BERNICE SLONAKER COE,
88, died at 8:57 p.m. April 9, 2001, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
She was born January 8, 1913, in Jackson Center to Delphos and Ida Hughes Vansky. She married
Richard Heath Slonaker, who died in 1975. In 1979 she married
John P. Coe, who died in 1985.
Mrs. Coe retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co., after 38 years, having worked in the sporting goods, hardware and television departments. She was a member and on the boards of the Senior Citizens and the Council on Aging, both in Delphos.
Survivors include a son, Richard C. (Sharon) Slonaker of Lima; two daughters, Ginger (Bob) Rex of Lima and Mary (Jim) Binkley of Wooster; a stepdaughter, Jane (Mike) Engle of Wapakoneta; and 16 grandchildren, 10 step grand children and several great and step great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Dean Neff and James Slonaker; a stepson, John Coe; and a stepdaughter, Ruth Morton, preceded her in death.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Russ Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

CARL J. SMITH,
87, died at 9:01 a.m. April 11, 2001, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born December 5, 1913, in Lima to George and Mary Biracree Smith. On November 17, 1940, he married
Katherine Early, who died December 8, 1982. On August 6, 1986, he married
Violet Ballinger, who survives.
Mr. Smith had worked as a maintenance man for the Lima City schools. He was a member of Hawthorne Hills Country Club, the Disabled American Veterans and the Order of the Purple Heart. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.
Survivors also include a son, Robert Smith of Phoenix; two stepsons, Ron Miller of Lima and Jim (Denise) Miller of Wapakoneta; a daughter, Kay (James) Malloy of Lima; a stepdaughter, Sue (Gary) Hermon of Lima; a sister, Mary Ruth Blackburn of Columbus; and eight grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Paul and Richard Smith preceded him in death.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Bob Ferrell will officiate. Burial will be in Rockport cemetery, Monroe Township, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

F. JACK REDDING JR.
77, died at 12:49 a.m. April 12, 2001, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born June 1, 1923, in Lima to Floyd J. and Ethel Bertha Paul Redding. On May 8, 1946, he married
Mary M. Bergfeld, who survives.
Mr. Redding had worked as a commercial artist, at Neon Products, the Lima Public Library and at Essex. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. He was an Army Air Forces veteran. He was a musician playing with several local bands.
Survivors also include three sons, David P. (Susan) Redding and Tim J. (Elaine) Redding, both of Lima, and Jeffrey J. (Bridgette) Redding of Cincinnati; four daughters, Caroline A. (Frank) Lanczak, Suzanne M. Bryan and Julie A. Redding, all of Lima, and M. Lisa (Fred) Ferguson of Ada; a sister, Shirley A. Sweeney of Kettering; and 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church. The Rev. David M. Ross will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will be held at 4 p.m.

BESSIE IONA BURGOON ROEDER
99, died at 1:40 p.m. April 12, 2001, at the Lima Convalescent Center.
She was born October 18, 1901, in Uniopolis to Arthur and Effie Hester Burgoon. On April 1, 1923, she married
Franklin Earl Roeder, who died March 21, 1999.
Mrs. Roeder was a homemaker and had worked at the Citizens Bank. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist. She was a member of the Aidette Club and Lima Art Association. She had played the piano for the South Side Church of Christ Orchestra and for local minstrels. She was a graduate of Lima South High School and Lima Business College.
Survivors include a son, Raymond (Pat) rowdier of Clarkston, MI.; two daughters, Earlene (Ray) Jones and Shirley (Joe) Ballinger, both of Lima; and 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild.
Memorial services will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Reader Richard Black will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

C. KATHRYN SEDLACK
89, died at 9:30 p.m. April 13, 2001, at Otterbein-Cridersville.
She was born November 25, 1911, in Piqua to Charles H. and Amelia Bryan Spayd. She married
James P. Sedlack, who died February 25, 1981.
Mrs. Sedlack was formerly in real estate sales. She was a member of Forest Park United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was recognized for many hours of service. She was a member of East Side Boosters.
Survivors include a sister, Mildred Marie Adams of Lima, and several nieces and nephews.
Three brothers, Charles H Spayd Jr., Aaron P. Spayd and Robert T. Spayd also preceded her in death.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry D. Hopkins will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

FREDERICK E. “BUTCH” MORGAN
80, died at 8:30 p.m. April 14, 2001, at Paradise Oaks Quality Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Cloverdale.
He was born January 6, 1921, in Charleston, W. VA., to Homer and Nellie O’Dell Morgan. He married
Marjorie Whetslor, who died June 25, 1979. His fiancée, Bernie Houck, survives in Continental.
Mr. Morgan retired from Westinghouse Electric Corp., after 44 years. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54 and the Westinghouse Veterans Retirees Association. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, Lima, and American Legion Post 541, Continental. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a brother, George (Janice) Morgan of Lima; and a sister, Mildred Roush of Lima.
Two brothers, Harry and Ray Morgan preceded him in death.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Vasko will officiate. Burial will be in Preston cemetery, Alger, with military rites by VFW Post 1275.

ESTELLA MARIE MUSTO
79, died at 9:40 a.m. April 17, 2001, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
She was born June 11, 1921, in Bowling Green to Orin and Esther Collins Wagner. In 1946 she married
Reynold L. Musto, who died October 2, 1993.
Mrs. Musto had worked at the Army Tank Depot. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church. She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons, Reynold “Renny’ (Pam) Musto of Elida and Carmen (fiancée Cheryl Kantner) Musto of St. Marys; a sister, Arietta E. “Cookie” Collins of Cleveland; and seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A sister, Doris Elizabeth Wagner, preceded her in death.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Vincent Hoying will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery.
