Bluffton
CORNELIUS "NEIL" SCHMIDT, 78, of Lake City, Fla., formerly of Lima, died Dec. 29, 2005.
He was born July 3, 1927, in Reinfeld, Russia, to Abram and Anna Wiebe Schmidt, who preceded him in death. His wife of 56 years, Rosemary Schmidt, survives.
Mr. Schmidt coached football for 20 years. He then became a scout for professional football, spending three years with Blesto 8, a scouting combine for eight NFL teams, and then 20 years for the San Francisco 49ers. During his association with the "Niners" they won five Super Bowls. After is retirement he pursued his favorite pastime of golf and made five holes in one. He enjoyed the challenge to win and his love for sports was a focal point for his life.
His family moved to the United States when he was 2 years old, settling in Bluffton, where he excelled as a high school athlete in football and basketball. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Construction Battalion (Seabees). Following his discharge, he returned to Bluffton and completed his senior year of high school. He received a football scholarship to Purdue University, where he played halfback, offensively and defensively. His senior year he was runner up for scoring honors in football and basketball and was selected by his coaches to received the coveted Gimlet Club's trophy, which was presented to the senior athlete judged to be the most outstanding in his four years at Purdue. He received a bachelor's degree in physical education from Purdue, where he was awarded the Big Ten Medal as Scholar Athlete. In 1958, he received his master's degree from Bowling Green State University.
Survivors also include a daughter, Kim Williams of Baja, Calif.; a son, R. Scott (Darra) Schmidt of Atlanta; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, John (Elva) Schmidt of Oakdale, Calif.; a sister, Mary (Fred) Amstutz of Bluffton; and a stepsister, Norma Zimmerly of Bluffton.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Abram and Peter Schmidt; and a sister, Alice (Wayne) Sommer.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Lake City, Fla. The Rev. Dr. Roy Martin will officiate.
Local arrangement are by Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Bluffton.

Glandorf
PAUL SCHROEDER, 83, died at 1:50 p.m. Jan. 9, 2006, at Calvary Manor Nursing Home, Glandorf.
Arrangements are incomplete at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa.

Sebastian
AGNES J. SCHWIETERMAN, 94, died at 9:45 a.m. Jan. 7, 2006, at her residence.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian. Father Harry Cavanaugh will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Sebastian cemetery Fund.

Lima
MILDRED "MILLY" WORKMAN, 81, died at 7 a.m. Jan. 8, 2006, at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home.
She was born March 23, 1924, in Lima to Berardino and Alfonsina Sarnelli Bavaro Bowers, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 15, 1945, she married Calvin Workman, who died Oct. 5, 1989.
Mrs. Workman retired from the Allen County Board of Elections and had been a business manager for Learning to Learn School and the Allen County Reading Clinic. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. She served as chairwoman of the Republican Party for 30 years and served on the board for Mental Health and Mental Retardation. She and her husband were instrumental in the building and opening of Robin Rogers School. She was a 1942 graduate of Lima South High School and attended The Ohio State University. Sje loved to spend time with family and friends.
Survivors include a son, Judge Rickard (Rosa) Workman of Lima; a sister, Gladys Perrine of Lima; two grandsons, Ryan Calvin "R.C." Workman and Chad Alexander Workman; and several nieces and nephews, including Pudge Gordon Cruse, whom she helped raise.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Mitchell Daniel "Danny" Workman; four brothers, Joe (Peg) Bowers, Anthony (Eleanor) Bowers, Charlie Bowers and Lawrence (Lois) Bowers; a sister, Micky (Gus) Gustin; and a brother-in-law, D.J. Perrine.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Catholic Church. The Rev. Steve Blum will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita's Hospice, 770 W. North St., Lima, OH 45801; Alzheimer's Association-West Central Ohio, 892 S. Cable Road, Lima, OH 45805; or Elderly Day Care Center, 225 E. High St., Lima, OH 45801.

Pandora
VERNA D. AMSTUTZ, 95, died at 1:30 p.m. April 23, 2006, at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.
She was born May 13, 1910, in Putnam County to Henry and Catherine DeVore Miller, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 22, 1927, she married Lawrence T. Amstutz, who died Aug. 25, 1992.
Mrs. Amstutz was a homemaker and a farmer's wife. She was member of Pandora United Methodist Church, where she was a member of its Women's Society and was a Bible schoolteacher. She enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Survivors include a son, Lawrence (Betty) Amstutz Jr. of Pandora; a daughter, Joan (James) Foster of Pandora; a sister, Mary Bennett of Lima; four grandchildren, David Amstutz, Steven Amstutz, Matthew (Karen) Foster and Marci (Bob) Stahl; and three great-grandchildren, James Foster, Sarah Foster and Benjamin Stahl.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Shirl Miller; and four sisters, Nell Edwards, Velma Diller, Rose Huysmand, and Ruth Reese.
Graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. today in Harman cemetery, Gilboa. The Rev. Mark Hollinger will officiate.
Friends may call one hour prior to services today at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Bluffton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pandora United Methodist Church.

Van Wert
OLIVE LOUISE BAGLEY, 101, died at 6:30 p.m. April 22, 2006, at VanCrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are by Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert.

Cridersville
IRVIN DIRR, 87, died at 1:55 a.m. April 24, 2006, at Medical College of Ohio, Toledo.
He was born June 10, 1918, in New Bavaria to Oliver and Viola Kilpatrick Dirr, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 30, 1940, he married June Peck, who survives in Cridersville.
Mr. Dirr had been a petroleum distributor for Sohio in Holgate from 1947 to 1969. He then merged with Joe Biler to form Dirr & Biler Oil Co. Inc., where he was president of the company until it was sold in 1981. He was a member of Holgate United Methodist Church, Holgate, and attended Harvest Baptist Church, Wapakoneta. He was a member of the Holgate Lions Club, where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He and his wife moved into the Otterbein-Cridersville Retirement Community in 1996.
Survivors also include two sons, Larry (Roberta) Dirr of Hamler and Loren (Susan) Dirr of Maumee; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
Memorial services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holgate United Methodist Church, Holgate. Pastors Deb Berry, Tony Dirr and Gary Bragg will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Riverside cemetery, Defiance.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holgate United Methodist Church, Harvest Baptist Church or Otterbein-Cridersville Retirement Community.
Arrangements are by Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.

Lima
LEWIS DAVID "BUD" GREENWALT Sr., 80, died at 8:30 a.m. April 24, 2006, at his residence.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Siferd Funeral Homes, where arrangements are incomplete.

Buckland
WILLIAM P. "BILL" HEIL, 60, died April 23, 2006, at his residence.
He was born May 30, 1945, in Spencerville to George E. and Louetta B. Johnson Heil, who preceded him in death. On June 26, 1970, he married Penny J. Hixenbaugh, who survives in Buckland.
Mr. Heil was a custodian at St. Joseph School, Wapakoneta. He was a member of Buckland United Church of Christ. He was a proud grandpa. He loved woodworking and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors also include two sons, Thomas William Heil of Akron and Steven Phillip (Sheri) Heil of Wapakoneta; five grandchildren, Becky, Jodi, Colby, Bailey and Clay; a brother, Carl D. Heil of Spencerville; a sister, Mary Ann (Don) Coby of Cridersville; and two sisters-in-law, Carol Heil of Spencerville and Patsy (Stephen) Marshall of Lima.
He was preceded in death by a brother, David A. Heil, who died in 1992.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph School, Wapakoneta. Pastor Cliff Bollenbacher and the Rev. Max Andrew will officiate. Burial will be in Buckland cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the school.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph School Bill Heil Memorial Fund or the Buckland United Church of Christ.
