JAMES R. THOMPSON, 74, died at 12:30 a.m. Nov. 19, 2004, at Springview Manor Nursing Home.
He was born July 8, 1930, in Perrysburg to Charles E. and Marie Printy Thompson, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 2, 1950, he married
Nancy M. Halm, who survives.
Mr. Thompson was a licensed optician and provided glasses for many people in Lima. He retired in 1999 from his businesses, Thompson Optical and The Thompson Co., after 38 years. In 1961, he started Lima Optical, after moving from Toledo to Lima. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, where he had been a lay minister, usher, commentator and involved in several youth activities. He was a member of the Opticians Association of America, the Ohio State Licensed Opticians, the State Society National Academy of Opticianry, the Society of Dispensing Opticians of Ohio, the American Board of Opticianry, the Greater Dayton Society of Dispensing Opticians and the Optical Association of Ohio. He was a volunteer and served on the board of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. His proudest association was being a member of the Lima Noon Optimists since 1963, where he had served as president, chairman of the food booth for several years, chairman of the Home Show, was a board member and several other activities through the years. In 1997, he was Optimist of the Year. He was proud of his 41 years of perfect attendance. He attended Toledo University and the Brooklyn School of Optics in New York City. He was a loving husband, father "Pops" and grandfather "Pawpaw", who will be missed. He considered Lima his second hometown. For those who knew him, please celebrate his life.
Survivors also include four sons, Stephen M. (Barbara) Thompson of Columbus, Dr. Jeffrey J. Thompson of Middletown, Mark A. Thompson of Lima and William J. Thompson of Anchorage, Alaska; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

BENJAMIN R. "BEN" ALLEN, 29, died early in the morning on Dec. 2, 2005, at his residence.
Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert. The Rev. Neil Hammons will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge cemetery, Middle Point.

WILLIAM W. LINK, 90, died at 7:51 p.m. Dec. 9, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born June 13, 1915, in Logan Township, Auglaize County, to Ferd G. and Nellie M. Wheeler Link, who preceded him in death. On March 16, 1940, he married
Fern Haverman, who died Aug. 5, 1996.
Mr. Link was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Buckland United Church of Christ. He had served as an Auglaize County commissioner for 11 years and a Logan Township trustee for 23 years. He was a member of the County Commissioners Association for eight years, a member and past president of the Township Trustees Association and served on the Trustee Legislative Committee for five years.
He was a 60-year member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 691, and a 60-year member of the Hamer Lodge 167 Free and Accepted Masons. He was also a member of the Wapakoneta Chapter 183, Royal Arch Masons and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, 1170, both of Wapakoneta. He was a member of the Hawthorne Chapter 119 Order of the Eastern Stars, St. Marys. He was a graduate of the Buckland High School and a member of the Farm Bureau. He was a six-year member of the Buckland Co-op Board of Directors. He had coached the Kossuth Men's softball team for eight years and the Buckland Alumni basketball team for 12 years.
Survivors include two daughters, LuAnna (Allen) Scott and Lorraine (Mark) Ruppert, both of Wapakoneta; a son, Ernest (Freda) Link of Union City, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Renée Link, Mandy Link, Nicole (Kevin) Bailey, Chad Scott, and Melissa, Abbey and Betsy Ruppert; two great-grandchildren; a close friend, Mary Bowersock of Wapakoneta; a brother, Ferd (Betty) Link of Wapakoneta; and a sister-in-law, Connie Link of Wapakoneta.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Link, and a sister, Imogene Deerhake.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta. The Rev. Jeanette Rode Tangeman will officiate. Burial will be in Buckland cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where a Masonic memorial service will be 6:30 p.m. and an Eagles memorial service will be 7:15 p.m.

Lima
MICHAEL A. SCHLATMAN, 48, of So Lola, Guatemala, formerly of Lima, died Sept. 18, 2005, in So Lola.
He was born Oct. 7, 1956, to Henry J. and Lilly Mae Clarkson Schlatman, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Schlatman loved to travel the world. During his travels he obtained several degrees, including one in petroleum engineering. He was a Navy veteran, who also assisted the government in ridding the world of terrorists. This was his way of redeeming himself from mistaken choices made in his early adult life. However, there was no greater sacrifice that he paid than to leave his only son.
Survivors include a son, Lowell Schlatman of Lima; a sister; and a brother.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister.
His sister would like to thank relatives and the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala for their assistance in handling her loss.

Alger
DAVID D. ARNETT, 41, of Hayes, Va., formerly of Alger, died at 4:05 p.m. Jan. 4, 2006, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester, Va.
He was born Jan. 18, 1964, in Lima to Elwood Arnett and Onaville Daniels Kahler. His father and stepmother, Nancy Arnett, survive in Alger. His mother and stepfather, Donald Kahler, survive in Beaverdam.
Mr. Arnett was a tattoo artist. He was a veteran of the Ohio and Virginia National Guard, serving from 1981 to 1992.
Survivors also include a son, Jermey (Sheri) Cameron of Lima; a daughter, Shannon Denise Arnett of Newport News, Va.; five brothers, Darrell Arnett of Lima, Calvin (Tammie) Arnett of Alger and Donald Eugene Kahler, Douglas Kahler and Gary Lee (Shirley) Kahler, all of Newport News, Va.; six sisters, Nellie Smith of Lima, Michelle (Kyle) LeMar of Lakeview, Shonda (Michael) Osborn and Chasity (Jason) Castle, both of Alger, Bonnita Stanford of New Castle, Ind., and Juanita Daniels of Kenton; six grandchildren; paternal grandfather, Bob Kash Arnett of Kenton; and his former wife, Kimberly Ann Arnett of Hayes, Va.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Leslie and Bonnie Daniels; paternal grandmother, Nellie Arnett; and a niece, NiKencie Castle.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger. Pastor Robert Dye will officiate.

Harrod
ARNOLD "ARNIE" E. BAILEY, 63, died at 3:11 a.m. Jan. 6, 2006, in the emergency room at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born May 20, 1942, in Hippo, Ky., to Amos and Nana Shepherd Bailey. His mother preceded him in death. His father survives. On Dec. 17, 1960, in McGuffey, he married
Linda S. Smith, who survives.
Mr. Bailey was an assembler welder at Accubuilt Inc. for 43 years. He attended Harrod Christian Church. He was currently the elected mayor of Harrod. He was a 1961 graduate of Auglaize Local High School, Harrod. He was a former Boy Scout leader, former softball and baseball coach for local and area teams, and was a retired referee for Northwest Ohio Referee Association, for which he refereed football, basketball and softball. He was the bargaining chairman for Local 975 at Accubuilt. When he was younger, he enjoyed sprint car racing. He loved bluegrass music and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors also include a son, Troy E. (Sandy) Bailey of Ada; three daughters, Gina A. (Jon) Sunderland of Spencerville, Ronda S. (Darrel) Dear of Harrod and Brenda J. (Jeff) Birkemeier of Findlay; a brother, Jim Bailey of Lima; two sisters, Faye Gross and Della (David) Blubaugh, both of Lima; and seven grandchildren, Chasity Dear, Lance Dear, Luke Dear, Kristi Sibold, Alyssa Sunderland, Alana Birkemeier and Braden Birkemeier.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Lewis Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Robert Wardle will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Westminster cemetery.
