Founder, K-Brand Farms, 84
Meyer Kaplan of Woodridge entered into eternal rest at home with his family on Sunday, January 28, 2007. He was 84.
The son of Hyman and Ida Kaplan, he was born June 8, 1922 in Harris. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Dorothy.
A veteran of WWII, he served in the 3rd Division Marines at Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, and China. He and his wife, Dorothy, founded K-Brand Farms and Egg University in Glen Wild. Meyer received the first United Egg Producers Government Relations Award. He was a member of the Inter-County Board of Directors and served terms as its President. He was a Commander of the Woodridge Memorial Post of the V.F.W., a Friend of the Department of Agriculture and Animal Science of Cornell University, and a Committeeman and member of the Agriculture Program Committee of the Cornell Cooperative Extension. He was a member of Congregation Anshei, Glen Wild.
He is survived by four sons, Robert Kaplan and his wife, Merryl, of Glen Wild, Bruce Kaplan and his wife, Sondra, of Haines City, Fla., Phil Kaplan and his wife, Anne, of Glen Wild, and Karl Kaplan and his wife, Ellen, of Clifton Park; grandchildren, Heather Margulies and her husband, Allen, Amy Kaplan, Alan Kaplan and his wife, Dawn, Heather Marin and her husband, Steven, Edward Kaplan and his wife, Eryn, Jamie Kaplan, Randi Kaplan, Nicole Feller, Rachel Feller, Matthew Kaplan and Joshua Kaplan; great-grandchildren, Sierra Kaplan, Kaylee Feller, Steven Marin, and Samuel Margulies; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Wednesday at Congregation Anshei Glen Wild Cemetery. Rabbi Irving Goodman officiated.
Shiva will be held at the home of Robert and Merryl Kaplan in Glen until Friday, February 2.

David A. Schreiber
David A. Schreiber of Loch Sheldrake passed away Sunday morning, January 28, 2007. He was 63.
He was born October 1, 1943 in Queens, and has been a resident of Loch Sheldrake since 1977.
He was predeceased by his father, George Schreiber; his mother, Ida "Emily" Schreiber; and a sister, Barbara Schreiber.
David was a warm and gentle person who will be missed and remembered by his many friends in the local area.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, N.J., with Rabbi Wolf officiating.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, February 4, 2007 at 3 p.m. at his home.

Frieda Proyect
Partner, Proyect’s Fish Mkt., 88
Frieda Proyect of Delray Beach, Fla., formerly of South Fallsburg, passed away January 27, 2007 after a short illness. She was 88.
Frieda was born June 8, 1918 in New York City, but moved to the Catskills as a young child after her father died. Her mother worked as a cook in the resort hotels for many years. Frieda spent much of her life in South Fallsburg.
She married Beryl Proyect in 1952 and quickly became his partner in Proyects’ Fish Market, working long hours serving the kosher community in the Cat-skills. On Friday mornings, the store was filled with the aroma of fresh gefilte fish and chicken soup cooking on a stove in the front of the shop that Frieda had installed, which allowed her to keep Shabbat and serve her customers all day long.
Frieda was an active member of the Sisterhood of the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association, and a longtime member of Hadassah. In later years, Beryl and Frieda retired to Delray Beach, Fla. along with much of their extended family.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Beryl; her sons, Mitchell Proyect and wife, Debbie, of Warrenton, Ore., and Joel Proyect and wife, Deborah of Parksville; grandchildren, Dana Sadaka and husband, Nicholas, of Plantation, Fla., and Nancy Proyect and husband, Bill Webber, of Cornwall-on-Hudson; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Nicholas, Elizabeth and Will; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends, including her dear friend, Helen Kaplan.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, Monticello. Rabbi Irving Goodman officiated.
Burial was made in South Fallsburg Hebrew Association Cemetery, Glen Wild.

Frank W. Gloor
Poultry Farmer, 91
Frank W. Gloor of Cochecton, a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, died Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Wayne Woodlands in Waymart, Pa. He was 91 years of age.
The son of the late Rudolph and Clara Brown Gloor, he was born November 23, 1915 in Bethel.
He was a self-employed poultry farmer in Bethel, and a member of the Pilgrim Holyness Church in Monticello.
He is survived by a brother, Fred Gloor of Clewiston, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Raymond Gloor, William Gloor, Eileen Brey, Nancy Grant, Denise Fields, Russell Gloor, Richard Gloor, Clare Kieft, Carol Newman, and Lloyd Bassney Sr. ; many grandnieces and nephews; and one special grandnephew, Lloyd Bassney Jr.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Russell Gloor; a sister, Ruth Bassney; a nephew, Gerald Gloor; and a niece, Arlene Bennett.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, February 3 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 3534 State Route 55, Kauneonga Lake.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at noon with the Rev. Paul Case officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be made in Evergreen Cemetery, Bethel.

Supervisor, 62
Terry Freeman of Greenfield Park, a 15-year resident and a supervisor for Newburgh Egg, died January 27, 2007 in Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton, Pa. He was 62.
The son of Janelle Vandegraft Roseman and the late Marvin Freeman, he was born April 5, 1944 in Avon Park, Fla.
He was a former employee of the Nevele Grande Hotel and the Fallsview in Ellenville.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Damms Freeman of Greenfield Park; his mother and his stepfather, Janelle and Wendall Roseman of Eureka, Ill.; two daughters, Gini Rutz and her husband Otto of Illinois, and Debbie Peterson of Nebraska; two stepsons, Bruce Startup and his fiance Rachel of Monticello, and Westley Startup and his wife Sabrina of Dexter; a stepdaughter, Sally Sterling and her fiancee Nianeem of NJ; three brothers, Ronald Roseman and his wife Beth of Ill., Lynn Roseman and his wife Mary Jo of Ill., and David Roseman of Ill.; a grandson, Tim Peterson of Neb.; three granddaughters, Shamara Sterling of Greenfield Park, Lalena Cagnard Startup of Sundown, and Chai-Anne of Dexter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Loucks Funeral Home, Ellenville. The Rev. Jay Vogelaar officiated.
Cremation will be made at the family’s convenience.
Ada E. Lipsey
Secretary, 74
Ada E. Lipsey of Rock Hill died Monday, January 29, 2007 at home.
The daughter of the late Neils and Clara Smith Andersen, she was born March 26, 1932 in Goshen. She was the widow of Walter C. Lipsey.
She was a secretary for the Guidance Dept. of John S. Burke Catholic High School in Goshen, and a member of the Wankasink Lake Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Ellen Saxton and her husband Daniel of Middletown, and Debra Lloyd and her husband, Michael of New Hamton; five grandchildren, Tracey, Daniel, Andrea, Benjamin and Jenna; several nieces and nephews; and very close friends, Pearl Dumont and Chickie and Ed Green.
She was predeceased by a brother, Walter Herbert Andersen.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday at St. Edward’s R.C. Church, Florida.
Burial was made in Orange County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.

John W. Neller
Retired RN, 88
John W. “Jack” Neller a 31-year resident of Masten Lake, Wurtsboro, formerly of Middletown, died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at his home. He was 88.
The son of Dr. Walter I. and Jennie May Ayres Neller, he was born July 2, 1918 in Middletown.
A retired registered nurse with Middletown Psychiatric Center in Middletown, he was a member and former deacon of the First Congregational Church; and a former member of the Iroquois Club in Eldred. He was a member of Hoffman Lodge No. 412 Free and Accepted Masons in Middletown; a member of A.A.S.R. Lodge, Council, Chapter & Consistory of the Valley of Albany; a member of the Cyprus Temple of Shriners in Albany, and the Orange County Shrine Club; and a member of the Gideons. He was an avid sportsman, including hunting, fishing and golfing.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth M. “Betty” Neller, at home; a son, Bill Neller and his wife Terry of New Boston, N.H.; a daughter, Sally Grodin and husband, Steven, of Masten Lake; four grandchildren, Christopher and Michael Neller, and Todd and Brian Grodin; and three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Sarah, and Lauryn Grodin. He was predeceased by a brother, Walter Neller.
There will be no public visitation.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 3 in the First Congregational Church, 35 E. Main St., Middletown with the Rev. Daniel J. Hogan officiating.
Interment will be made in the New Goshenhoppen Reformed Church Cemetery, East Greenville, Pa.

Retired DPW Employee, 80
Jerry T. Ward, beloved resident of Livingston Manor, passed away Monday, January 29, 2007 at home. He was 80.
The son of William Tyler and Elizabeth Edwards Ward, he was born July 28, 1926 in Livingston Manor
He was a veteran of WWII, and retired from the Sullivan County Department of Public Works Highway Department. He was a member of Hoos Truck Fire Department for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Alta Hodge Ward; a son, Carl Ward and his wife Emily; and his daughter Nancy Foley.
He was predeceased by his brother Joseph Ward.
A Firematics memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 3 at the Livingston Manor Fire House.
