Rita M. Simpson
Homemaker, 73

Rita M. Simpson of Liberty, a lifelong area resident, died Monday, December 25, 2006 at her home. She was 73.
The daughter of the late Albert G. and Margie Keator McArthur, she was born December 12, 1933 in Liberty.
She had been an employee of Liberty Lanes, and the Harris and Ferndale Post Offices, and was a member of the Livingston Manor American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Delmont R. Simpson, at home; two sons, Robert R. Simpson and his wife, Kathy, of Liberty and David G. Simpson of Liberty; one sister, Madeline Tuttle of Parksville; two grandchildren, Cassey Knack and Malinda Simpson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Tuttle; and a brother, Alfred J. McArthur, in 1998.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Harris Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiating.
Burial was made in Rural Cemetery, Grahamsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550 or to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Swan Lake Fire Company, Swan Lake, NY 12783.

Brendan Weiss Jordan
Infant, 3 mos.

Brendan Weiss Jordan of Liberty, the infant son of Joseph M. Jordan and Patricia Weiss, died at his home on Thursday, July 19, 2007. He was 3 months of age.
He was born April 26, 2007 in Harris.
He is survived by his father, Joseph Jordan of Woodridge; his mother, Patricia Weiss of Liberty; his stepmother, Sunshine Hernandez of Loch Sheldrake; his stepfather, Richard Margarum of Liberty; his paternal grandparents, Susan and Troy Taurino of Woodridge; his maternal grandmother, Terry Weiss of Kauneonga Lake; his maternal grandfather, Robert Swendsen of Florida; his brother, Timouthy Jordan of Loch Sheldrake; a sister, Destany Merola of Liberty; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 23 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home in Kauneonga Lake. James Kaufman officiated.
Burial was made in Fallsburg Cemetery, South Fallsburg.

Phyllis Schneider
Homemaker, 62

Phyllis Schneider of Mountaindale, formerly of Bloomingburg, died Friday, July 20, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. She was 62.
The daughter of the late Nathan and Blanche Galitzky, she was born March 21, 1945 in the Bronx.
Phyllis was a woman of faith who was grateful for each day of her life. She enjoyed bible study and her church fellowship. A devoted grandmother, she found great joy in her girls. Her kindness extended to the many animals she cared for, even strays that found their way to her home.
She was the loving wife of Benjamin Schneider who survives her at home; beloved mother to Jennifer and her husband, Andrew; a doting grandmother to Brittany, Chelsea and Zoe; one brother, Jeffery Galitzky; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Galitzky.
Cremation was private.
A memorial service was celebrated Monday at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., Middletown. The Rev. Leander Hall of First Church of God officiated.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Arthur Wright
Retired Toolmaker, 79

Arthur Wright of Beach Lake, Pa., a retired toolmaker and longtime resident of the area, died Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Mercy Hospice in Scranton, Pa. He was 79.
The son of the late Sam and Perna Jones Wright, he was born August 23, 1927 in Missouri.
Survivors include his son, Arthur J. Wright and his wife, Donna, of Beach Lake, Pa.; his daughter, Karen Wright and her fiancee, David Barnes, of Beach Lake, Pa.; two grandsons, Matthew and Joshua Wright; four brothers, Marvin, John, Robert and Conrad; two sisters, Wanita and Carol; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a grandson, John Wright.
Services will be private, at the convenience of the family.
Cremation was made at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel, Pa.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice, 746 Jefferson Ave., Scranton, PA 18505
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg.

Rebecca Warren, 35

Rebecca Lee Warren of Harris, a longtime area resident, died Friday, July 20, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris. She was 35.
The daughter of Peter W. and Mary Jo Turgeon Warren, she was born March 27, 1972 in Suffern.
Becky loved music, the outdoors, and the company of her close friends and family.
Survivors include her parents, Peter and Mary Jo Warren of Suffern; one sister, Kimberly Gulino and her husband, Carl of Waldwick, N.J.; her paternal grandmother, Winifred Porass of Hackettstown, N.J.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Harris Funeral Home, Liberty. The Rev. Annie Green officiated.
Burial will be made at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 24 in the Airmont Lutheran Cemetery, Suffern.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Discovery Endowment Fund, Benmoshe Road, PO Box 840, Harris, NY 12742.

Leslie A. Covart Sr.
Retired Laborer, 76

Leslie A. Covart Sr. of White Lake, a retired laborer with Local 17 and a lifelong resident of the area, passed in peace Thursday, July 19, 2007 at home. He was 76.
He was born July 16, 1931 in Bethel to the late Robert and Marie Rouff Covart.
Leslie served his country as a PFC in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving at the Chosan Reservoir, Korea. He received two Purple Heart awards for wounds he sustained. He was an avid hunter and was affectionately known as “Santa Claus” to local fire companies, including Smallwood-Mongaup Valley, Kauneonga Lake, and White Lake, for his volunteer work during the holidays. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 1181 of Middletown, and chairman of the Conservative Party in Bethel. He served on the Zoning Board of Appeals.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hazel Hill Covart; his children, Leslie A. Covart Jr. and fiancé Fran Barry of Smallwood; Debbie Causer and husband Pete of Ft. Plain; Jerry Covart Sr. and fiancé Gina Han of Port Jervis; and Valerie L. Fellenzer and husband Mark of Middletown; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Alan Covart; and sisters, Carol Galietta and Susan Gabriel.
Leslie was predeceased by his brothers, Leland Bernhardt, Jimmy Covart, Pete Covart, and Donald Covart; and sisters, Loretta Engelman and Grace Mullen.
Cremation was made at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh.
Burial of the cremains will be made privately, in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Liberty.
Arrangements were entrusted to Ramsay’s Funeral Home, Inc., Kauneonga Lake.

Frank McFadden

Frank McFadden of Monticello and Brooklyn died July 19, 2007.
He was the beloved son of Lori-Ann and Mathew Von Oesen; loving brother to Toni Ann and Kalei; cherished grandson of Billy and Marietta McFadden; devoted nephew to Michael and Jackie McFadden; adored by fiancee Nicole Snowden and (Jahshine Diaz). He will be deeply missed by his cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
A funeral Mass was held Monday, July 23 at Most Precious Blood R.C. Church.
Interment was made in Resurrection Cemetery.

Robert Lloyd Kearney
Ret. NYC Police Officer, 93

Robert Lloyd Kearney of Dewey, Ariz. and formerly of Goshen, passed away Friday, July 6, 2007.
He was born Dec. 13, 1913 in Manhattan. His family hailed from County Armagh, Ireland.
He was a New York City policeman for 33 years, retiring as a lieutenant from the 13th precinct in Manhattan in 1974. Robert served in World War II under General Patton and in the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the U.S. Army. He was a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient, as well as other honors and citations.
Bob raised his family in Goshen. He was past president and an active member of the Lions Club there, as well as a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge in Middletown for many years. His love of the outdoors was fulfilled by his building the house at Wolf Lake (“the lake”) in Sullivan County in the early 1950s, where the family spent all summers growing up and gathered until the 1990s.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret E. (nee Stewart) of 53 years; four children, Meghan E. Keener and husband Bob of Middletown, Robert D. Kearney of San Diego, Calif., Susan M. Kearney of Prescott, Ariz., and Thomas L. Kearney of San Diego, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Colleen E. Keener of Middletown.
He was predeceased by a sister, Elsie Kearney Schmidt.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather to Colleen, and uncle. He will be dearly missed.
A celebration of his life was held at the Prescott Country Club in Dewey, Ariz.

Olga Molnar, 82

Olga T. Molnar of Harris, a longtime area resident, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, surrounded by her Otis Armstrong family. She was 82.
The daughter of the late Biliant and Catherine Molnar, she was born February 4, 1925 in Pennsylvania.
She worked in the Bistro at the Thanksgiving Farm, with Liz and Cheryl, preparing vegetables.
She endeared herself to everyone. She will be missed very much.
She is survived by her caring and loving family at the Center for Discovery, and a nephew, Gary Molnar and his wife Diane of Vineland, NJ.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25 at the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Monsignor William Collins will officiate.
Burial will be made in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs.
