DELLA M. PATE, 94, died at 10:15 a.m. Aug. 30, 2006, at her home in Alanson, Mich.
She was born March 29, 1912, in Middlesboro, Ky., to James H. and Janie Hatton Mills, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 17, 1930, she married
the Rev. Robert Pate, who died March 9. 1956.
Mrs. Pate retired in 1973 from Pangles Master Market store No. 1, where she worked for 16 years. Her love was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very committed to her faith.
Survivors include a son, Jerry (Geraldine) Pate of Alanson, Mich.; two grandchildren, Greg (Cindy) Pate of LaFollette, Tenn., and Sandy (Warren) Jackson of Harbor Springs, Mich.; five great-grandchildren, Bob Pate, Joe Pate, Darik Jackson, Cody Jackson and Christopher Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and James Mills; and four sisters, Margaret Burden, Victoria Carmony, Elsie Tennyson and Georgia Headrick.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at South Side Christian Church. Her niece, Wanda Werking, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Lima.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.

LORENZO PURCHASE, 99, died at 4:55 a.m. Sept. 2, 2006, at Plus Health Care Center.

DORIS M. PURDY, 91, died the afternoon of Sept. 1, 2006, at The Laurels of Shane Hill, in Rockford.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Celina. Burial will be in Tomlinson cemetery, Union Township, Mercer County.

JONATHAN "A.J." SCHROEDER, 37, died Aug. 31, 2006, from a gunshot wound suffered in the line of duty.
He was born to James and Ginny Byrne Schroeder, who survive. He married
Amy Dominiczak, who survives.
Mr. Schroeder was a detective in the vice unit of the Cleveland Police Department 1st District.
Survivors also include a son, Eric Schroeder; a grandfather, John W. Byrne of Ottoville; four siblings, Jay (Mary) Schroeder, Jeff (Maura) Schroeder, Jan (Jeff Kress) Schroeder and Joel (Jennifer) Schroeder; his mother-in-law, Maryellen Dominiczak; a sister-in-law, Darcy (Don) Weisz; seven nieces and nephews, Michael, Nicholas R., Sara, Nick W., Jakob, Ava and Maddie; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Cleveland. Burial will be Friday in Good Shepherd cemetery, Monroeville, Pa.

Columbus Grove
BEATRICE C. SCHROEDER, 79, died at 12:50 a.m. Sept. 2, 2006, at Triumph Hospital, Lima.
She was born May 12, 1927, in Fort Jennings, to Henry and Catherine Wyant Mack, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 4, 1948, she married
Ralph F. Schroeder, who died Sept. 2, 2001.
Mrs. Schroeder was a homemaker and bookkeeper for the family business, R.F. Schroeder Tractor Sales in Columbus Grove. She had also been a courier for the Union Bank Co., Columbus Grove. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Columbus Grove, and its Altar Rosary Society.
Survivors include five sons, Gerald (Donna) Schroeder, Karl (Lori) Schroeder, Mack (Elaine) Schroeder and Wayne (Judy) Schroeder, all of Columbus Grove, and Mike (Rita) Schroeder of Findlay; four daughters, Ginny Vennekotter of Miller City, Teresa (Jerry) Maag and Connie (Nick) Schroeder, both of Leipsic, and Mary (Albert) Maag of Findlay; 37 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, the Rev. Lawrence, Vincent, Linus, Joe, James and Richard Mack; three sisters, Agnes Wurth, Rosina Geckle and Lucinda Mack; and a son-in-law, Larry Vennekotter.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Columbus Grove. The Rev. Ron Warnimont will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, where a prayer service will begin at 4 p.m.

DEACON GEORGE SMITH Sr., 83, died at 12:40 p.m. Sept. 1, 2006, at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born Aug. 12, 1923, in Vicksburg, Miss., to Frank and Beatrice Watkins Smith, who preceded him in death. On April 4, 1948, he married
Carrie Mae Wilson, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Smith was retired as a machine operator at Ohio Decorative. He was a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the deacons board. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Survivors also include four sons, Frank, H.G., Charles and Leroy Smith; six daughters, Barbara (Jessie) Williams and Delores Smith, Pamela Smith, Clara Smith, Brenda Smith and Frances Smith, all of Lima; 30 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dealia Johnson of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by a son, George Smith Jr.; a daughter, Mary L. Smith; seven brothers, Frank, Jessie, Archie, James, Fred, Ernest and Arie Smith; and five sisters, Sue W. Dunn, Willie E. Johnson. Lou B. Johnson, Inez Smith and Lizzie Berry.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Arnold Manley will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.

JOSEPH SIMPSON "JOSE" THOMPSON, 66, died at 3:09 a.m. Aug. 30, 2006, at Triumph Hospital, Lima.
He was born Aug. 18, 1940, in Florence, Ala., to Henry Clay and Angeline Simpson Thompson, who preceded him in death. On March 30, 1963, he married
Ruthie Tibbs, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Thompson worked for 23 years at Ohio Teledyne Steel, then 12 years at Superior Forge & Steel.
Survivors also include two sons, Jody (Linda) Thompson and Demetrius (Gwen) Thompson, both of Lima; two daughters, Marva Thompson of Lima and Toni Buycks of Dayton; a godson, Cardell Daniels of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bernice Taylor of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Martin and Magnolia Shane; and two brothers, L.W. Thompson Sr., and Forrest E. Thompson.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at New Life Christian Ministries. Elder Edward L. Tibbs will officiate. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum.

JACQUELINE J. "JACKIE" VOLBERT, 78, died at 11:03 a.m. Sept. 2, 2006, at Cleveland Clinic.

RUBY L. WATTERSON DeLONG, 85, died at 2:29 a.m. Dec. 14, 2006, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
She was born May 29, 1921, in Shawnee Township to Andrew Franklin and Merlie Thompson Hinkle, who preceded her in death. On April 10, 1943, she married
Arnold Watterson, who died Sept. 29, 1990. On July 12, 1997, she married
Charles E. DeLong, who survives.
Mrs. DeLong was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Cridersville, and its Ruth Circle and Kinship Clowns. She was a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include a son, John M. (Diane) Watterson, of Cridersville; two daughters, Ann Stahler, of Lima, and Irene (Richard) Bowersock, of Cridersville; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Karen) Hinkle, of Cridersville; and two sisters, Velma Geyer, of Cridersville, and Agnes Golden, of Lima.
She was preceded in death by a son, Bruce L. Watterson; a brother, Clyde Hinkle; and a sister, Beulah Putt.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Cridersville. The Rev. James C. Couser will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
