Inez Gorton of Liberty, a homemaker and lifelong area resident, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, February 14, 2007. She was 99.
The daughter of the late Peter and Eldora Decker Bilyou, she was born August 22, 1907 in Willowemoc.
Inez was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church.
She was the widow of John T. Gorton who died in 1964.
In a family statement, it was said, “Aunt Inez was very special to all her nieces and nephews. She was more like a mother to us than an aunt.”
Her survivors include a special niece, Henrietta Phelps of Liberty, and several other nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, William Bilyou and Howard Bilyou, as well as four sisters, Edna Soules, Nellie Gorton, Pearl Huebsch and Eliza Miller.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 18 at 2 p.m. at the Liberty United Methodist Church, 170 N. Main St., Liberty. The Rev. Larry Powell will officiate.
Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery, Liberty.

Carmen Alicia Adams
Housekeeper, 87
Carmen Alicia Adams of Livingston Manor, a longtime resident of the area, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the age of 87.
Carmen was born in 1919 in Vieques, Puerto Rico. She moved to California in 1949.
She worked as executive housekeeper for the InterContinental Hotels in Ponce, Puerto Rico and Managua, N.G., and later at Grossinger’s in Liberty and The Homowack Hotel in Spring Glen.
She is survived by her daughter, Yolanda Aponte, and son-in-law, Anthony Risicato of Livingston Manor; her grandchildren, Claire and Gary Taggart of Livingston Manor, and Anthony and Christine Risicato of New York City; two great-grandchildren, Trever and Evan Taggart of Livingston Manor; one sister, Tita Lanzo; and two brothers, Guillermo Lanzo and Luis Lanzo; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held in the summer in her hometown of Vieques, Puerto Rico.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the non-profit charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor.
Ronald C. Beseth
Ret. Equipment Operator, 76
Ronald C. Beseth, a lifelong Liberty resident, died Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 76.
The son of Fred and Evelyn Rohrback Beseth, he was born on June 24, 1930 in Liberty. He was the widower of Myrtle Decker Beseth, who died January 9, 1979.
He was a retired equipment operator for the Town of Liberty Highway Dept. and was a member of the Liberty Fire Department’s Hose & Truck Co. #2.
Survivors include his three daughters, Sherri Rhyne and her husband, Jed of Mongaup Valley, Darlene Page and her husband, Eli of Livingston Manor and Bonnie Beseth of Liberty; five grandchildren, Jared and Jesse Rhyne, Ryan, Miranda and Kyle Page; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Beseth and a brother, Fred Beseth.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, February 16 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty.
Liberty Fire Dept. will lead a firematic service at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 17 at 10 a.m. at Ramsay’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Rodgers officiating.
Burial will be made next to his wife at the family plot at Liberty Cemetery, Cold Spring Road in Liberty.

Lois W. Hansen
Retired Teacher, 85
Lois W. Hansen, a longtime Liberty resident and retired teacher for Liberty Central Schools, died on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Albany Medical Center in Albany. She was 85.
Born in Reading, Pa. on July 14, 1921, she was the daughter of the late David and Grace Florey Warner.
Lois was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Monticello, a member of the Sullivan County Golf and Country Club in Liberty, the Liberty Garden Club, the Beaverkill Chapter of the DAR, the Audubon Society and was a former trustee of the Liberty Public Library.
Survivors include her loving husband, George K. Hansen, at home; her daughter, Ginny Yaun and her husband, Deming, of Beacon; two grandsons, Adam and Andrew Yaun; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Trina.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, February 18 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 19 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 14 St. John Street, Monticello. The Rev. Ninon Hutchinson will officiate.
Burial will be in the family plot at Liberty Cemetery.

Ret. Sheriff's Lt., 77
Marvin William Smith of Summerville, S. C., a retired Lieutenant with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department in Monticello, died Tuesday, January 9, 2001, in a Charleston, S.C., hospital. He was 77 years of age.
The son of the late Fred and Marian Anderson Smith, he was born May 3, 1923, in Liberty.
Mr. Smith attended schools in Liberty and was of the Methodist faith. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion Post #166 in Goose Creek and the Ladson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3433.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Hill Smith, and a daughter, Lori Smith Legg, both of Summerville, S.C.; two brothers, Bernard Smith of Margate, Fla., and Leslie Smith of Monticello; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel in Summerville, S.C.
Burial was made in the Whispering Pines Cemetery in Moncks Corner, S. C.

Hazel Marie Finch McDoal of Gordonsville, Va., a former companion and caregiver and a former resident of Roscoe, died Monday, January 8, 2001 at the Eldercare Gardens Nursing Home in Charlottesville, Va. She was 79 years of age.
The daughter of the late Floyd D. and Emma Shaver Finch, she was born May 21, 1921, in Roxbury.
A graduate of Hunter/Tannersville High School in Hunter, N.Y., she also graduated from the National Business College in Charlottesville, Va. Mrs. McDoal was a former member of the Roscoe PTA, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Rockland Hose Co., and St. Aloysius Altar and Rosary Society.
In a family statement, it was said, "The family would like to thank her treating physicians and nursing staff at the University of Virginia Hospital, Hospice of the Piedmont and Eldercare Gardens Nursing Home as well as her close friends at Brackett's Farm."
She is survived by her former husband, Thomas F. McDoal of Roscoe; a daughter, Teresa J. Dumeier of Orange, Va.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas V. and Fran McDoal of Troy, Michael W. and Charlotte McDoal of Livingston Manor, William K. and Kathleen McDoal of Roscoe and Joseph P. and Esther McDoal of Charlottesville, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Roy and Edward Bujanovsky, Jimmy McDoal, Bill, Greg, Korri and Joseph McDoal, Chip and James Woody and Jolene Dumeier; and eight great-grandchildren, Reymond and Analeen Bujanovsky, Rodney and Michael McDoal, Damien and Samantha McDoal, Joseph Schwartz and Anthony Morgano. She was predeceased by a brother, Victor Finch, a daughter, Kathleen McDoal Bujanovsky, a son, Jon Martin McDoal and a grandson, Katan Foster.
A memorial service was held Thursday at the Preddy Funeral Home in Gordonsville, Va., with Father David Martin officiating.
Interment was made in Maplewood Cemetery in Gordonsville.

Hortense Vazquez Clifford of Rock Hill and Astoria, a former food check and cashier for the Horn & Hardart Automat Restaurant in New York City, died Monday, January 8, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 80 years of age.
The daughter of the late Armando and Violeta Granada Cruz, she was born June 23, 1920, in Tampa, Fla.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Vazquez and his wife, Monica, of Astoria, Queens, and Roy Vazquez and Gail Carrube, all of Astoria, Queens; a daughter and son-in-law, Marie Elena and Andrew F. Cannella of Rock Hill; three granddaughters, Iris Anne Vazquez and Jennifer Marie Vazquez, both of Astoria, Queens, and Denise Rose and her husband, Lee Carl Ellmauer Jr., of Youngsville; two great-grandsons, Andrew Lee Ellmauer and Lee Carl Ellmauer III; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Iris Ann Clifford.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Thursday at St. Joseph's Church in Wurtsboro with Fr. Peter Medori officiating.
Burial was made in St. Michael's Cemetery in Queens.
Funeral arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.
Antoinette A. Rizzi
Ret. Bank Teller, 83
Antoinette Aprilante Rizzi of Alachua, Fla., a retired bank teller, died Sunday, January 7, 2001, at the North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 83 years of age.
The daughter of the late Carmine and Mary Aprilante, she was born September 13, 1913, in Sante Angelo DiLombardi, Italy.
Mrs. Rizzi was a member of St. Madeleine's Catholic Church of High Springs, Fla.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Rizzi of Monroe and Anthony Rizzi of Alachua, Fla.; a daughter, Anita Imperio of Monroe; a sister, Lucille Sybersen of LaGrange; three brothers, Anthony Aprilante of Staten Island, Silvio Aprilante of Cochecton and Eugene Aprilante of Brooklyn; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Tuesday at St. Madeleine's Catholic Church in High Springs, Fla.
Interment was made in Forest Grove Cemetery in Alachua, Fla.
