WALTER B. NEWLAND, 71, died at 4:15 p.m. Dec. 19, 2006, at Lima Memorial Health System, following a 34-day illness.
He was born Feb. 24, 1935, in Allen County to Lonnie and Phoebe Jane Meadows Newland, who preceded him in death. He married
Veronica Moening, who survives.
Mr. Newland retired in 1991, from Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant, after 32 years. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Detroit Pistons fan. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who was always giving rather than receiving.
Survivors also include a daughter, Joy Coleman, of Lima; a son, Brent (Kathy) Newland, of Columbus Grove; a brother, Lonnie (Yvonne) Newland, of Lady Lake, Fla.; a sister, Leona Hale, of Alger; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Matt) Steman, Bill (Tasha) Cross and Nicole Cross; six great-grandchildren, Skylar, Madison, Philip, Zander, Issac and Keilick; and his two dogs, Minnie and Barkley.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Ellen Reigle.
There will be no services or visitation.

Lakeview
WILLIAM F. POOL, 68, died at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 19, 2006, at Lost Creek Care Center, Lima.
He was born May 26, 1938, in Delaware, Ohio, to Clarence and Marie Pool, who preceded him in death. On June 28, 1959, he married
Susan K. Lewis, who survives.
Mr. Pool retired from Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant.
Survivors also include two sons, William (Margaret) Pool and Kevin (Lori) Pool, both of Lakeview; five grandchildren, Amanda Wibley, Bradley (Carlena) Pool, Ryan Pool, Ashley Pool and Kendell Pool; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maryalice Henry, of Springfield, and Nancy (Chet) Hartley, of West Mansfield; a brother, Jim (Norma) Pool, of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Wibley; a sister, Dorothy; and three brothers, Clarence Jr., Harold and Raymond.
Graveside services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Marlboro cemetery, Delaware, Ohio. Pastor David Buchenroth will officiate.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Sanford-Eichholtz Funeral Home, Lakeview.

Van Wert
DENNIS "DENNY" REISH, 59, died at 12:10 a.m. Dec. 19, 2006, at his residence.
Private services will be held Friday at Brickner Funeral Home, Van Wert. The Rev. Paul Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.

MARCELLUS "CEL" STUEVE, 82, died Dec. 19, 2006.

Lima
MARTIN JUNIOR WINGATE, 79, died at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 20, 2006, at Springview Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Lima to Martin and Freda Weireman Wingate, who preceded him in death. He had been married
to Virginia Rose Lenhardt, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Wingate had been a mechanic for Goldstone Tracking and had worked at the Allen County Department of Job and Family Services. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, Lima, and American Legion Post 178, Van Wert, where he had been a post commander. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater, where he received several decorations. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors also include three sons, Stephen R. (Robin Ogden) Wingate and Paul D. Wingate, both of Cloverdale, and James B. (Dawn N.) Wingate, of Lima; four sisters, Winifred Binkley, Pauline Arthur, Beatrice Cattell and Edna Carnes, all of Lima; three grandchildren, Wendy S. (Matthew) Schnipke, Jamie R. Wingate and Scott A. Wingate; and two great-grandchildren, Ali and Wyatt.
He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne C. Wingate.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Lewis East Side Chapel. Pastor Charlotte A. Hefner will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275.

Lima
NELLIE E. BABER, 88, of Apollo Beach, Fla., formerly of Lima, died at 5:15 a.m. April 24, 2007, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 25, 1918, in Clermont County to Monte Lee and Clara Mae Stansberry Day, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 7, 1962, she married
Russell J. Baber, who died June 24, 1997.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis (Bill Russell) Gorham, of Apollo Beach, Fla., and Patricia Ann Davidson, of Riverview, Fla.; two sons, Ronald Lee (Cheryl) Moore, of Apollo Beach, Fla., and Gary Lynn (Cindy) Troyer, of Tampa, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Kay (Robert) McClain, of Bellingham, Wash., and Lynn (Dave) Baker, of Lima; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Clay Junior Moore.
Graveside services will begin at 3 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park cemetery, Lima. The Rev. Samuel Payne will officiate.

Alger
BETTY L. SHANKES, 78, died at 5 a.m. April 24, 2007, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 18, 1928, in McGuffey to William P. and Eva Mae Gunn Tschantz, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 14, 1948, she married
Robert E. Shankes, who died Jan. 28, 1985.
Mrs. Shankes was a homemaker.
Survivors include four sons, Gary Cummings and Marshall Shankes, both of Alger, and Richard Eugene Shankes and Anthony Wayne Shankes; two daughters, Bonnie Horner, of Alger, and Rosemary Pence, of Las Vegas; a brother, Charles Claybaugh, of Idaho; and several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Robert Shankes; and three brothers.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. today at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger. Pastor Frank P. Smith Sr. will officiate. Graveside services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at the Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Colerain.

Delphos
MELVIN J. MARTZ, 83, died at 12:06 p.m. April 25, 2007, at VanCrest Health Care Center, Delphos.
He was born April 15, 1924, in Delphos to Edward and Gertrude Gladen Martz, who preceded him in death. He married
Eileen Krietemeyer, who survives in Delphos.
Mr. Martz was a farmer and had been a representative for Pioneer Seed for 31 years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1362, Delphos. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3740, Ottoville, American Legion Post 715, Fort Jennings, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 471, Delphos. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines. He enjoyed playing cards and dancing for several years. He also enjoyed playing golf and attending high school sporting events.
Survivors also include, four sons, Bill (Becky) Martz, of Houston, Texas, Joe (Diane) Martz, of Delphos, Chuck (Sue) Martz, of Midland, Mich., and Steve (Dena) Martz, of Delphos; two sisters, Leona Miller, of Ottoville, and Alice (Ralph) Hoehn, of Delphos; and 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Erwin Martz; and a sister, Alvera Osting.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. Father Melvin Verhoff will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery, Delphos, with military rites.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday.
