Ruby Arsula Miller, 89, passed away at 2:50 pm, December 14, 2014, at Lima Manor Nursing Home.
Ruby was born February 21, 1925 in Pleasant Township to James L. and Cora Mae (Taylor) Fruchey who preceded her in death. On December 31, 1946 she married
Harold L. Miller who preceded her in death on May 17, 1988.
She was a nurses aid for Lima Memorial Hospital and area nursing homes. She was a member of The Salvation Army where she was a Junior church leader for 15 years, a Sunday School and a Bible teacher.
Survivors include: 3 Sons, Howard L. Miller of Lancaster, Marvin (Geraldine) Miller and Joe L. Miller of Lima; 4 Daughters, Pamela Kay McKee of Atlanta, GA, Ruby K. (Randy) Greenland, Mary Jane (Jim) Dunson, and Connie J. Hall all of Lima; 24 Grandchildren, 35 Great-Grandchildren, Several Great-Great-Grandchildren; a Sister, Donna Lutz of Bluffton.
She was preceded in death by: a Son, Paul Lester Miller; 4 Brothers, Charles L., George D., James L., and Ted M. Fruchey; 5 Sisters, Olive L. Dunlap, Cordelia Dirzinski, June Bambaloff, Evelyn Meyer, and Helen Laman; a Special Friend, Fleming C. "J.R." Bower Jr.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 17 at EASTSIDE CHAPEL OF CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES with Major Pamm McKee and Howard Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Ward cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 - 8 p.m. today, December 16 at Eastside Chapel.

Wanda M. Smith
September 5, 1954 - December 13, 2014
Resided in Lima, OH
Wanda M. Smith, 83 of Shawnee Township in Lima, died peacefully listening to Amazing Grace at 8:31 p.m. on December 13, 2014 at St. Rita's Hospital with her family at her side.
She was born August 28, 1931, in Logan County, the daughter of Mary Ruth Weiser and Wardner Leroy Wallace, who preceded her in death. On September 5, 1954, she married
Robert E. Smith who survives her and received one last kiss before Wanda departed.
Other survivors include her daughter Karen (Myron) Terlecky, her son Randy (Anita) Smith; her granddaughters Sara (Chris) Barrett, Teresa (Brandon) Autrey, Kate Terlecky, Jen (Derek) Kaverman, Carrie Terlecky, Sol Fabbro, Liz Smith & Stephie Smith; her great-grandchildren, Preston Barrett, Addie Green and Gabriella Barrett. She is also survived by her sisters, Alberta Fulkerson and Florence (Kenneth) Whisman, her brother Roy (Mary Ann) Wallace and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded by her brothers, Bill, Carroll, Harold and Albert, and her sisters, Katherine, Martha and Mary Evelyn.
Her most treasured accomplishment was her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister and aunt to a large family. She loved family events, vacations and holidays; anything that brought her dear family together. She was always proud that all 8 of her granddaughters had her same caring, compassionate and determined spirit.
She had many friends and in fact, never knew a stranger. Many of her friends have passed over the years but Stephen Michael, her beautician, Carla, her volunteer partner at Lima Memorial Hospital and Jackie, her home assistant were all special and dear friends to Wanda over the years.
She had a distinguished career in nursing with a degree from Lima Memorial Hospital and an advanced nursing degree from the University of Chicago. She became the head nurse of Obstetrics at Lima Memorial Hospital. Then, she decided to share her passion for nursing with teenage students and started the diversified health curriculum at Apollo Career Center where she impacted hundreds of lives.
Wanda was an avid reader who could never put down a book. She loved to travel to faraway places like Alaska and Hawaii. She was an intense competitor whether playing bridge, golfing or board games with her grandkids.
Services will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 11:30 am at the Shawnee Community United Methodist Church. Rev. Bryan Bucher will officiate the service. Burial will be in Shawnee cemetery following the service.
Friends may call Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Chiles Laman Funeral and Cremation Services – Shawnee Chapel.
Memorial Contributions will be used to establish a scholarship in Wanda's name for a nursing student at Apollo Career Center.
Genevieve E. Fast
June 1, 1927 - May 17, 2015

Genevieve Elaine (Buhler) Fast, innovative teacher, oil painter, and beloved mother of four, is now resting in eternal peace. Genevieve passed away on May 17, 2015 from complications of pancreatic cancer. She was born in Bluffton, Ohio, on June 1, 1927 and was the oldest of four children born to Leucile and Gerhard Buhler. She lived in Bluffton throughout her primary, secondary, and post-secondary schooling. Genevieve graduated from Bluffton College in May, 1948 with dual degrees in Biology and Home Economics, and she went to The Ohio State University to complete her State Vocational Degree in Home Economics. She completed college in three years after meeting her fiancé, Peter G. Fast, whom she married
on August 22, 1948.
Genevieve went on to teach high school in both Indiana and California. She enjoyed the creative nature of teaching and helping young people develop their full potential. She was also a department chair during her teaching career in several Fresno Unified School District high schools.
Genevieve and Peter travelled frequently both in the U.S. and abroad. After retirement, they moved to Neuwied, Germany to assist Mennonite Central Committee in its work of resettling refugees after the Berlin Wall fell. After returning home to Fresno, California, she pursued her hobbies: oil painting, which she started at age 68; water aerobics; volunteering at St. Agnes Hospital and also with her local church; and watching sporting events, especially the Fresno State Bulldog Football games. During fall 2008, Genevieve and Peter moved back to Bluffton, Ohio.
Genevieve is survived by her four children and their spouses, Cheryl Berz, Dohn and Jeanette Fast, Gary and Taci Fast, and Janita and Richard Rawls; her ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. Genevieve's sisters and spouses, Joanne and Leland Voth, Inez Buhler, and Ruth and Ken Graber, are also surviving. Genevieve is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Peter, her parents, and her brother, Sam.
A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. October 31, 2015 at First Mennonite Church, Bluffton, Ohio where Genevieve was most recently a member. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be donated to Mennonite Central Committee, Mennonite Disaster Service, Bluffton College Buhler Scholarship Fund, or Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio. Genevieve's family wishes to thank the Mennonite Memorial Home and Maple Crest staff in Bluffton, Ohio, for the care and attention they gave Genevieve in the last years and hours of her life.
Howard E. "Gene" Taylor
December 3, 1936 - March 12, 2013

Howard E. "Gene" Taylor, 76, died at 4:36 a.m. March 12, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 3, 1936, in Waynesfield to Fred and Mary Simpson Taylor, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 14, 1960, he married
Janet Gallaway, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Taylor was a member of Lima Baptist Temple. He had worked at Sheller-Globe/Superior Coach for more than 20 years and then at Westinghouse Electric Corp. and Teledyne Steel. He and his wife had been presidents of the Bath Music Association. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of its honor guard.
Survivors also include a daughter, Jeanne (Terry) Sawmiller; a son, David (Becky) Taylor; and a sister-in-law, Della Rekart, of Sun City West, Ariz.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel. Pastor Jerry Burton will officiate. Burial will be in Shawnee cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lima Baptist Temple.
Miriam Connor Hamer
August 20, 1912 - July 14, 2015

Miriam Connor Hamer, age 102, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 14, 2015. She was born to Carl and Amelia Schubert in Pittsburgh, PA on August 20, 1912.
Miriam graduated from high school at age sixteen and went to work at Westinghouse where she met and married
Lloyd Connor. While residing in Mansfield, OH, they had two daughters, Martha and Muriel. Their move to Lima in 1942 centered around church and community. Lloyd passed away in 1964. Miriam later married
a longtime friend, Paul Hamer who passed in 1996.
Miriam loved life - her faith, family and many bridge playing friends were very important to her. She served her church (Trinity UMC) as a greeter and in the Women's Society. She was bookkeeper for the Luggage Shop for many years before its closing; also was a presiding judge for the Allen County election board. Unfortunately Miriam's later years were overtaken by dementia. Yet until the end, she remained a lovely, sweet human being.
She is survived by her two daughters and spouses: Martha Carson and Jim, and Muriel Myers and Steve, and two nieces: Connie Greenwald and Phyllis Kirbabus. She is also survived by six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Her only sibling, Ruth, predeceased her as well as a great-grandson, Tom Carson, and her stepson, Bob Hamer and his two children.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church, with a luncheon to follow.
Emmett W. Todd

On July 26, 2015 Emmett W. Todd passed away. He was the beloved husband of the late Theresa M. Todd; father of Brenda L. Steinhoff, K.E. Todd and the late Chad M. Todd; step-father of Carole L. Randall, Leigh M. Williams and the late Debbie Edwards and the late Mike Green; dear brother of Betty Maine; he was also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Relatives and friends may gather at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton on Saturday from 11:00am-12:30pm where a funeral service will be held at 12:30pm. Pastor David Good officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove cemetery (Bluffton, OH). Dorothy L. Gay
July 14, 1934 - July 30, 2015

Dorothy Lou Gay, 81, passed away July 30, 2015 at Lima Memorial Hospital. Dorothy was born July 14, 1934 in Michigan to Allery and Vera (Verbicht) Rice who preceded her in death. On November 10, 1956 she married
James Gay who preceded her in death on June 13, 2013.
Dorothy had been a homemaker. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing cards with her husband and friends Stella and George and attending football games.
Survivors include a son James (Lorraine) Gay of Beaverdam; three daughters Vera (Anthony) Vernell of Delaware, Ohio, Jennifer (David) Deeds of Lima, Nancy (Steve) Schramm of Beaverdam; eighteen grandchildren; forty-one great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Dorothy was preceded in death by three brothers Gene Rice, Francis John Rice, James Rice; a sister, Alice Alexander and one great grandchild.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday August 3, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton. Pastor Sam Wireman officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date in Memorial Park cemetery, Lima. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
