VERDA Y. PHALEN, 87, died at 11:05 p.m. Aug. 5, 2003, at her residence.
She was born March 7, 1916, in Allen County to Charles E. and Lizzie Sibert Miller, who preceded her in death. In September 1934, she married
Alfred Phalen, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Phalen was a licensed practical nurse working at Springview Manor Nursing Home and St. Rita's Medical Center. She attended Lima Baptist Temple.
Survivors include four daughters, Carol (Carl) Hepner of Ada, Ada Eberhart of Lockport, N.Y., and Marlene (Jack) Wren and Nancy (Garry) Prater, both of Lima; a sister, Kathryn Gunther of Mobile, Ala.; and nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Quick; a brother, Elbie Miller; a sister, Ruth Miller; and a grandson.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Lima Baptist Temple. The Rev. Gary Hohman will officiate. Burial will be in St. Matthew cemetery, near Cridersville.

WANDA SCHNEIDER, 74, died at 1:35 p.m. Aug. 6, 2003, at Lima Manor Nursing Home.
Arrangements are incomplete at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel, Delphos.
St. Marys
ISABELLE C. SILVER, 90, died at 10:42 p.m. Aug. 5, 2003, at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys.
She was born Dec. 4, 1912, in Lima to George and Margaret Still Kohler, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 15, 1931, she married
Melville W. Silver, who died May 19, 1987.
Mrs. Silver retired in 1964 from the dietary department at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. She had also worked at the EUB Campground, the Woolen Mills and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., all in St. Marys, and the DWG Cigar Factory. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, St. Marys. She had been a member of Kishler Women's Relief Corps, St. Marys. She was a 1930 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School.
Survivors include two sons, Melville "Tom" (Barbara) Silver of Leipsic and Berry (Dorothy) Silver of St. Marys; a daughter, Mary "Lelajo" (Joseph) Reineke of St. Marys; and eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Audrey Young and Jane Young.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys. The Rev. Patricia Minnick will officiate. Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery, St. Marys.

Columbus Grove
RICHARD A. YOUNG, 87, died at 8:04 p.m. Feb. 15, 2004, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 14, 1917, in Lima to William and Blanche Richardson Young, who preceded him in death. On May 31, 1948, he married
Lillian M. Woodley, who died Dec. 11, 1995.
Mr. Young retired as a supervisor from the Allen County Engineers Office. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Columbus Grove, where he had been an elder. He was a member and past president of the Columbus Grove Lions Club and had served as district governor of District 13-A of the Ohio Lions Club. He was a member and past president of the Cairo Community Club and a member of Bluffton Senior Citizens. He was a Cleveland Indians fan.
Survivors include three sons, Phil (Ruby) Woodley of Lima, Richard Young of Springfield and Todd Young of Georgia; a daughter, Judith Patterson of Atlanta; and five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Young; a brother, Carl Young; and three sisters, Iva Jackson, Willanan Hughley and Merely Archer.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Columbus Grove. The Rev. Opal Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Truro cemetery, Columbus Grove.
There will be no visitation as the body has been cremated.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
Ottawa
RICHARD R. CONINE, 69, died the afternoon of Feb. 17, 2004, at his residence.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa.

Columbus Grove
GENEVIEVE H. DUGGER, 81, died at 2:25 a.m. Feb. 18, 2004, at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.
She was born April 4, 1922, in Jamaica, N.Y., to Harry and Nettie Etta Walter Fields, who preceded her in death. In 1944, she married
Joseph Charles Dugger Sr., who died Jan. 27, 1964.
Mrs. Dugger was a homemaker. She had worked at Sylvania Co., Ottawa, and had owned and operated the Grove Party Shop, Columbus Grove. She was a member of American Legion Post 516 Auxiliary, Columbus Grove.
Survivors include a son, Carl (Linda) Dugger of Columbus Grove; a daughter, Carolyn (Tom) Mikesell of Elida; seven grandchildren, Renee Corey, Brian Dugger, Tami Richardson, Lisa Jefferson, Jackie Spinnati, Jeff Mikesell and Jennifer Martin; 17 grandchildren; and good friend and roommate at Hilty Memorial Home, Helen Krouse.
She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Charles Dugger Jr.; a brother; and a sister, Elenor Tattersall.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. The Rev. Gary Ginter will officiate. Burial will be in Truro cemetery, Columbus Grove.

Lima
CHRISTIAN EDWARD ELLING died at birth at 3:35 a.m. Feb. 18, 2004, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
His parents, Anthony and Ginger Reineke Elling, survive in Lima.
Survivors also include a brother, Keaton Elling at home; maternal grandmother, Bea Reineke of Wapakoneta; paternal grandparents, Richard and Martha Hinegardner of Bluffton and Luther Elling of Lima; and maternal great-grandparents, Betty Bibighaus of Wapakoneta and Del and Joan Shafer of Marion.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Edward Reineke.
Private graveside services will be held in Greenlawn cemetery, Wapakoneta.
Arrangements are by Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta.
Van Wert
THOMAS L. EVANS, 84, died Feb. 15, 2004, in Tucson, Ariz.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert. The Rev. Job Stagner will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge cemetery, Middle Point, with military rites by American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803.

Lima
ROBERT F. HOFMANN, 94, formerly of Russells Point, died at 4:45 a.m. Feb. 18, 2004, at Beverly Health Care.
He was born July 11, 1909, in Allen County to Jacob and Phoebe Hofmann, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Hofmann had been a craftsman for the Indian Lake Boat Co. and had worked for several years at Major Marine, Russells Point. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the military police.
Survivors include a sister, Lucille Schaublin of Lima; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Louis, Russell, Walter and Jimmy Hofmann; and two sisters, Hazel Conrad and Helen Toy.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. The Rev. David Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275.
Friends may call one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
