KEITH "CARL" HELFRICK, 62, died the morning of Dec. 31, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 16, 1940, in Celina, to William Helfrick and Doris L. McCain. His mother survives in Lima. On Oct. 17, 1975, he married
Sherri Sholler, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Helfrick was a professional roofer and painter.
Survivors also include a son, Richard "Rick" (Millie) Davis of Wapakoneta; three daughters, Melissa (Jamie) Compton of Elida, and Michelle (Dennis) Dunbar and Karen (Owen) Garland, both of Lima; a brother, James E. Harding of Lima; and 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
There will be no services. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Siferd Funeral Home, Westwood Chapel.

Lima
GERTRUDE H. RARDIN HUFFER, 95, died at 5:15 p.m. Dec. 31, 2002, at Lost Creek Care Center.
She was born Jan. 27, 1907, in Lima, to Orville and Zella Bowsher Rardin, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 10, 1927, she married
William Earl Kelly, who died Jan. 25, 1945. On May 18, 1947, she married
Clarence R. Huffer, who died Aug. 10, 1979.
Mrs. Huffer was retired from the Argonne Hotel, where she worked as a hostess in the dinning room. She also worked as the organist at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church for many years and had also been the organist for Zion Lutheran Church and Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Home Lewis Chapel. She was a member of St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Mary Martha Circle, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 1275.
Survivors include a son, Michael (Carol) Kelly of Woodland, Wash.; a stepson, Robert (Georgia) Huffer of Haines City, Fla.; a daughter, Jacqueline From of Lima; three grandchildren, Rena (James) Aleshire of Lima, Kathleen (John) Haines of Brush Parrie, Wash., and Christopher (Tonya) Kelly of Troutdale, Ore.; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Kelly; a grandson, William "Mike" Joseph, and a sister, Elizabeth Stanyer.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Home, Lewis Chapel. The Rev. Arthur Wilde will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Elida.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Defiance
ROBERT B. KAUFMAN, 76, formerly of New Cleveland, died at 7:03 p.m. Dec. 31, 2002, at the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo.
He was born Oct. 29, 1926, in New Cleveland, to Alfred and Cordula Frank Kaufman. On June 16, 1954, he married
Ruth E. Reindel, who survives.
Mr. Kaufman retired in 1988 from Brown's Bakery after 25 years working in sales and as a delivery driver. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Defiance. He was a member of the Defiance Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3360, Defiance Eagles, the Defiance Fish and Game Club and the American Legion. He served in the Army in the South Pacific during World War II.
Survivors also include three sons, Dennis, Dave and Douglas Kaufman, all of Defiance; four brothers, Alvin Kaufman Sr. of Nettles Lake, Alfred Kaufman Jr. of Glandorf, and Ambrose Kaufman and Gerald Kaufman, both of Ottawa; a sister, Mary Lou (James) Reamon of Lima; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Kaufman Sr. and Cletus Kaufman, who died in infancy.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Defiance. The Rev. Tim Kummerer will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Defiance, with military graveside services by the VFW.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today or from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, 1753 S. Clinton St., Defiance. A vigil service will begin at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lima
VIRGINIA LOUISE LEWIS, 77, died at 1:02 p.m. Dec. 31, 2002, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 30, 1925, in Parkersburg, W.Va., to Alexander F. and Virginia L. Lee Harris, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 18, 1943, she married
Robert A. Lewis, who died July 8, 1986.
Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker. She was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Mothers Board and the Missionary Society. She was a volunteer for the Allen County Council on Aging and was a member of the Teamsters Local 903.
Survivors include two sons, Robert L. Lewis and Garry A. (Ada) Lewis, both of Lima; two daughters, Virginia E. Evans and Theresa L. Daniel, both of Lima; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Roberta J. Lewis and Sarah M. Davenport; and two brothers, Floyd Harris and Leroy Harris.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. The Revs. Robert Curtis and Melvin J. Woodard will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Jones-Clark Funeral Home Chapel, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Wapakoneta
MARY D. LIGHTLE, 83, died at 8:30 p.m. Dec. 31, 2002, at Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Bainbridge, to Edward and Iva Rhoades Pester. On Oct. 18, 1939, she married
Henry W. Lightle, who died March 19, 1994.
Mrs. Lightle was a homemaker. She worked for 17 years at St. Marys Cotton Mill. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Wapakoneta. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include five sons, Tom (Judy) Lightle of Portland, Ind., Bob (Kathy) Lightle and James Lightle, both of Wapakoneta, Richard (Cheryl) Lightle of Sidney, and Daniel (Cheryl) Lightle of Anna; four daughters, Patricia (Steven) Pulfer of Jackson Center, Vicki (Clem) Cratty of Wapakoneta, Deb (Don) Carter of Erlanger, Ky., and Deloris (Larry) Swaisgood of Bowling Green; two brothers, Charles (Virginia) Pester of Continental, and John (Lois) Pester of Wapakoneta; a sister, Clara Osborn of Cleveland; and 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Lightle; and a sister, Stella Johns.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Nazarene, Wapakoneta. The Rev. Ward Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Wapakoneta.

Lima
SALLY JANE MARTIN, 73, died at 10 a.m. Dec. 30, 2002, at her residence, following a short illness.
She was born July 17, 1929, in Lansing, Mich., to Robert and Margaret Hager Schumacher, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 25, 1951, she married
Thomas F. Martin, who survives.
Mrs. Martin attended Ward Belmont in Tennessee her last two years of high school. She received her degree in elementary education from Michigan State University. She taught kindergarten in public schools in Michigan and Ohio. She joined the Junior League of America in Lansing, Mich., where she learned the importance of volunteering. In the 1970s, she was part of the group that introduced volunteering to he public schools of Lima. She was a member of St. Rita's Volunteers and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She was a board member at Dorothy Love Retirement Community, served on the Market Place Board of Trustees and was a story teller at Quest Academy. She had been named Woman of the Year by Sertoma. Since being in Lima, she had concentrated her efforts and enthusiasm toward the Lima Symphony Orchestra, where she received her life member status in 1997 for 20 years of service. In 1960, she joined Friends of the Symphony, in which she became instrumental in starting the geranium sale.
Survivors also include a son, Robert (Barbara) Martin of Denver; two daughters, Susan J. Martin of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Barbara M. (Dick) Chrisman of Irvine, Ky.; a sister, Barbara Richardson of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and four grandchildren, Julie Martin, Bob Martin, Sallee Chrisman and Tom Chrisman.
Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Market Street Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Richard L. Sheffield will officiate. Burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date in Evergreen cemetery, Lansing, Mich.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel, and one hour prior to services Thursday in the Williamsburg Room at the church.

Van Wert
MARY E. MORGAN, 95, of Van Wert, formerly of Venadocia, died at 3 a.m. Jan. 1, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital.
She was born Nov. 25, 1907, in York Township, to David D. Jones and Mary E. Reese Jones. On Feb. 23, 1928, she married
T. Carl Morgan, who died in April 1966.
Mrs. Morgan was a homemaker and worked at Bordens until 1957. She also owned and operated Sandman Babysitting Services in Sarasota, Fla. She was a member of Salem Presbyterian Church and attended Trinity Friends Church, Van Wert. She graduated from York High School in 1926.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna (Noah) Robeson of Van Wert; and seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert A. Morgan; a brother, Daniel Jones; four sisters, Teva Wheeler, Leon George, Katherine Wells and Margaret Davies Willson; and a grandson, Karl Andrew Kennedy.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harter & Sons Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, Delphos. Burial will be in Horeb cemetery.
