Eugene and Joan Murphy of Elmira, New York marked their 50th wedding anniversary with a party at the Reformatory Clubhouse on July 11, 2004. Mr. Eugene Murphy and the former Joan Bacon were married November 6, 1954 by the Rev. Theodore J. Winteroth at St. John the Baptist Church in Elmira. The couple has six children. They are Therese Andrews of Elmira; Joseph Murphy of Chittenago, New York; Michael Murphy of Elmira; Catherine Skordynski of Pine City, New York; Patrick Murphy of Chemung, New York; and Kevin Murphy of Elmira. There are 12 grandchildren. Mr. Murphy is retired from N.Y.S. Department of Corrections after 38 years of service and Mrs. Murphy is a homemaker.
