Rose “Rosie Butler” Ruppert
Ret. Hairdresser, 92
Rose “Rosie Butler” Ruppert of Middletown, passed from this life on Saturday, April 28, 2007 in Middletown. She was 92.
The daughter of William and Mina Dibble Butler, she was born on August 27, 1914 in Livingston Manor. She was the youngest of the rowdy Butler clan, their Wild Irish Rose.
Rose loved her family immensely. Her sister, Jenny; brothers, Ray, Roy, and Alvin, along with their parents would play music together in true Irish tradition. Once, when a policeman showed up at the door, they were afraid they would have to tone it down, but he said no, so long as they’d invite him in for a drink and a jig, everything would be as right as rain.
She married Frank Ruppert, the love of her life, on November 8, 1936. They had a full and loving life together before Frank died in 1978. She was also predeceased by their infant son.
She loved working as a hairdresser, and later at Avon, from which she retired in 1980 with countless friends. Rose had a wonderful sense of humor and a great joy of life. She played the harmonica, accordion and the piano and possessed an infectious laugh. In later years, she was blessed by the devoted companionship of Anthony “Tony” Martini, Sr. of Middletown, who brightened her days immeasurably. Many thanks to the Martini family for sharing their father with our Aunt Rose.
Rose was predeceased by her immediate family but leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as her cat, Sweetie, whom she adopted as a stray. Her grandniece, Nancy Butler, was of great comfort to her as her sight failed, “yes, Aunt Rose, Sweetie’s in.”
