ROBERT TRUE PURNELL, 79, died April 11, 2004.
He was born Nov. 25, 1924, in Columbus to Robert and Celestine Purnell, who preceded him in death. His wife, Frances Purnell, died July 23, 1999.
Mr. Purnell retired from the Air Force after 28 years and also retired from the state of Ohio after several years. He was a member of United Brethren in Christ Church of Park Layne. He was a member of New Carlisle Masonic Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He has been and will always be our "Papa True." The family would like to thank the staff at Dayspring, Enon, for all of its help and compassion through his illness.
Survivors include three daughters, Adrienne (Ed) Anders and Donna (Jerry) Fewer, both of New Carlisle, and Beverly (Gary) Ream of North Hampton; six grandchildren, Helen (Eric) Lutz, Missy (Doodle) Mckee, Rhonda (Jeff) Browning, Michael (Regina) Fewer, Stephanie (Chad) Hennigan, Tiffany Ream and Jen Starbuck; 11 great-grandchildren, Joshua Mckee, Michael Mckee, Ashley Hildum, Sarah Hildum, Grant Hildum, Cheyenne Browning, Brandon Fewer, Emma Hennigan, Andy Lutz, Allen Lutz and Adrienne Lutz; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Mike Browning and Lee Browning; adopted families, Richard, Darlene, Nicole and Heather Culling, Phyllis, Paul and Helen Littlefield and Debi Waller; and devoted friends, Al Adams and Red Huffman.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at United Brethren in Christ Church of Park Layne. Pastors Roland Albert and Dan Witter will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum, Springfield.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Trostel, Chapman & Christmas Funeral Home, New Carlisle.

Columbus Grove
MILDRED L. RETTIG, 85, died at 5:15 p.m. April 10, 2004, at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.
She was born May 13, 1918, in Jeffersonville, Ind., to Ed and Jesse Rogers Brummett, who preceded her in death. On July 2, 1944, she married
Paul M. Rettig, who died May 20, 1989.
Mrs. Rettig was a homemaker. She was a member of Columbus Grove United Church of Christ. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge, Garden City, Mich. She enjoyed needlework, quilting, crocheting, knitting and tatting.
Survivors include three daughters, Revilla (Paul) Hegwood of Curran, Mich., Shirley (Charles) Best of North Fort Myers, Fla., and Patricia (Ralph) Anderson of Columbus Grove; and nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ed, John and Connie Brummett.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Burial will be in Campbell cemetery, Columbus Grove.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

BERNICE SLANE SCOTT, 84, died at 4 p.m. April 11, 2004, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.
She was born Oct. 2, 1919, in Allen County to George and Mabel Pickering Heffner, who preceded her in death. She married
David LeRoy Slane, who died Oct. 5, 1953. In 1958, she married
Henry Ernest Scott, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Scott retired in 1985 as a secretary from Ohio Northern University, Ada. She was a member of County Line Church of the Brethren, Harrod.
Survivors include two sons, Terry (Carol) Slane of Lafayette and Kevin Slane of Mount Cory; a daughter, Cheryl (Dale) Miller of Mount Cory; a stepson, Gary (Mary) Scott of Virginia; a stepdaughter, Sherry McCurdy Bolen of Ada; and 10 grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Margaret Heffner.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada. Pastor David Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Salem cemetery, Westminster
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.

DON W. THWAITS, 86, died at 2:25 p.m. April 12, 2004, at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys.

FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT WILLIAMS, 69, died at 3:26 p.m. April 8, 2004, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 20, 1934, in Florence, Ala., to Charlie and Mary L. Harris Williams, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Williams retired as a construction worker. He was a member of Union Local 329 and the AMVETS. He was a very avid pool player.
Survivors include two sons, Lieutenant Clemons and Ricky Williams, both of Columbus; four daughters, Vanessa (Henry) Carter of Lima, Alicia Simmons of Chillicothe, Susie Williams of Phenix City, Ala., and Carla (Brett) Woods of Lima; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bennett T. (Ann) Williams of Columbus and Jimmy (Magnolia) Williams of Lima; two sisters, Sally Williams of Richmond, Calif., and Evergreen Williams of Oakland, Calif.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth "Ludie" Horace, Annie R. Lewis and Elnora Gilleylen.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Temple. Elder Michael Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Jones-Clark Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.

RONALD M. BREITIGAM, 61, died at 8:05 a.m. Aug. 15, 2004, at St. Vincent’s Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at High Street United Methodist Church, Fostoria. The Revs. Jeffrey L. Waite and Bill Hunter will officiate. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria, with military rites by the United Veterans of Fostoria.

CARL H. BROOKHART, 80, died at 11:20 a.m. Aug. 15, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Mercer County to Homer and Lydia Good Brookhart, who preceded him in death. On March 30, 1945, he married
Ruth Ilena Burke, who died Sept. 19, 2000.
Mr. Brookhart retired as a plumber and skilled trades committeeman from Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant. He attended Shawnee Alliance Church. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 1219. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include twin daughters, Barbara J. Brookhart and Beverly J. Young, both of Lima; a son, Daniel Carl Brookhart of Lima; a granddaughter, Barb (Darren) Patton of Lima; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Matthew Patton; a brother, Stanley (Trudy) Brookhart of Lima; and five sisters, Dorothy Rice of Lima, Loa (Birdall) Walker of St. Marys, Wanda (Lowell) Ferner of Portland, Ind., Beulah (Billie) Buck of Celina and Janice Hone of Mendon.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Brookhart; and two brothers-in-law, Raymond Rice and Joe Hone.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The Rev. Daniel Messner will officiate. Burial will be in Swamp College cemetery, Celina, with military rites.
