’s name.

Vernon R. Kopf, 64
Highland General Store owner
Vernon R. Kopf of Eldred, NY, owner of Highland General Store, and longtime resident of the area, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center Horton Campus in Middletown, N.Y.
He was 64.
The son of the late William Henry and Irma Seck Kopf, he was born on February 23, 1943, in Englewood, N.J.
He was married to Monica Crance Kopf for 40 years, who survives.
Vernon was a board member of the Sullivan County BOCES.
He also served on the Highland Town Board for eight years, was a member of the Antique Auto Association and also a NRA member.
Survivors include his wife, Monica Crance Kopf, at home; two sons, Franz-Eric Kopf and his wife, Judy, of Eldred and Christopher Edward Kopf of Bellingham, Wa., one granddaughter, Morgan and one grandson, Brendan.
Friends are invited to call on Friday, December 28, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home, Route 97, Barryville, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst will officiate.
Burial will take place in Montoza Cemetery, Eldred, N.Y.
