CHARLES EDWARD GUENIN,
87, died at 12:35 P.M. September 14, 2002, at Outlook Pointe At Lima.
He was born August 23, 1915, in Jackson Center, to Adam C. and Dora I. Funk Guenin, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Guenin was a life long member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and a life long member of the American Legion Post 96 and Disabled American Veterans. He graduated from Jackson Center High School in 1933 and then went to California with the Civil Counsel Course. In 1940, he volunteered with the Army 37th Division. He was sent to South Pacific, New Zealand, Fiji, Guadalcanal and Borganville. He was wounded north of Manila in the Philippines and was sent home in June 1945. He received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Silver Star.
Survivors include a stepson, Albert (Dana) Moore of Lima, a brother, Cory L. Guenin of Sandusky, two grandchildren, Allen (Melissa) Moore of Cloverdale and Shannon Moore of Lima, two great grandchildren, Brook and Taylor Moore, a nephew, Ronald Maloon of Jackson Center, a niece, Martha Thompson of Jackson Center, and caregiver, Derald (Dorothy) Clapper.
A sister, Martha Maloon, precedes him in death.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Ellis Itson will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery with military services by VFW Post 1275.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

DONALD W. “RED” SHIREMAN,
70, died at 12:05 p.m. October 1, 2002 at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born on December 25, 1931 in McCutchinsville, Ohio to Beach & Edith (Davidson) Shireman who preceded him in death. On December 6, 1951 he married
Esther (Lozier), who survives.
Mr. Shirman retired from Westinghouse. He was a member of New Creation Lutheran Church. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #96. Don enjoyed his family, traveling by RV, wood carving and gardening.
Survivors include one daughter, Debra (Richard) Idol from Lexington, NC., one son, Steven Shireman, Baltimore, MD., two brothers, Harry (Pat) Shireman and Glen (Ida) Shireman both from Perrysville, Ohio, one sister, Helen (Harry) Brokaw from Mansfield, Ohio, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 Saturday, October 5, 2002 at the Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville. The Rev. Rahel Hahn will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Perrysville.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Loudonville.

BARBARA E. FENTON,
64, died at 11 a.m. October 2, 2002, at her residence.
She was born October 22, 1937, in Lima to Oliver V. and Margaret L. Crumrine Moyer, who preceded her in death. On October 19, 1957, she married
Thomas Fenton, who survives.
Mrs. Fenton was a homemaker and had worked at St. Rita’s Medical Center and McCrory’s. She was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 199, American legion Post 96 and Orioles Nest 173. She was a 1956 graduate of St. Gerard’s Catholic School. She enjoyed playing Bunco and gambling. She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a dear friend to many.
Survivors also include four sons, Thomas (Patti Garcia) Fenton and Scott Fenton, both of Denver, and Todd Fenton and Rick Fenton, both of Lima; a daughter, Deborah (Jeff) Grothaus of Fort Wayne, Indiana, a brother, James (Judy) Moyer of Brentwood, Tennessee, three sisters, Kathleen Moyer and Rita Ross, both of Lima, and Nancy (Carl) Talley of Roanoke, Virginia, six grandchildren, Maria Fenton, Sarah Fenton, Chasity Boedecker, Jessica Grothaus, Jason (Tracey) Chad and Molly Grothaus, and several nephews and nieces.
A brother, Thomas Moyer and a sister, Marylou Spallinger, preceded her in death.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday.

JOAN ANNIS GASKIN,
67, died at 1:50 a.m. October 4, 2002, at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home.
She was born July 10, 1935, in Lima to Robert Adam and Rebecca Allen Cavinder, who preceded her in death. She married
Charles Franklin “Tiny” Gaskin, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Gaskin worked for Nickerson farms, Michigan. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. She was a Girl Scout in 1945 and a volunteer at St. Rita’s Hospital. She was a life member of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Command Unit 19 and was state Chaplin. She was a member of Adam G. Stelzer Navy Club Auxiliary #9 and a past commander. She was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, Lima. She was a member of Blue Star Mothers of American Chapter 15, Lima, and was recording Secretary, Chaplin, financial secretary, chapter president and USA chairwoman. She was a member of Blue Star Mothers of America Department of Ohio and served as financial secretary, recording secretary, vice president, and department president. USA chairwoman and drill team member. She was a member of Blue Star Mothers of America and served as treasurer, vice president and USA chairwoman. She was member of Blue Star Mothers of America Department of Ohio Big Dipper and was president and vice president.
Mrs. Gaskin was a member of Eastern Star-Koneta, vice president of LACNIP, and treasurer and president of Schoonover Park Neighborhood Association. In 1999, she started the Allen County Veteran Food Pantry. She was a charter member of Junior Order Eagles No. 137. She worked at the Service men’s canteen from 1951 to 1952. She was the first activity director of elderly nutrition. She was LACCA activity director. She worked at the Nickerson Farms Restaurant, as an assistant manager, Tony Comp district manager, delivered and collected for Larry Almond, was a bookkeeper and saleswoman for Niesner and Woolworth.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Dale Henderson of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Daniel Karlis Gaskin of Quincy, Michigan and Jeffery Howard Gaskin of Lima, four daughters, Candace “Candy” (Ted) Ansel, Mary Jean (Dennis) Schnieder and Melody Ann (Everett) Gay, all of Lima, and Mona Marie Gilby of Michigan, three brothers, Robert Cavinder of Lakeview and Lynn Cavinder and Robin Cavinder, both of Lima, and 31 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles ‘Gus” Gaskin III, and a grandson.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Episcopal Church. The Rev. Darwin Ralston will officiate. Burial will be in Cairo West cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a Blue Star Mothers service will be held at 6 p.m.

JOSEPH AZZARELLO,
90, died at 10:35 a.m. October 4, 2002, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born august 28, 1912, in Chicago Heights, Illinois, to Antonio and Catterina Venturella Azzarello, who preceded him in death. On October 27, 1946, he married
Mary J. Cecala, who died June 24, 2002.
Mr. Azzarello was a restaurateur, owning Alpine and Azzarello’s in Lima. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. He was a life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54, Lima. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. He loved baseball and he loved to fish and hunt. He was known for his cooking abilities.
Survivors include a son, Anthony “Tony” (Sandi) Azzarello of Lima, a daughter, Kathy (Richard) Brown of Lima, three grandchildren, Matthew J. Brown of Lima, Anthony J. R. Azzarello Jr. of Lima and Patrick (Amy) Azzarello of Bryan and two great-grandchildren, Josie M. Azzarello and Lane P. Azzarello.
Three brothers, Jimmie, Nickolas and Sam Azzarello and a sister, Lena LoBue, preceded him in death.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. today at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. The Rev. William J. Rose will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275.

FEDORA ROSE SPENCER,
79, died at 4:15 a.m. October 5, 2002, at Lima Health and Rehab Center.
She was born January 26, 1923, in Lima to Rizieri and Antonietta Pikari Franklin, who preceded her in death. On August 5,1945, in Lima, she married
Paul M. Spencer, who died in November 1961.
Mrs. Spencer was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church.
Survivors include three sons, Paul Spencer and John (Mary Grace) Spencer, both of Lima, and Roy Spencer of Raleigh, N.C., a daughter, Rochelle Hicks of Lima, a brother, Roy Franklin of Las Vegas, and nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A brother, Robert Franklin, preceded her in death.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

DERRY JON MICHAEL
62, died at 9:15 a.m. October 5, 2002 at his residence.
He was born December 31, 1939, in Lima to Paul A. and Anna Louise Wooley Holliday Michael, who preceded him in death. On November 18, 1997 in Ohio, he married
Tressie Coulter, who survives.
Mr. Michael retired as an inspector for Ford Motor Company, Lima. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 199, American Legion Post 96 and United Auto Workers Local 1219, all in Lima. He was an Air force Veteran.
Survivors also include two sons, Blaine E. (Kimberly) Michael of Harrod and Josh (Michael) Gilman of Richmond, Virginia, two daughters, Angie (Kevin) McKinley of Fairdale, Kentucky and Jodie A. (Jack) Thompson of Corydon, Indiana, four brothers, David L. (Sharon) Michael, Patrick A. (Nora) Michael, James W. Michael and Tom (Evelyn) Holliday, all of Lima, two sisters, Karen A. (Mel) Hiller of Lima and Lana K. (Lloyd) Adkins of Spencerville, three grandchildren, Sarah M. Siegferth, Tessa L. McKinley and Marissa A. Michael and three Step grandchildren, Chris Coulter, Ashley Coulter and Alyssa Coulter.
A brother, Jonnie Holliday, preceded him in death.
Services will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Jon Spyker will officiate. The body will be cremated.
