JOHN NICHOLAS FREY,
85, died at 7:44 p.m. January 9, 2001, at Lost Creek Care Center.
He was born July 23, 1915, in Spencerville to Otto John and Gertrude Kantnar Frey. On October 14, 1935, he married
Virginia Mack, who died June 5, 2000.
Mr. Frey retired in 1980 as a pipefitter from Westinghouse Electric Corp. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple and the Westinghouse Electric Veterans Association.
Survivors include a son, John (Ruth) Frey of Lima; two daughters, Sally Frey Shelley of Erlanger, KY., and Sandra Frey (Jim) Ridings of Staunton, Va.; a sister, Anna Mary Ritter of Wapakoneta; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Holman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Wapakoneta.

LOUISE B. GOUGH,
82, died at 2:42 p.m. April 1, 2001, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born December 21, 1918, in West Leipsic to Everett and Nellie B. Bogard Buckland. On December 29, 1942, she married
John C. Gough, who survives.
Mrs. Gough had worked as a secretary for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and for the Navy Department, both in Washington D.C., and at Superior Coach, Lima, She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, and its Faith Circle. She was past officer and member of the Order of Eastern Star, Leipsic.
Survivors also include two daughters, Linda Gough Cravatt of Toledo and Elizabeth Ann Gough Page of Lima; a brother, Richard C. Buckland of Leipsic, and a sister, Ruth E. Molter of Maumee.
A brother, Dwight Buckland, preceded her in death.
Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Rahel Hahn will officiate. Burial will be in Shawnee cemetery.

VERNON WILLIAM HARRUFF,
74, died at 5:15 p.m. April 2, 2001, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born March 29, 1927, in Spencerville to Albert and Jessie Cooper Harruff. On April 11, 1948, he married
Peggy Clay, who survives.
Mr. Harruff retired in 1986 from Homelite-Textron, Charlotte, N.C., and worked part-time at the Carlton House. He was a member of Shawnee United Methodist Church. He was a life member of American Legion Post 191, Spencerville. He was a member of the North Carolina Sertoma, where he had served as district governor. He was a 1945 graduate of Spencerville High School and attended Ohio Northern University, Ada. He was a Navy veteran.
Survivors also include three daughters, Marilyn (John) Bell of Bellefontaine, Sharon (Michael) England of Lima and Julie (Steve) Miller of Laurinburg, N. C.; a brother, Robert Harruff of Spencerville; and eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Four brothers, Dale, Charles, Cloyd and Merle Harruff preceded him in death.
Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Doris Proctor will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 191 at 4: 00 p.m. Saturday in New Salem cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

GAIL W. FLARIDA,
81 died at 9:25 a.m. April 5, 2001, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born February 23, 1920, to John William and Hazel Eddy Flarida. On August 24, 1946, he married
Jean Hamilton, who died August 1, 1986. In 1990 he married
Gertrude Marshall Hendrickson, who survives.
Mr. Flarida retired as an engineer from Buckeye Pipe Line. He was a member of Shawnee Church of Christ. He was a 53-year member of Lodge 706 Free and Accepted Masons, member and past commander of Commandery 94 Knights Templar, Allentown, Pa., a member of the Scottish Rite Association, Capter 49 Royal Arch Masons and Council 20 Royal and Select Masons. He was a member of American Legion Post 191, Spencerville, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 54, the Buckeye Annuitants and the Westgate Lanes Senior Citizens Bowling League, He was an Army Air Forces Veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific.
Survivors also include two sons, Steven Flarida of San Jose, CA., and Craig (Cheryl) Flarida of Leander, Texas; a stepson, Prentice (Judy) Hendrickson of New Carlisle; a daughter, Diane (Craig) Gallaher of Elida; and four grandchildren, two step grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Stanley and David Flarida preceded him in death.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry Molaski will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

JOHN ROBERT BAKER,
76, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Lima, died at 4 a.m. April 6, 2001, at Integrated Specialty Hospital of Midwest City, Midwest City, Okla.
He was born May 28, 1924, in Lima to Jesse and Fairy Leming Baker. On November 22, 1944, he married
Blanche Adams, who died April 16, 1999.
Mr. Baker had been owner of Baker Construction Co. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He was a member of American Legion Post 96, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191, Spencerville, the Disabled American Veterans and the Order of the Purple Heart. He was a World War II Veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandy (Dave) Custer of Oklahoma City; and a granddaughter.
Services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Hap Iton will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 191.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.

RONALD D. HICKEY,
62, died at 11:45 a.m. April 6, 2001, at his residence.
He was born October 4, 1938, in Lima to Enos and Gladys Martin Hickey. He married
LaDonna Tippie, who survives.
Mr. Hickey had worked at Sauer Brothers and First Roofing.
Survivors also include a son, Brian (Robin) Hickey Sr. of Ada; two sisters, Jacqueline Volvert and Kathleen Gross, both of Lima; and three grandchildren.
Six brothers, Eugene, Clarence, Robert, Richard, Dwight and Joe hickey preceded him in death.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Mark Vernik will officiate. Burial will be in Shawnee cemetery.

ALFRED CARL HORSTMAN,
71, died at 9:40 p.m. April 7, 2001, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born December 13, 1929, in Cloverdale to Herman C. and Mary Maas Horstman. He had been married
to Leona Roof, who survives. On July 3, 1971, he married
Bessie E. Clagg Duncan, who also survives.
Mr. Horstman retired from the Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant, after 29 years, and had been owner and operator of the Lima Engine Bar and Fayli Lounge. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 and United AutoWorkers Local 1219. He was a 1948 graduate of Kalida High School. He enjoyed NASCAR and basketball.
Survivors also include seven sons; Alfred (Sandy) Horstman Jr. of Ottawa, John (Shirley) Horstman of Continental, Dennis (Tricia) Horstman and Dale (Carolyn) Horstman, all of Cloverdale, and Phillip (Debbie) Horstman of Columbus; two stepsons, Keith (Natalie) Duncan of Lima and Kenny (Judy) Duncan of Westminster; five stepdaughters, Donna (Ellis) Jenkins of Cairo, Joan (Darrell) Tidd, Patricia (Bate) Lemaster and Cynthia (Bernard) Zwiebel, all of Lima and Judy (Robert) Watson of Springdale, Ark.; two stepbrothers, Maynard Koester and Robert Koester, both of Delphos; two sisters, Luella “Lu” Schroeder of Leipsic and Leonarda “Nardie” Kuhlman of Cloverdale; a stepsister, Sally Altenburger of Delphos’ and 37 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother; Arthur Horstman; his stepmother; Odela Koester Horstman; and three grandchildren and an infant great grandson.
Services will begin a 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. David Caywell will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
