Mr. and Mrs. Michael W. Powers of Horseheads, NY marked their 50th wedding anniversary with a Mass at St. Charles Borromeo Church followed by a Family Dinner. Michael W. Powers and the former Mary J. Riffe were married August 1, 1953 at St. Cecilias Church by the Rev. Arthur Smith. The couple has two children. Michael W. III (Diane) Powers of Ormand Beach, FL and daughter Patricia Powers Kettle (Jerry) of Endwell, NY. There are three grandchildren; Mollie, Patrick and Connor Kettle.

Obituary of Michael Powers:
Michael W. Powers, Jr., Horseheads - Age 92, passed away peacefully at Corning Hospital on Friday, November 30, 2018. Mike was born in Elmira, a son of Michael & Anna Powers. He was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Powers Cullen. Mike is survived by his wife of 65 years Mary J. Riffe Powers; son and daughter-in-law Michael W. III & Diane Powers of St. Augustine, FL; daughter & son-in-law Patricia Powers Kettle and Gerald Kettle of Endwell, NY, three dear grandchildren, Mollie, Connor and Patrick Kettle; sister Frances Monroe of Elmira; brother Joseph Powers of Beacon, NY; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Timothy Lynch, Jean and Joseph Gizzi, all of Elmira; several nieces and nephews. Mike retired from the Elmira Correctional Facility after 37 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WW II and a life time member Elmira Elks Lodge #62. Mike had also been a longtime volunteer for the Arctic League. At Mike's request there will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 556 St. Joseph's Blvd., Elmira, on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Mike with a donation to either, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis TN 38101-9908 or the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City NY 13790. Arrangements by McInerny Funeral Home.
