Columbus Grove
H. BERNICE "DIMP" ALLEN, 88, died at 11:45 a.m. Nov. 17, 2004, at Lima Memorial Health System.
She was born Aug. 27, 1916, in Columbus Grove to Day and Edna Botts McAdams, who preceded her in death. On Feb. 11, 1935, she married
John A. Allen, who died Jan. 15, 1968.
Mrs. Allen was a homemaker and had worked in the cafeteria at Columbus Grove High School for several years. She was a member of Columbus Grove United Church of Christ. She was a member of Child Study Club and Friends of the Library, both in Columbus Grove. She envisioned and co-founded the Sycamore Grove Condo and Housing Community, along with her children. She was an avid writer and would send out-of-town family members a monthly newsletter, which included pictures and all of the Columbus Grove news and events. She cared about and very much loved her community. She had a soft spot in her heart for the less fortunate and came to the aid of many.
Survivors include two sons, Gary (Sharon) Allen and Michael (Marilyn) Allen, both of Columbus Grove; three daughters, Diana (Gene) Darbyshire and Johneen (George) Verhoff, both of Columbus Grove, and Kathleen (Roger) Hanneman of Kalida; two brothers, N. Day McAdams and Tom D. (Bonnie) McAdams, both of Columbus Grove; and 19 grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 12 stepgreat-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson and a stepgreat-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty J. Lusk.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Columbus Grove United Church of Christ. Pastor Don Sadler will officiate. Burial will be in Truro cemetery, Columbus Grove.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove.

Lima
ROBERT E. JACKSON, 79, died at 4:09 p.m. Nov. 16, 2004, at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born April 4, 1925, in Cavalier, N.D., to John A. and Eva M. Rhode Jackson, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 1, 1976, he married
Doris A. Lee, who survives.
Mr. Jackson retired in 1978 as a process operator from Standard Oil, after 11 years. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, AMVETS Post 1 and Fraternal Order of Orioles Nest 173. He was a member of American Legion Post 96, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 and the Standard Oil Quarter Century Club. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving as a corpsman. He was the first Navy corpsman inducted into the Marine Corps League.
Survivors also include a son, Terry L. (Wava Darlene) Jackson; a daughter, Barbara J. (Richard) Griffith of Monticello, Ind.; two brothers, Harry (Gladys) Jackson and Billy (Florence) Jackson, both of Lima; and three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald and twins Ronald and Donald Jackson.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. Chaplain Richard Coon will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a Marine Corps League memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. and an American Legion memorial service will be held at 7 p.m.

MABEL E. NEFF McCARTY, 101, died the morning of Nov. 17, 2004, at her residence.

RUTH ANN MEEKER, 67, formerly of Rockport, died at 7:10 a.m. Nov. 17, 2004, at Lima Memorial Health System.
She was born Feb. 4, 1937, in Rockport to Thomas H. and Gertrude Meeks White, who preceded her in death. She had been married
to Paul Pursell. On March 15, 1958, she married
Gary Dean Meeker, who died Nov. 22, 1999.
Mrs. Meeker was a homemaker and had worked at Triplett Corp., Bluffton. She was a member of Victory Center Church of God, Wapakoneta. She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, Lima. She was a wonderful mother, who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Dean Meeker and Brian Keith Meeker, both of Lima; two daughters, Paula Ann (Mike) Augsburger of Bluffton and Barbara Jo (Michael) Harnishfeger of Ada; four sisters, Josephine Cheney of Rockport, Roberta Stevenson of Lima, Wilma (John) Bailey of Alger and Betty Lou White of Bluffton; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Bluffton Chapel. The Rev. Timothy Barteeq will officiate. Burial will be in Rockport cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Wapakoneta
LOIS A. PESTER, 74, died at 12:49 p.m. Nov. 16, 2004, at Auglaize Acres Nursing Home, Wapakoneta.
She was born Aug. 6, 1930, in Wapakoneta to Marion and Margrete Spees Erb, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 10, 1950, she married
John C. Pester, who survives.
Mrs. Pester retired from Superior Tube and Fisher Cheese Co., both in Wapakoneta. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wapakoneta. She enjoyed traveling, reading and solving puzzles.
Survivors also include a son, Alan (Becky) Pester of Springfield; a daughter, Kim (Christopher) Fisher of Berkesville, Ky.; five grandchildren, Holly Pester, Brian Pester, Jason (Amber) Fisher, Jennifer Fisher and Jacob Fisher; two great-grandchildren, Havien and Landon Fisher; and a sister-in-law, Evonda Erb of Wapakoneta.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson and Norman Erb.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta. The Rev. Dr. Alex Gondola will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Wapakoneta.

Lima
LT. COL. ROBERT M. REESE, 81, of Viera, Fla., formerly of Lima, died at 9:35 p.m. Nov. 13, 2004, at Wuesthoff Hospital, Rockledge, Fla., from colon cancer.
He was born June 8, 1923, in Bowling Green to Lloyd W. and Marie Reese, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 7, 1948, he married
Lila J. Japsers, of San Francisco, who died Dec. 30, 1993.
Mr. Reese was a 1941 graduate of Washington Court House High School, Washington Court House, where he earned eight varsity letters in football, baseball and basketball. In football he was named to the All Central Buckeye Team, first team All South Central Ohio and first team Associated Press All Ohio. He was inducted into the WCHHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 1985. He was a 1945 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., where he received his bachelor's degree in military science and engineering and was president his class. While at the academy he was a football standout out under the coaching of Red Blake. He had attended The Ohio State University, prior to his appointment to West Point, where he played football under Paul Brown. He had also attended the Marion Military Institute in Marion, Ala.
While serving in the Army he served in all infantry positions from platoon leader, company commander, battalion commander and G2 officer. He had two tours in Korea and three in Japan. He had an assignment at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., and ended his 21-year military career as a professor of military science at the University of North Alabama.
In 1967, he joined St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, as vice president of development and public relations. He established the first not-for-profit Hospice program in northwestern Ohio at St. Rita's. He was chairman of St. Rita's Long Range Planning Committee during the planning and construction phases of the 1977 patient tower project. He organized the St. Rita's development program raising millions of dollars between 1977 and 1989, as well as responsible for physician recruitment for the medical center.
He had been a member of Christ Church Episcopal, Lima, and a member of St. Paul Anglican Church, Suntree, Fla. He had served as president of the Lima Rotary Club and a former member of the Cincinnati Rotary Club. He had served as president of the Allen County Chapter of the American Red Cross and as chairman of the Lima Salvation Army. He had been a member of the Shawnee Country Club, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54. He had served as vice president of the Ohio Association for Hospital Development and the Lima United Way. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Viera, Fla., the Indian River Colony Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Rockledge, Fla., and BPOE, Merritt Island, Fla.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane J.L. Reese of Viera, Fla.; and a brother, Lloyd W. Reese Jr. of Gomer.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Anglican Church, Suntree, Fla. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 29, in the Post cemetery at
Delphos
GERTRUDE G. SCHWERTNER, 94, died at 4:05 p.m. Nov. 16, 2004, at Sarah Jane Living Center, Delphos.
She was born Oct. 20, 1910, in Rushmore to Joseph and Dorathea Pahl Bauman, who preceded her in death. She married
Clarence Lause, who died in 1946. She then married
Lawrence Schwertner, who died in 1979.
Mrs. Schwertner was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. She was a member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 471 and American Legion Post 268, all in Delphos. She enjoyed playing cards and loved to spend time with her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Ann (Paul) Metzger of Delphos; three sisters, Rose Schwegler of Boca Raton, Fla., Alvera (Dale) Sakemiller of Rimer and Vicki Allen of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a brother, Al Bauman of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three grandchildren, Sharon (Tony) Closson, Tim Metzger and Annette Youngpeter; and eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Elmer Bauman; and two sisters, Marcella Bauman and Hilda Scherman.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. Father Thomas Gorman will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
