Delphos
FRED H. CROSS, 82, died at 10:15 p.m. Dec. 17, 2006, at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home, Spencerville.
He was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Delphos to William J. and Nellie Fair Cross, who preceded him in death. On July 15, 1947, he married
Helen Martin, who survives in Delphos.
Mr. Cross was owner of Cross's Orchard from 1960 to 1985 and had retired from Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant, after 28 years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelical Catholic Church, Delphos. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3035 and a member of American Legion Post 268, both in Delphos. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a guard patrolman and carbine marksman. He received the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, four Bronze Stars and the Europe/Africa/Middle East Campaign Medal. He has also received the Central Europe Diploma for the French invasion of Normandy and the Northern France World War II certificate from Walter Hogan, who was the national commander of the VFW.
Survivors also include five sons, Gerald (Laurita) Cross, Roy (Carol) Cross, Anthony (Lisa M.) Cross and Fred (Lisa A.) Cross, all of Delphos, and Gregory (Kelly) Cross, of Fort Jennings; a daughter, Mary T. (domestic partner, James Hensley) Trenkamp, of Rockford; three sisters, Gladys Sanders, of Holland, Mich., Ruth Cooper, of Delphos, and Marcille (Dorris) Rucker, of Florida; a brother, Richard Cross, of Fresno, Calif.; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William T. Cross.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. Father Melvin Verhoff will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military rites by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Lima
ROGER OWEN BURKHOLDER, 63, of Bryan, formerly of Lima, died Dec. 15, 2006, at Mercy Hospital, Defiance.
He was born Aug. 2, 1943, in Salem to Joseph A. and Fay E. Lehman Burkholder, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 28, 1967, in Lima, he married
Patricia A. Barnes, who survives.
Mr. Burkholder retired in 1998 as the orchestra director and tennis coach from Bryan City Schools after 25 years. He had also taught at Lima City Schools for eight years. He was owner and operator of Classique Chimney Sweepe, Bryan, since 1979. He had been a member of the Lima Symphony Orchestra. He was a graduate of Leetonia High School, received his bachelor's degree from Bluffton College and received his master's degree in music from Bowling Green State University.
Survivors also include two sons, Kyle (Natalie) Burkholder, of Grabill, Ind., and the Rev. Kevin (Julie) Burkholder, of Akron; three grandchildren, Alexa, David and Thomas Burkholder; a brother, Raymond (Judy) Burkholder; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two infant daughters.
Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, Bryan. The Rev. Dwight E. Bowers will officiate. Burial will be in Brown cemetery, Bryan.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or a scholarship fund being developed for orchestra students at Bryan High School.
Pandora
LANA MARIE SALAZAR, 18 months, died Dec. 17, 2006, at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Bluffton.
She was born June 8, 2005, in Bluffton to Michael and Jennifer Mericle Salazar, who survive.
Lana was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Delphos.
Survivors also include a sister, Lena Renee Salazar, at home; paternal grandmother, Nina Scoles, of Pandora; maternal grandparents, Nancy and Jerry Mericle, of Delphos; maternal great-grandparents, Marjorie and Hubert Truman of Delphos; and several aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Walter Scoles.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Bluffton. The Rev. David Howell will officiate. Burial will be in Clymer cemetery, Bluffton.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Minster
LARRY NEIL APPLE, 36, died at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 17, 2006, at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys.
He was born May 17, 1970, in Piqua to Larry and Mary Lewis Apple, who survive.
Mr. Apple was a volunteer social worker at Lutheran Social Services, Lima, and at a soup kitchen. He was a member of St. Bonifas Catholic Church, Piqua, and attended St. Rose Catholic Church, Lima.
Survivors also include a sister, Lisa (Ryan) McKinney, of Troy; five nieces and nephews, Michael, Megan, Cole, Colt and Kylee; his grandmother, Anne Lewis, of Piqua; special friends, Irma and Paul Perani, of Lima; his cat, Gabe; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Fort Loramie. The Rev. Steven Shoup will officiate.
Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.

Van Wert
HELEN EILEEN BLOOMFIELD, 88, died at 8 p.m. Dec. 17, 2006, at VanCrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.
Services will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert. Pastor Raymond E. Feeck will officiate. Burial will be Thursday in Greenlawn cemetery, Nelsonville.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

St. Marys
WILLARD LEROY BYRNS, 81, died at 4:45 a.m. April 22, 2007, at Otterbein, St. Marys.
Memorial services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina. Father Tony Cutcher will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Union City, cemetery, Union City, with military rites.

Lima
HELEN L. HUENKE, 82, died at 2:50 p.m. April 21, 2007, at VanCrest Health Care Center.
She was born April 25, 1924, in Youngstown to Harry and Edna Dettman Weldgen, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 6, 1945, she married
Theodore Huenke, who died Dec. 22, 1994.
Mrs. Huenke was a homemaker and had retired from the credit department at Sears. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. She was an avid reader and talented writer. She loved her family and church.
Survivors include eight sons, Gary Steven (Patty) Huenke, of Pensacola, Fla., Ted E. (Karen) Huenke, of Syosset, N.Y., Joseph (Anita) Huenke, of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla., James (Elaine) Huenke, of Columbus, Robert "Bo" Huenke, of Lima, Roger (Debbie) Huenke, of Providence, R.I., and Daniel (Katie) Huenke and Thomas Huenke, all of Columbus; two daughters, Connie Ritter, of Lima, and Mary Rose (Brian) Sohner, of Hilliard; three sisters, Sister Edna Mae Weldgen, of Milwaukee, Sister Barbara Weldgen, of Boston, and Sister Rose Martin (Alice) Weldgen, of Milwaukee; and 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marion Weldgen Siefker and JoAnna Weldgen.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rose Catholic Church. The Rev. William Rose will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery.

St. Marys
ROBERT M. "C.B." KANTNER, 59, died at 11:35 a.m. April 22, 2007, from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident on state Route 197, east of Moulton-Fort Amanda Road, Auglaize County.
He was born July 15, 1947, in Lima to Norman L. and Mable "Jean" Malston Kantner. He was preceded in death by his father. His mother survives in Lima. On Jan. 20, 2004, in Las Vegas, he married
JoAnn Slone, who survives.
Mr. Kantner retired as a production employee from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., after 30 years. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 691, Wapakoneta, and had been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a graduate of Wapakoneta Senior High School. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a husband and father who dearly loved his family. He enjoyed gambling, playing cards and bingo, and especially riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Survivors also include a daughter, Annette (Larry) Sexton, of Cridersville; two sons, Timothy (Tracy) Kantner and Douglas Kantner, both of Lima; a stepson, Jeremy Newbauer, of Dayton; two stepdaughters, Heather (Brian) Nicholson, of Dayton, and Tara (Wesley Prater) Newbauer, of St. Marys; five brothers, James (Elsie) Kantner, of Lima, William (Toni) Kantner, of St. Marys, and Richard (Terry) Kantner, Kenneth Kantner and Daniel Kantner, all of Wapakoneta; 10 grandchildren, McKenzie, Todd, Jeremy, Duncan, Chelsea, Kaitlin, Sydney, Jacob, Elizabeth and Aiden; two brothers-in-law, Charles Slone, of St. Marys, and Wayne Slone, of Hindman, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Shirley (James) Wicker, of St. Marys; and his extended family of motorcycle buddies, Daryl, Snake, Dale, Chet, Bruce, Charlie, Brian, Denny, Marty, Joe Bubba and Chance.
He was preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Holland and Vera Slone Sr.; a brother-in-law, Berlin Slone; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Slone.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys. Ministers Laban Daniel and Ed Rhodes will officiate. Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery, St. Marys, with military rites.
