Van Wert
MARY V. GOODWIN, 86, formerly of Elgin, died at 11:15 p.m. Dec. 4, 2003, at Van Wert Manor Nursing Home.
She was born July 12, 1917, in Spencerville to Van B. and Emma Masters Myers Sr., who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Goodwin retired as a painter from Ohio Decorative Co., Spencerville, after 20 years. She had also worked at Continental Can Co., Van Wert. She had been a member of Olive Chapel United Methodist Church, Converse. She had served on the Elgin Village Council for 30 years. She was a 1935 graduate of Spencerville High School.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara A. (Max) Barrientos and Donna L. (Glenn) Pontius, both of Van Wert; two sisters, Ruby Mullenhour of Delphos and Gayla (Donald) Will of Lima; two grandsons, Lance Barrientos and Matthew Barrientos, both of Van Wert; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Ross Barrientos and Nathan and Bethany Kline; and her favorite companion dog, Sadie Bug.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Van B. Myers Jr.; and a sister, Cleyla Simindinger.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. The Revs. Paul W. Miller and Virgil Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Wright cemetery, near Converse.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the activities fund at Van Wert Manor Nursing Home.

JUDY ARIEL LYLE, 54, died at 9:50 a.m. Dec. 5, 2003, at Lima Memorial Hospital.

New Cleveland
WALTER WESKIEL, 84, died at 10:40 a.m. Dec. 5, 2003, at Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa.
He was born March 5, 1919, in Poland to Joseph and Teckla Weskiel, who preceded him in death. On July 15, 1947, he married
Eugenia Beiga, who survives in New Cleveland.
Mr. Weskiel had been self-employed as a plasterer. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, New Cleveland.
Survivors also include a son, John Weskiel of Lima; three daughters, Donna (Vern) Karhoff of Columbus Grove, Helen (Andrew) Doboze of North Vernon, Ind., and Susan (Dan) Hermiller of Miller City; and six grandchildren, Joshua, Andrew and Brent Hermiller and Stephanie, Lisa and Renee Karhoff.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Cleveland. The Rev. Robert DeSloover will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Spencerville
AARON J. "ART" AUSTIN, 85, died at 5:15 p.m. Feb. 12, 2004, at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home, Spencerville, where he resided for the last year.
He was born Sept. 28, 1918, in Peru, Ind., to Altie and Emma Scheppelman Austin, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 31, 1983, he married
Dee M. Bendele, who survives in Montezuma.
Mr. Austin retired in 1985 as a tool and die maker supervisor at Hayes-Albion/Trim Trends Corp. in Bryan and Spencerville, after 35 years. He and his wife had been owners of the Curiosity Shop, St. Marys, and other antique shops in Spencerville and Scotts Crossing. He was a member of American Legion Post 714, Fort Jennings and Brands Lake Fishing Club, Wapakoneta. He was a 1936 graduate of North Side High School, Fort Wayne, Ind. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving as a firefighter. He had played Santa Claus for the Spencerville retail merchants.
Survivors also include five daughters, Carol Engler of Bryan, Anita (Gary) Paul of Fort Loramie, Sandra (George) Gardner of Warner Robins, Ga., Cheryl (Richard) Rosser of San Diego and Julie (Jerry) Fetzer of Spencerville; two sons, Robert (Shirley) Austin of Byron, Ga., and Theodore (Linda) Austin of Wapakoneta; a sister, Velma Gick of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a niece, Ann Saylor of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and two nephews, Richard Gick and Robert Gick, both of Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was preceded in death by a son, Edward Austin; a daughter, Arlene Trausch; and a grandchild.
Private family services will be held at a later date.

GEORGE E. CLAPPER, 89, died at 8:40 a.m. Feb. 13, 2004, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born June 29, 1914, in Paw Paw, Mich., to Boyd and Edith Brown Clapper, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 5, 1939, he married
Marian L. Zimmerly, who died June 7, 1997.
Mr. Clapper was a farmer and had worked at Ex-Cell-O Corp., Bluffton. He was a member of Bethel Church of Christ, Ada. He was a 1932 graduate of Ada High School. He loved animals and woodworking.
Survivors include two daughters, Marlene Loescher of Westerville and Betty (Jack) May of Lima; a brother, Boyd (Phoebe) Clapper of Ada; a sister, Elizabeth Walker of San Antonio; three grandchildren, Amber Wells, Jack (Lisa) May and Julie (Troy) Mohr; and seven great-grandchildren, Kayla May, Jackie May, Caitlyn Conley, Lauren Mohr, Nathan Mohr, Hannah Mohr and Tyler Mohr.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Bluffton Chapel. The Rev. Harrison Underwood and Thurman Grass will officiate. Burial will be in Clymer cemetery, near Mount Cory.
