WILLIAM E. “BILL” CASEY,
76, died at 11:45 p.m. September 7, 2002 at his daughter’s residence.
He was born July 20, 1926, in Lima to Michael L. and Catherine Sullivan Casey, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Casey retired as a brakeman from Norfolk & Southern Railroad, formerly Nickel Plate Railroad. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, where he had served on the firing squad, American Legion Post 96, AMVETS Post #1 and the Railroad Retirement Club. He was the lead singer in Casey’s Back Porch Band. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two sons, George (Pam) Casey and Sean (Shawn) Casey, both of Lima, four daughters, Terry (Eugene) Lamb, Becky (Steve) Garrett, Colleen Miller and Corinne (Billy) Garland, all of Lima, four brothers, Tom of Toledo, Frank of Wapakoneta and Tim and Mike, both of Lima, a sister, Catherine “Caddy” of Lima, 18 grandchildren, Sharon, Karena, Jeff, Jason, Taryn, Stephanie, Ashly, Johnny, Billy, Joey, Austin, Jessica, Ben, Beth, Matthew, Nicki, Kevin and Brandon, and four great grandchildren, Michael, Kennedy, Delaney and Jordan.
He was preceded in death by three sons, John Michael, Roger David and Richard Eugene Casey, four brothers, Bob, Dan, Gene and Dick, and five sisters, Mary, Rose, Esther, Noreen and Geraldine.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Rose Catholic Church. The Rev. Christopher Vasko will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a VFW Memorial Service will be held at 6: 45 p.m. and a parish wake service at 8 p.m.

MARCI MICHELLE HICKS,
31, died 12:40 P.M. September 8, 2002, from injuries suffered in a train/truck accident near DeGraff.
She was born February 6, 1971, in Lima to Romine and Marjorie Conley Hicks. Her father survives in Lima. Her mother and stepfather, Marjorie and Joe H. Rivers, survive in Lima. Her fiancé, Don Dinton, died in the same accident.
Miss Hicks had worked as a certified nurse’s aide at Springview Manor and Lima Manor nursing homes and was training to be a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of Lima Baptist Temple. She was a graduate of Allen East High School. She grew up in the Allen East School District.
Survivors also include three brothers, Barry Hicks and Darin L. Hicks, both of Lima, and William P. (Linda) Hicks of Dunkirk, and a sister, Kathy Brown of Lima.
Her three sons, Artoris Rondale, Natoris Mardale and Datoris Shawndale Hicks, all died from injuries in the same accident. A brother, Jeffery Michael hicks, preceded her in death.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Green will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

DATORIS SHAWNDALE HICKS,
11, died at 12:40 p.m. September 8, 2002, from injuries suffered in a train/truck accident near DeGraff.
He was born February 28, 1991, in Lima to Arthur Carter and Marci M. Hicks. His father survives. His mother died in the same accident.
Datoris had attended Whittier Elementary School, where he was in the fifth grade. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church. He had played football on the Bulldog’s Midget League Team.
Survivors include three brothers, Cory Spence and Quincy Spence, both of Lima, and Jermaine Spence of Columbus, a sister, Terrish Spence of Lima, paternal grandfather, Willie L. Carter of Lima, and maternal grandparents, Romine Hicks and Marjorie (Joe H.) Hicks-Rivers.
His two brothers, Artoris Rondale and Natoris Mardal Hicks, died from injuries in the same accident. He was preceded in death by paternal grandmother Pearl Carter.

NATORIS MARDALE HICKS,
10, died at 12:40 p.m. September 8, 2002, from injuries suffered in a train/truck accident near DeGraff.
He was born March 16, 1992, in Lima to Arthur Carter and Marci M. Hicks. His father survives. His mother died in the same accident.
Natoris had attended Freedom Elementary School, where he was in the fourth grade. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

TIM D. SURFACE,
38, died at 8:15 p.m. September 8, 2002, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.
He was born April 11, 1964, in Wilmington to Ira E. and Erma J. Hauser surface, who survive in Oregonia. His companion, Vicki Vaden survives in Lima.
Mr. surface was owner and operator of ABC Plumbing co. He was an avid motorcyclist.
Survivors also include a son, Isaac Timothy Surface of Lima, a daughter, Shannon Renee Surface of New Berlin, Pennsylvania, two brothers, Scott C. Surface Sr. of Hillsboro and Michael T. Surface of Xenia, a sister, Sandy (David) Pratt of Oregonia, three nephews, Scott C. Surface Jr., Kevin A. Surface and Michael Chad Surface, and three nieces, Jennifer N. Surface, Tiffany S. Pratt and Amy M. Surface.
Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. today at Chamber-Huckeriede Funeral Home where a motorcycle ride will follow services. The Rev. Dr. Joseph Bishman will officiate. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, Wilmington. Funeral will be in Mound cemetery, Monroe.
Friends may call 9 a.m. until time of services today at the funeral home in Lima and 11 a.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home in Wilmington.

ARTORIS RONDALE HICKS,
12, died at 10:15 a.m. September 9, 2002, at Children’s Hospital, Columbus, from injuries suffered in a train/truck accident near DeGraff.
He was born September 25, 1989, in Lima to Arthur Carter and Marci M. Hicks. His father survives. His mother died in the same accident.
Artoris had attended South Middle School, where he was in the sixth grade. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include three brothers, Cory Spence and Quincy Spence, both of Lima and Jermaine Spence of Columbus, a sister, Terrisha Spence of Lima, paternal grandfather, Willie L. Carter of Lima, and Maternal grandparents, Romine Hicks and Marjorie (Joe H.) Hicks-Rivers.

BUDDY EARL RICE,
72, died at 1:45 P.M. at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born May 2, 1930 to Charles & Ruth (Schidibesh) Rice in Lima, Ohio, they preceded him in death. He was married
to Dorothy Marie (Shope) Rice, she survives in Lima.
He had worked for Ford Motor Company in the Maintenance Department.
Mr. Rice attended bible Missionary church, Lima, Ohio. He was a member of the Local 1219 UAW.
His survivors include three sons, Rev. Charles (Penney) Rice from Ashland, Kentucky, Timothy Rice from San Francisco, California, Dr. Sam (Beth) Rice from Mendotta Heights, MN. two daughters, Karen (John) Howells, from Colorado Springs, CO. and Alice (Roger) Towner Elwood, IN., Fifteen grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. One brother Henry (Jill) Rice, from Lima, and one sister Ruby (Glenn) Allemeier, Delphos, Ohio. Two grandchildren preceded him in death.
There will be no visitation.
There will be a Public graveside Service on September 16, 2002 at 10:00 A.M. at Fairmount cemetery, Wapakoneta.
