Retired Logger, 87
George W. Parks of Cooks Falls, a retired employee for the Town of Colchester and a self-employed logger, died Friday, December 22, 2006 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home, Roscoe. He was 87.
The son of the late Melvin and Eunice Cook Parks, he was born May 12, 1919 in Liberty.
He was a former member and past chief of the Cooks Falls-Horton Fire Company, and a past president of the Delaware County Fireman's Association.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Doris E. Zahorik Parks, at home; a daughter, Joan Conrow and her husband, Clayton, of Cooks Falls; a granddaughter, Cindy Conrow of Cooks Falls; and several cousins.
A graveside service and burial were held Dec. 26 at the Cooks Falls Cemetery.

Magda Kovacs
Homemaker, 72
Magda Kovacs of Bethel, a homemaker, died Sunday, December 24, 2006 at Catskill Regional Medical Center after a valiant eight year battle with cancer. She was 72.
The daughter of Joseph and Ilona Bocsik Koalcsik, she was born September 18, 1934 in Budapest, Hungary.
In 1957, Magda and her husband Barney immigrated to this country and resided in the Bronx for 25 years, where they raised three daughters. In 1982, they relocated to a farm in Bethel. Shortly after moving to Bethel, Magda’s daughter, Helen Bakos, passed away, leaving behind her two daughters, Angela and Laura. Magda and Barney assumed the responsibility of raising those two young girls. Her whole life was devoted to caring for her daughters and grandchildren.
Magda will be sorely missed by family and friends and all who knew her. She will be remembered for her famous cooking and generosity and love for others.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Barney Kovacs, at home; her mother, Ilona of Budapest, Hungary; a daughter, Barbara Parker; three sisters, Georgette, Eva and Anna, all of Budapest; and four grandchildren, Angela Bakos, Laura Bakos, Anthony Parker and Salim Antabli.
She was predeceased by her father, Joseph Koalcsik; and two daughters, Helen Bakos and Magda Kovacs.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, December 29 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, Kauneonga Lake.
Burial will be made in Evergreen Cemetery, Rt. 17B, Bethel.
Edward J. Cocot Jr.
Self-employed Contractor, 81
Edward John Cocot Jr. of Monticello, a self-employed contractor, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 26, 2006. He was 81.
The son of Edward John and Carrie May Fisher Cocot, he was born May 18, 1925 in Monticello.
Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Patricia Bennett Cocot, at home; several children, a brother, John Cocot and his wife, Jean, of Thompsonville; and two sisters, Johanna Morris and her husband, Earl, of Thompsonville and Mary Salisbury of Cochecton.
Cremation was made at the convenience of the family.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 1, 2007 at the White Lake Reformed Presbyterian Church, Rt. 17B, with the Rev. David Coon officiating.
As Edward loved his church family, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the White Lake Reformed Presbyterian Church, Rt. 17B and Mattison Rd., White Lake, NY 12786.
Funeral arrangements are by Ramsay’s Funeral Homes Inc., of Monticello.
Catherine Gerson

Catherine "Kay" Gerson of Monticello, a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, January 6, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris.
The daughter of the late Thomas and Beatrice Petrucelli LaVecchia, she was born in Jersey City, N.J. She was the widow of Sol Gerson.
Mrs. Gerson was a member of St. Peter's Church and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Ruddick-Trowbridge American Legion Post No. 93, both in Monticello.
She is survived by her longtime companion, Bernie Lavender; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Robert Akers and Jackie and Lou Kiefer, all of Monticello; a brother Ben LaVecchia of North Carolina; seven sisters, Marion Williams of Forestburgh, Rose Perrone, Annie Lemp and Margaret Smith, all of the state of Florida, Nettie Brown and Lena Harris, both of Newburgh, and Frances Patton of Parksville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Louis LaVecchia.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Graveside services and burial of the cremains will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Cemetery in Monticello with the Rev. Ivan Csete officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Millicent P. Tescione
Ret. Secretary, 67
Millicent P. Tescione of Westbrookville, a retired secretary for the Port Jervis School System and a longtime area resident, died Monday, January 8, 2001, at Beth Israel North Hospital in New York City. She was 67 years of age.
The daughter of the late Jeanne Puglisi, she was born April 29, 1933, in the Bronx.
Mrs. Tescione was a member of Holy Name R.C. Church in Otisville and a volunteer for the D&H Canal Museum in Cuddebackville.
She is survived by her husband, Joachim "Jack" Tescione, at home; two daughters, Jacqueline Tescione, at home, and Christine DeNella and her husband, Lou, of Matamoras, Pa.; two grandsons, Kristopher and Dominick; a first cousin, Angela Brenner of New York City; and several nieces and nephews, including Janet Lee Tuttle and her husband, John; and a grand-niece, Jessica, and her husband, Glenn.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Thursday at Holy Name R.C. Church in Otisville with the Rev. Peter TranVanPhat officiating.
Interment was private.

Frank Anthony Felicello of Bloomingburg, a salesman, died Friday, January 5, 2001, at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh. He was 58 years of age.
The son of Helen Baxter and the late Frank Felicello, he was born November 15, 1942, in Newburgh.
He is survived by his mother, Helen Baxter Ryan of Wallkill; two brothers, Charles Murphy of Billings, Mont., and James and his wife, Gail Ryan of New Hyde Park, L.I.; and a sister and her husband, Donna and Ted Herring of Bloomingburg.
Services were held Wednesday at the DiDonato Funeral Home in Marlboro with Father Bill Scafidi officiating.
Burial was made in the Orange County VA Cemetery in Goshen.

Ret. Contractor, 86
Joseph Paul DeLuca Jr. of Middletown, a retired home contractor and truck driver for DeLuca Motor Lines, died Wednesday, January 3, 2001, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. He was 86 years of age.
The son of the late Joseph Paul Sr. and Angelina Barone DeLuca, he was born June 9, 1914, in Middletown.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Flo Cohen of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Chrisitan Burial was offered Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Middletown.
Burial was made in St. Joseph Cemetery in Middletown.
Mary Wilson
Student, 14
Mary Wilson of Otisville, a student at the Orange-Ulster BOCES in Goshen and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, January 9, 2001, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. She was 14 years of age.
The daughter of Conrad Louis Otero and Karen Ann Wilson Attaway, she was born August 27, 1986, in Middletown.
She attended Otisville-Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church in Otisville.
Miss Wilson is survived by her mother and stepfather, Tracy Attaway, of Otisville; her father of Port Jervis; four brothers, William Truman, Bryan, Benjamin and Timothy Otero, all at home; three sisters, Amanda Attaway, at home, Crystal Truman of Glen Spey and Bridgette Otero of Otisville; her maternal grandmother, Mary Wilson of Fair Oaks; her paternal grandfather, Mark A. Otero of Otisville; her paternal great-grandmother, Delores Otero of Otisville; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call at the Morse Funeral Home, 33 Railroad Ave., Middletown, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Otisville-Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Farley officiating.
Burial will be made in the Otisville-Mt. Hope Plains Cemetery.

Peter J. Christ of Brooksville, Florida, formerly of Cochecton, died April 27, 2007 in Florida. He was 57.
The son of Stella Caruana Christ and the late Peter Christ, he was born on May 4, 1949 in Brooklyn.
He was a Retired NYPD Officer, former owner of the Lakeview Luncheonette in Lake Huntington and a former Town of Cochecton Highway Superintendent. He was also a member of the New York Police Department PBA.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy of 16 years; his mother, Stella Christ of Brooklyn; a sister, Rosanne Malone and her husband, Daniel of Brooklyn; his children, Vanessa DeGori and her husband, Rocco of Milanville, Pa., Peter Christ III and his wife, Laura of Germany and JoAnn Filippo of New Jersey; his stepchildren, Dana Grisafe and her husband, Phil of Cochecton, Frank Ennis and his wife, Lisa of Pinellas Park, Fla.; his grandchildren, Jeremy DeGori, Nicholas DeGori, Anthony DeGori, Kevin Filippo, Dominick Filippo, Amanda Ennis, Tiffany Ennis, Vanessa Grisafe and Colleen Grisafe; two nephews, Daniel and Sean and his niece, Chelsea Rose.
He was predeceased by his father, Peter Christ.
Friends may call Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be Wednesday, May 2 at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon at 11 a.m. Father Ignatius Smith OFM will officiate.
Burial will be in the Fosterdale Cemetery in Fosterdale.
