JAMES E. RITTENOUR Sr., 72, of Lady Lake, Fla., formerly of Lima, died Nov. 30, 2003, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 17, 1931, in Garrett, Pa., to John and Mabel Rittenour, who preceded him in death. On June 12, 1952, he married
Helen Long, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 15, 2000, he married
Donna Lott Raybuck, who survives.
Mr. Rittenour retired in 1986, as manager and owner of Carter Lumber Co., Columbus Grove, for more than 35 years. During that time he trained, molded and mentored several young people toward successful lives. He was an Army veteran serving with the 508th Airborne Regimental Combat Team at Fort Benning, Ga. He moved to Florida after his retirement in 1986.
Survivors include a son, Jim Rittenour Jr. of Panama City, Fla.; two daughters, Linda Rittenour Closson of Salem, Ala., and Lisa (Tim) De Waele of Dexter, Mich.; six stepchildren; and 10 grandchildren, 10 stepgrandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Donald "Don" Rittenour.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Eckard-Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, Akron. Burial will be in Mount Peace cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3383.
Celina
CHARLES E. DEITRICK, 67, died Feb. 12, 2004, at Plus Health Care Center, Lima.

ERMAL DOCK, 99, died at 12:15 p.m. Feb. 12 2004, at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home.

Alger
JOYCE COOK FRIESNER, 55, died at 5:33 p.m. Feb. 11, 2004, at her residence, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born June 21, 1948, in Kenton, to Arlene Risner, who preceded her in death. On June 11, 1966, she married
Robert W. Cook, who died Sept. 18, 1994. On July 15, 2000, she married
Harold Friesner, who survives in Alger.
Mrs. Friesner retired as a teacher from Upper Scioto Valley Elementary School. She was a member of Alger First United Methodist Church and its Action Class. She was a member of the board of the Alger Public Library. She was a graduate of Upper Scioto Valley High School. She received her bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University and her master's degree from the University of Dayton.
Survivors also include two daughters, Jodi Cook of Columbus and Deanna Cook of Lima; a nephew, Jeff (Felicia) Thompson of Alger; two stepdaughters, Nikki (Michael) Blank of Columbus and Kelly (Brian) Gephart of Lima; a stepson, Phil (Angie) Friesner of Muskegon, Mich.; two brothers, Ronnie (Trina) Risner of Alger and Jack (Bernie) Risner of Columbus; two sisters, Patsy (Tony) Brand of Alger and Rita (Brian) Thompson of Roundhead; and five grandchildren, Ross, Dylan and Evan Thompson, Kassie Blank and Ian Friesner.
She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Cook.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Alger First United Methodist Church. Pastor Frank Smith and the Rev Calvin Waugh will officiate. Burial will be in Preston cemetery, Alger.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

GILBERT HIRSCHFELD, 94, died at 2:15 p.m. Feb. 11, 2004, at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys. The Revs. John Craner and Gene Hegemier will officiate. Private burial services will be in Lock Two cemetery, New Bremen.

ANNA E. "ANNIE" KATTERHENRY, 79, died at 8:45 a.m. Feb. 12, 2004, at Hospice of the Valley, Mesa, Ariz.
Services will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys. The Rev. Kim Bayless will officiate. Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery, St. Marys.

DARLEEN R. KOVACH, 65, of Apopka, Fla., formerly of Lima, died Feb. 11, 2004, in Florida.
Mrs. Kovach had been a librarian in Lima for 25 years. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Apopka, Fla.
Survivors include three children, Joe Kovach of Apopka, Fla., Lori Muleski of Lima and Mick Kovach of Sagamore Hills; a brother, Ronald Gorski of Warren, Mich.; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Apopka, Fla.

Lima
JOHN P. SCIRANKA Sr., 80, died at 5:45 p.m. Feb. 10, 2004, at Lost Creek Care Center.
He was born June 20, 1923, in Lima to George and Barbara Hugjak Sciranka, who preceded him in death. On June 26, 1948, he married
Mary Louise Adkins, who died April 10, 1981.
Mr. Sciranka retired in 1981 as a laborer from Clark Equipment Co., after 39 years. He was a lifelong member of St. John Catholic Church, Lima. He was a life member of Buckeye Boys State, which he attended in 1940, and Knights of Columbus 2661. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 199. He was a volunteer at the YWCA and St. Rita's Healthy Lifestyle Center at the Lima Mall. He was a Navy veteran serving in the Construction Battalion (Seabees) from Aug. 20, 1943, to March 19, 1946.
He was proud of his Slovak heritage and proud to be a first generation American. He loved fishing, growing vegetables and baking. He loved people and people loved him. His favorite saying was,"I've never met a stranger." He enjoyed talking to everyone he saw. He had a special place in his heart for the less fortunate and those who suffered a disability.
Survivors include three sons, John P. (Brenda) Sciranka and Tom P. (Lisa) Sciranka, both of Lima, and Andrew G. Sciranka of Delphos; two daughters, Deborah A. Harper of Lima and Kristina M. (Stephen) Hahn of Waynesfield; and a sister, Mary (Carl) Burgess of Lima.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and George Sciranka Jr.; and two sisters, Anna Sciranka and Barbara Christoff.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Catholic Church, Lima. The Rev. Henry Sattler, C.SS.R., will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.

Mount Victory
AVONELL SIMPSON, 85, died at 12:14 p.m. Feb. 11, 2004, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
She was born May 6, 1918, in Hardin County to Clarence R. and Mary Ethel Overly Temple, who preceded her in death. On July 7, 1936, in Greenup, Ky., she married
Richard Marlowe Simpson, who died April 20, 1992.
Mrs. Simpson was a homemaker and had worked at several restaurants in Mount Victory. She was a member of Mount Victory United Methodist Church and its WSCS where she served as president for several years. She had been a volunteer dispatcher for the Mount Victory Fire.
Survivors include two daughters, Rose Marie (Richard) Arn of Uhrichsville and Sue (Michael) Bender of Lima; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and two sisters-in-law, Louise Arborgast of Belle Center and Miriam Jackson of Marysville.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Loren and Clayton Temple.
Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. today at Price Funeral Home, Mount Victory. Burial will be in Hale cemetery, Mount Victory.
