RAY MICHAEL,
91, died at 8:15 a.m. January 17, 2003 at his residence.
He was born May 24, 1911, in Monroe Township to Elsworth and Chloe Bushong Michael, who preceded him in death. On November 26, 1942, he married
Helen Rohrbach, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Michael worked for 24 years as a toolmaker at Ex-Cello/Air flow Textron, Lima retiring in 1976. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men’s club TARP’S Association. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, Lima, and a member of the American Legion Post 93, Eagles 370 and United Auto Workers 211 Retirees. He served in the Army from August 18, 1942, to November 30, 1945, serving in the European Theater during World War II. He also served in Africa, Italy and France. He was a lifelong Democrat.
Survivors also include a son, Kevin R. Michael of Cincinnati; a sister, Clara Beery of Lima; and three grandchildren, Matthew Michael, Casey Michael and Tyler Michael.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Jack Chalk will officiate. Burial will be in Cairo East cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 12 75 after the service.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

LOIS IRENE KIRSCH,
82, died at 4:40 a.m. January 20, 2003, at Sara Jane/VanCrest Living Center, Delphos.
She was born March 16, 1920, in Jenkin Jones, WV., to James Edward and Grace L. Armentrout Presley, who preceded her in death. On December 2, 1948, she married
Jack DeVol Kirsch, who died February 6, 2001.
Mrs. Kirsch retired from Lazarus Department Store. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist church and its women’s group. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, Peter Kirsch of Golden, Colorado, a daughter, Jacqueline L. (James) Boughan of Lima, a brother, Harry E. Presley of Boiling Springs Lake, N.C., five grandchildren, Max Kirsch of Boulder, Colorado, and Ryan Boughan, Alyse (Matt) Hefner, Drew Boughan and Trevor Boughan all of Lima.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Lou Godby, and George, Presley, William Presley, Frank Presley, and Robert Presley, a sister, Leona Huff, and a sister-in-law, Lucille Crow.
Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Jack Chalk will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum.

COLLEEN A. SAINE,
51, died at 5:30 p.m. January 21, 2003, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, following an extended illness.
She was born January 22, 1951, in Lima to Norman and Patricia Doyle Saine, who survives in Lima.
Miss Saine had attended St. Rose Grade School and was a 1969 graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School. She had been married
and lived in southern California for several years prior to becoming ill. She enjoyed a special relationship as “Nanny” with her beloved nephew, Christopher, and nieces, Jillian and Stephanie.
Survivors also include seven brothers, Patrick D. (Jenny) Saine, Mark S. Saine, Tim (Kathy) Saine, John M. Saine, Phillip A. (Becky) Saine and Joseph A. (Judy) Saine, all of Lima, and David L. (Tila) Saine of Dayton; two sisters, Eileen (David) Barger of Clarksville, Tenn., and Kerry (Richard) Tullis of Boise, Idaho; special friend, Hal Wright of Lima; and several uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins, all of whom she maintained a life long and loving relationship with and who will miss her tremendously.
She was preceded in death by a younger sister, Kathleen Saine; and paternal and maternal grandparents.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Rose Catholic Church. The Rev. Christopher Vasko will officiate. Burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date.

RAYMOND A. KOONTZ,
66, died at 12:25 p.m. January 22, 2003, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born December 12, 1936, in Hancock County to Henry and Helen Elzay Koontz, who preceded him in death. On May 11, 1958, he married
Carol Lamphier, who survives.
Mr. Koontz retired as manager of Maplewood Northwood Apartments, after 25 years, and had worked at Crouse Lumber. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple and had helped on the building committee. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 and the American Real Estate Investors Association. He refereed high school sports, especially basketball, for several years. He was a 1954 graduate of Mount Cory high School. He was a veteran of the National Guard.
Survivors also include two sons, William “Bill” (Lynn) Koontz of Lima and Henry (Adrian) Koontz of Lorton, Virginia, a daughter, Rayleen Sterling of Phoenix, a daughter-in-law, Julie Koontz of Lima, three brothers, Richard (Eunice) Koontz of Columbus, Russel (Ruth) Koontz of Bluffton and Robert (Susan) Koontz of Findlay, 14 grandchildren, Joshua Sterling, Jessie Jenner, Lindy Harla, Josie Koontz, Jamie Koontz, Jennifer Koontz, Cindy Koontz, Tammy Koontz, Justin Brassell, William Koontz, Tracy Koontz, Teresa Koontz, Sarah Koontz and Mackenzie Koontz, and a great grandson, Adam Jenner.

ILUMINADA G. MONTANO,
89, died at 5:37 a.m. January 23, 2003, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
She was born November 29, 1913, in the Philippines to Eulalio and Jacinta Yson Gecale, who preceded her in death. On May 15, 1930, in the Philippines, she married
Ambrocio Montano, who died September 8, 1966.
Mrs. Montano was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Gerard’s Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society. She had been a choir organizer and prayer leader in The Barrio Chapel in the Philippines. During World War II, she had volunteered as a cook for the American soldiers and regularly delivered them all kinds of fruits. She moved to the United States on November 23, 1976, to join her children who were living here and had all become American citizens.
Survivors include a son, Gil G. Montano of Lima; six daughters, Nati Banaticla, Josie G. Montano, Eugenia M. (Bayani) Rodis, Lulu M. (Ancing) dela Cruz and Zeny (Ganie) Yumul, all of Lima, and Fely M. (Fred) Hernandez of Norfolk, Virginia; two sister, Paula G. Rubio and Felina G. de Villa, both of the Philippines; 23 grandchildren, Joselito Banaticla, Dr. Jocelyn Banaticla-Wood, Ida Montano, Tolentino Montano, Reynaldo Montano, Lizel Montano, Odilon Montano, Veronica Montano, Jennifer Montano, June Montano, Jason Montano, Maria Teresa Sayoto, Winnifred Sayoto, Marlyn Sayoto, Herbie Sayoto, Malou Rodis, Melissa Rodis, Albert Rodis, Anthony Rodis, Allan dela Cruz, Alvin dela Cruz, Gazen Yumul and Izel Yumul; and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ponciano Montano; a son-in-law, Moises Banaticla, three brothers, Bonifacio, Ireneo and Leonilo Gecale; a sister, Julia Gecale; and two grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Henry Sattler will officiate. Interment will be in Gethsemani cemetery Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a wake service will be held at 9 p.m. and a rosary service, which will be recited in the Filipino language, at 8:30 p.m.

DALE ERNEST SHONKWILER,
68, died at 11:55 A.M. January 24, 2003 at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home.
He was born on September 29, 1934 in Ashland, Ohio to Everett l. and Cleo E. (Warnes) Shonkwiler, who preceded him in death. On November 12, 1954 he married
Mary Jane Schuttera who survives in Lima.
Mr. Shonkwiler worked for the U. S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, Clearwater, Florida. He was a Free & Accepted Mason-Mansfield Lodge.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Shonkwiler, Daughter Teri (Greg) Schockman of Lima and a son Kevin Shonkwiler of Holmes Beach, Florida, and three grandchildren, Alexandra Schockman, Eric Schockman, and Ryan Schockman.
He served in the Army from May 3, 1955 to April 30, 1963.
RONALD L. COURTNEY,
65, died at 3:25 a.m. January 25, 2003, at Auglaize Acres.
He was born September 7, 1937, to Alice Reier Landau, who survives in Lima. In 1992, he married
Sandy Iiams, who survives in Wapakoneta.
Mr. Courtney worked as a boilermaker/millwright and retired from Cooper Tire in 2000. He was a Navy veteran, serving from 1955 to 1959. He enjoyed golf, fishing, boating and billiards.
Survivors also include two sons, Ronald (Mary) Courtney of Lima and Rick (Jeri) Courtney of Bluffton; a stepson, Tom (Kandice) Burton of Lima; three daughters, Marcia (Max) McCafferty of Bluffton, Rebecca (John) Johns of Cridersville and Lucretia (Rich) VanDyke, of Lima; two stepdaughters, Kim Bowersock of Wapakoneta and Shanna (Scott) Worsham of Cridersville; a brother, Rick (Sue) Mahorr of Delphos; a sister; Carol (Ty) Shaner of St. Mary’s; two stepsisters, Bev Duff of Lima and Sue Abraham of Florida; and 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Dave Burden will officiate. The body will be cremated.
