E. MADELENE “BABE” FLAVIN,
93, died at 3:35 a.m. January 9, 2003, at Lima Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born February 14, 1909, in Lima to Solomon H. and Lulu Daisy Hawk Ruff, who preceded her in death. She married
Denis P. Flavin, who died December 11, 1977.
Mrs. Flavin was a homemaker and had been a seamstress for several years, making costumes for Esther Damaris Toy and Creating wedding attire for several brides in Lima and the surrounding area. She was an avid bingo player and loved animals, especially cats. She also loved music and spending time with her family.
Survivors include a son, Philip L. (Carolyn) Flavin of Defiance; five daughters, Darlyn A. Bell, Erin J. Kelly and Shannon L. (Ric) Bratton, all of Lima, D. Denise (Stan) Linder of Greenville and Suzanne L. (David) Bowles of New Freedom, Pa.; two daughters-in-law, Nancy Flavin of Columbus and Jean Ann Flavin of Aurora, ILL., and 24 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald G. and Richard P. Flavin; two sons-in-law, Leo Bell and John Kelly; a brother, Willis Ruff; a sister, Hazel Emlinger; a grandchild, Thomas Flavin; and a great-grandchild, Mark Meister.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis Hartigan will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.

GLORIA J. GEORGE,
76, died at 11:50 p.m. January 9, 2003, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born October 26, in Lima to Russell L. and Helen M. Davis Rhoades, who preceded her in death. On May 29, 1943, in Kentucky, she married
Walter George.
Mrs. George was a homemaker and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary Post 1275 in Lima.
Survivors include two sons, Nicholas (Cheryl) George of Lima and Michael (Jill) George of Auburn Hills, Michigan; two daughters, Linda Moore of Lima and Susan (Richard) Garee of Elida; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ned Rhoades and a son-in-law, Michael Moore.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery in Lima.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

WILLIAM “BILLY” “B.J.” JAMES BRENTLINGER,
30, died at 10:20 a.m. January 10, 2003, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born June 6, 1972, in Lima to James J. and Carol J. McClellan Brentlinger, who survive in Lima.
Mr. Brentlinger was a former Orioles 173 member. He attended Lima Senior High School. He loved fishing, his dog Fuzzy and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Survivors also include a sister, Christina Brentlinger of Lima; and maternal grandmother Louise McClellan of Lima.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents James and Kathryn Brentlinger; and maternal grandfather William McClellan.
Services will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Earnest Stephens will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Mennonite cemetery, Gomer.

THOMAS WAYNE FLAVIN,
39, died at his residence in Columbus, Ohio.
preceded in death by is father, Richard P. Flavin. Survived by a daughter, Ashley Hensel, of Columbus, Ohio, His mother Jean Ann Flavin, of Aurora, Ill. Two brothers, Timothy Flavin and Dale Flavin, two nephews, Shawn and Jason Flavin, all of Columbus, Ohio, several aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
Family will receive friends 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, in the Long Funeral Home, 5528 Cleveland Avenue (one block south of St. Rt. 161). Additional calling hours, Monday, January 13, 2003, in the Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, 920 N. Cable Rd., Lima, Ohio, 11:00 a.m. until time of joint funeral Service with his grandmother E. “Babe” Madelene Flavin, which will follow at 2:00 p.m.
Interment will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
MARLENE J. “JANIE” GROSS,
70, died at noon January 11, 2003, at Heartland of Indian Lake.
She was born June 12, 1932, in Lima to Harold Frank and Naomi floe brewer Miller, who preceded her in death. On February 9, 1952, she married
Robert Dean Gross, who died in March 1981.
Mrs. Gross worked as a homemaker. She was a member of Forest Park United Methodist Church and was treasurer for its United Methodist Women for many years. Also at the church, she served on several committees, taught the Seekers Sunday School class and helped with Vacation Bible School every year. She helped work with the election Board for many years. She attended YMCA Cardiac Rehab. She was a graduate of Lima Central High School and worked on the reunion committee. She enjoyed working in the yard.
Survivors include a daughter, Teressa Bitters of DeGraff; a brother, Lyle “Bud” (Sheila) Miller of Lima; two sisters-in-law, Diana Miller of Wapakoneta and Patricia Gross of Lima; two grandchildren, Jessica Bitters and Michele Bitters; and a nephew and six nieces.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Blaine Miller and Bruce Issac Miller.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Park United Methodist Church. The Rev. Larry Hopkins will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

MELYNDA “MINDY” STERLING,
25, died at 8 a.m. January 12, 2003, at her residence.
She was born July 22, 1977, in Lima to James D. and Susan M. Montague Sterling, who survive in Elida. Her fiancé, Shawn Michael Klenke, survives in Waynesfield.
Miss Sterling was a line operator and inspector for Fetter Finishing, Waynesfield. She was a member of Cornerstone Harvest Church, Lima. She was a member of American Legion Post 96 auxiliary, Lima.
Survivors also include a son, Dustin Michael Klenke of Waynesfield, a daughter, Taylor Anne Nicole Sterling of Waynesfield, a sister, Katie Marie Sterling of Elida, paternal grandparents, James and Marylou Sterling Sr. of Elida, maternal grandparents, Richard and Patricia Day of Lima, a niece, Samantha Renee Barton, and her fiancé’s parents, Mike and Mary Klenke of Waynesfield.
She was preceded in death by an uncle, David A. Montague.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cornerstone Harvest Church, Lima. The Rev. David Roberts will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Lima.

ROSE K. JANTZI,
92, formerly of Au Gres, Michigan, died at 4:34 p.m. January 16, 2003, at Otterbein-Cridersville Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for one year. She had resided with her daughter, Ginny Hartman, in Elida for six years prior to living at Otterbein.
She was born January 23, 1910, in Fairview, Michigan to Peter and Lydia Swartz. On June 5, 1937, she married
William Jantzi, who died May 19, 1996.
Mrs. Jantzi was a homemaker who enjoyed working with her husband William on their farm in Au Gres, Michigan. She was a member of Riverside Mennonite church, Au Gres, where she was active in the Sewing Circle and a Sunday school teacher, she was known for her hospitality, giving spirit and love of singing. When she lived in Elida, she volunteered her time, quilting hundreds of baby quilts for various agencies helping infants. While living in Elida, she attended Pike Mennonite Church.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin (Beulah) Jantzi of Au Gres, Michigan and Vernon (Dorothy) Jantzi of Harrisonburg, Virginia, two daughters, Sharon (Herb) Kraybill of Lancaster, PA. and Ginny (Dwight) Hartman of Elida, a brother; Elmer (Helen) Swartz of Au Gres, Michigan, a sister, Edna (Lloyd) Bender of Goshen, Indiana, 10 Grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, John and Levi Swartz, and an infant sister, Anna Swartz.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Riverside Mennonite Church, Au Gres, Michigan. The Revs. Lyle Swartz and Gerald Swartz will officiate. Burial will be in Sims-Whitney Township cemetery, Au Gres. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Pike Mennonite Church, Elida.
