LEONA BUTLER, 91, died at 11:10 p.m. Jan. 10, 2006, at her residence.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos. The Rev. David Howell will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove cemetery, Delphos.

Grover Hill
LOUIS J. DAEGER, 81, died at 9:07 a.m. Jan. 10, 2006, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born May 25, 1924, in Paulding to Peter and Viola Strabele Daeger, who preceded him in death. On April 22, 1950, he married
Betty Hoersten, who survives in Grover Hill.
Mr. Daeger was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors also include three children, Deborah (David) Wenninger of Haviland, David (Sheri) Daeger of Van Wert and Doug (Jean) Daeger of Fort Wayne, Ind.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Daeger of Hamilton, Ind.; and two sisters, Madeline Scarbrough of Huntington, Ind., and Rosemary (Bob) Scarbrough of Grover Hill.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Daeger.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. The Rev. Joseph Pryszbyz will officiate.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Orians Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m.

Columbus
RICHARD A. GIESIGE, 57, of Columbus and formerly of New Bavaria, died Jan. 10, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 24, 1948, in Lima to Leonard "Butch" and Ann Laws Giesige. His father preceded him in death. His mother survives in Ottawa.
Mr. Giesige was an estimator for Ambassador Steel of Marion. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1427, Columbus. He was a 1966 graduate of Hamler High School. He attended The Ohio State University and was an avid Ohio State fan.
Survivors also include a brother, Leonard (Linda) Giesige of Hamler; three sisters, Beth (Dennis) Steffan of Leipsic, Sue (Larry) Bloom of Toledo and Lori (Craig) Diem of Brighton, Mich.
He was preceded in death by a nephew, Shawn Steffan.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria. Father Tim Knepper will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, where a Scripture service will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Lakeview
SYLVIA "PEACH" CARTER HEINTZ, 69, died at 10 a.m. Jan. 11, 2006, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 22, 1936, in Lakeview to Edgar B. and Lucille B. Cummins Carter, who preceded her in death. On Dec. 3, 1966, she married
Claude E. Heintz, who survives.
Mrs. Heintz was a homemaker and helped to start United Tool & Machine, Lakeview. She had worked part time as a bartender at AMVETS Post 39, Lakeview, for more than 20 years and was also a life member of its auxiliary. She was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3316 Auxiliary, Jackson Center, and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3615, Indian Lake. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, pool tournaments, camping, flea markets, mushroom hunting, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors also include two sons, Jack Shepard of Lakeview and Jon Heintz of Port Orchard, Wash.; three daughters, Mona Diener of Bellefontaine and Jodi (Andy) Hatfield and Sandy Jo (Brad) Lones, both of Lakeview; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jeanie (Howard) Roush, Middle Point.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Dick and Pee Wee Carter; and a sister, Virginia Pool.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Van Horn Funeral Home, Lakeview. Pastor Karen Blackburn will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Hill cemetery, New Hampshire, Ohio.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Lima
CYNTHIA KAY MECHLING, 57, of Ishpeming, Mich., formerly of Lima, died the morning of Jan. 10, 2006, at her home, a year after being diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease.
She was born June 29, 1948, in Lima to Omer and Joan Bible Piehl. Her father preceded her in death. Her mother survives in Lima. She married
Robert Mechling III, who survives in Ishpeming, Mich.
Mrs. Mechling was a 1966 graduate of Elida High School. She enjoyed bird watching, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, traveling, camping and spending time with her grandchildren. She collected cookbooks and had more than 7,000 in her collection. She had been a member of the ZONTA Club, Marquette, Mich.
Survivors also include two children, Robert "J.R." (Katie) Mechling IV of Ishpeming, Mich.; a daughter, Christina (Bradley) Miller of Marquette, Mich.; five grandchildren, Madison Mechling, Sidney Mechling, Kalli Gustitis, Robert Mechling V and Bradley Miller II; a brother, Bob (Sandy) Piehl of Lima; and a niece, Katie Piehl of Lima.
Services will begin at noon Friday at Canale-Tonella Funeral Home, Marquette, Mich. The Rev. Charles L. Tooman will officiate. Burial will be in the Ishpeming cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home.

Wapakoneta
MARY K. OWENS, 88, of Orange Park, Fla., formerly of Wapakoneta, died Jan. 10, 2006, in Orange Park.
She was born in Wapakoneta. Her husband of 41 years, Woodrow Wilson Owens, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Owens retired from Lima Memorial Hospital. She moved to Orange Park, Fla., in 2004.
Survivors include three daughters, Debra Chesser, Teresa Todino and Scharon Ridinger; a brother, Bernard Horman; and eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Maloney.
Private family services were held.
Arrangements were by Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, Orange Park, Fla.
Columbus
GEORGE E. PROTSMAN, 87, died Jan. 10, 2006, at the Village of Westerville Nursing Home.
He was born to Frank and Jessie Protsman, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Protsman retired as a salesman from J. Hungerford Smith (Hunts-Wesson Co.). He was a member of Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, Upper Arlington. He was inducted into the Centennial High School Hall of Fame. He was a veteran of World War II. He loved the New York Yankees and George Steinbrenner. He had many great friends because of his warm and gregarious personality.
Survivors include several cousins, close friends, retired Judge Fred and Rosalie Shoemaker, Martha Shoemaker, Daniel and Dorothy Dover, Joe and Patricia Toronto, Tom Rainier, Nona Wallick, Linda Brigner, Charles and Lisa Whitman, Richard and Rita Reidenbach, his good friends at the Breakfast Club and Dr. Michael Brogan and staff.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother; and close friends, Donald Shoemaker and Parker Brigner.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Schoedinger North Chapel. Burial will be in Union cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 7:45 p.m.
