JOHN W. ALLEN, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., formerly of Kenton, died Jan. 11, 2004, in Myrtle Beach.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Kenton.
Lima
JESSE BAKER, of Cincinnati, formerly of Lima, died Jan. 7, 2005.
He was born to Jesse Baker Sr. and Lucille Shenk, who preceded him in death. His wife of 60 years, VerJeanne Custer-Morris Baker, survives in Cincinnati.
Mr. Baker retired in 1989 from Jim Walters Corp., Monroe. He was a graduate of Lima South High School and attended OSU-Lima. He was a Navy veteran serving in the South Pacific.
Survivors also include four children, Jacque Schirmer, Bruce (Rainey) Baker, Brad (Sue) Baker and Blair (Sharon) Baker; and 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Merlin Shenk.
Memorial services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Evangelical Community Church, Cincinnati. His body has been donated to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity or Christian church of the donor's choice.
Cloverdale
RAYMOND H. "RAY" CARDER, 75, died Jan. 11, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 28, 1929, in Continental to Henry and Mae Carder, who preceded him in death. In 1953, he married
Juanita Carder, who survives in Cloverdale.
Mr. Carder retired as a pattern shop machinist from General Motors, Defiance. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Continental. He was a charter member of the 2 Cylinder Club and a former member of the Putnam County Selective Service Board. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Retirees Local 211, Defiance, where he served on the board of recreation for several years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include a son, R. Kim (Susan) Carder of Utica, Ky.; a brother, Donald Carder of Continental; a sister, Rozena Wolf of New Bavaria; a grandson, Josh Carder, who is a student at Western Kentucky University; and a granddaughter, Jackie Carder of Utica, Ky.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental. The Rev. Greg Wack will officiate. Burial will be in Monroe cemetery, Continental.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita's Medical Center Oncology Department.
Wapakoneta
CLYDE W. DINGLEDINE, 83, died at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 12, 2005, at his residence.

CHARLES ALBERT "CHARLIE" DOWNING, 79, died at 11:52 a.m. Jan. 12, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 13, 1925, in Lima to Olaf and Evon Helms Patton, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 23, 1945, he married
Kathryn Shaw, who survives in Elida.
Mr. Downing retired from Pepsi-Cola, after 12 years, and had worked at Meadow Gold Dairy. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple. He was an Army veteran serving from Dec. 6, 1945 to Dec. 19, 1946. He was a very hard working man who loved his wife, children, sons-in-law, grandchildren, relatives, friends, his pastor, Gary, and the church. He also loved his dog, Sonny. He talked to everyone he met and will be missed by many.
Survivors also include two sons, William Downing and Mike "Mick" Downing, both of Lima; four daughters, Diane (Tim) Miller and Sandy (Greg) Frazee, both of Lima, Pat (Don) Kleman of Dayton and Mary (Jerry) Goodwin of Lima; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Downing.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastor Gary Hohman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Elida.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Elida
WILLIAM L. "BILL" HIGHLAND, 60, died at 6:30 a.m. Jan. 11, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born April 11, 1944, in Elida to Emmet and Lois Hullinger Highland, who preceded him in death. On April 27, 1963, in Philadelphia, he married
Mary McDaid, who survives in Elida.
Mr. Highland retired in 2000 as a maintenance supervisor at the Allen Correctional Institution, after 13 years. He had also worked at Teledyne Steel for more than 18 years. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. He was a Navy veteran serving from Jan. 26, 1961, to March 31, 1964. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved to fish.
Survivors include two sons, William J. Highland of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Brian (Sara) Highland of Middletown; a daughter, Cheryl (Scott) Sanderson of Elida; three brothers, Art (Connie) Highland, Jim (Sandy) Highland and Gene (Sharon) Highland; a sister, Sharon Highland; and four grandchildren, Cole Sanderson, Cody Sanderson, Abigail Highland and Matthew Highland.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Wanda Werking will officiate.

LUETTA HURLESS, 93, died at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 12, 2005, at Linn Manor Care Center, Marion, Iowa.

NORBERT F. KIDD, 60, died at 2:26 a.m. Jan. 12, 2005, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 12, 1944, in Ottawa to Norbert Ellerbrock and Kathryn Kidd Wurm, who preceded him in death. On June 27, 1965, he married
Pamela B. Black, who survives.
Mr. Kidd worked at the BP Distributions Center for 12 years. He was a member of Unity Church. He was an avid woodworker and sports fan.
Survivors also include two sons, Greg C. (Dionne) Kidd and Scott A. (Jeni) Kidd, both of Elida; five brothers, Joe Wurm of Lima, Bob (Susan) Wurm of Dayton, Art Wurm of Bellefontaine, Pete (Roxanne) Clymer of Findlay and Jim (Rose) Clymer of Tiffin; two sisters, Margaret (Glenn) Bresler of Spencerville and Kay (John) Bradford of Lima; and three grandchildren, Kaitlin R. Kidd, Brayden M. Kidd and Ashley Casady.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Siferd Funeral Homes, Westwood Chapel. Pastor Beverly Shade will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

Perry Township
RHEA LEATTA BUTLER MILLER, 94, died at 8:10 p.m. Jan. 11, 2005, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy.
She was born July 1, 1910, to Arthur and Gertrude Rhodes Butler, who preceded her in death. Her husband of 70 years, Derrole A. Miller, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Miller was a homemaker. She retired from Abrams Bridal Salon and had worked several years in retail. She attended Forest Park United Methodist Church, Lima, and St. Paul United Church of Christ, Piqua. She was a 50-year member of Trinity Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Lima. She was a lifelong resident of Perry Township.
Survivors include a daughter, Dolores (Roland) Schultz of Piqua; a daughter-in-law, Opal Miller of Lima; six grandchildren, Michele D. Schultz (Tony) Alfieri of Smethport, Pa., Denise Leatta Schultz (Brad) Gutman of Sidney, Gregory (Lynn) Miller of Tucson, Ariz., Tamra Sue Miller (Tim) Satkowski of Gahanna, Bryan (Sherrin) Miller of Lima and Phillip (Sharon) Miller of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; and 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Desma Verbryke of Lima.
She was preceded in death by a son, Derrole E. Miller; and five brothers and sisters
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The Rev. Larry Hopkins will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery, near Uniopolis.
