Ronald Osborne
Died: Friday, August 31, 2001
CHESTER -- Ronald Earl Ozzie Osborne of Chester died at 8 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Parkersburg, W.Va.
He was born March 13, 1917, in Hazel, Ohio, son of Mont and Edith Stethen Osborne. He belonged to Carpenters Union Local 899, Parkersburg, for 50 years.
He was a fire controlman 3rd class in the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. L.S.T. 373 and U.S.S. L.S.T. 163 in the Atlantic and Pacific wars. He served over 25 years on the Veterans Services Commission of Meigs County, from 1973 to 1998.
He was baptized in July 1939 in the Christian Church in Keno, Ohio. He served as an elder and taught Sunday school classes for many years, contributing his skills and services throughout his Christian membership. In later years, he attended Hickory Hill Church of Christ.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ella Queen Osborne, whom he married Sept. 15, 1937. Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and F. Edwin Doherty of Belpre; a daughter and son-in-law, Ronalee and Wilford Gapetz of Salisbury, Md.; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Nancy Osborne of Seward, Alaska; a son, Martin Osborne of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren, Monte Doherty of Virginia, April Reese of Washington, D.C., Derek Reese of Delaware, Jean Osborne Auberginsky of Dayton and Brian Osborne of Seward, Alaska; and three great-grandchildren, Shane, Dustin and Ryan Reese of Delaware; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was a loving husband and father. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Dorsel Osborne.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at White-Moquin Funeral Home, Coolville. Following the service, graveside rites with a Veterans of Foreign Wars salute will be held at Reedsville Cemetery.
Viewing hours are today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Max Zaksek
Died: Friday, August 31, 2001
ALBANY -- Max Zaksek, 50, of Grove City, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, following a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Dean Zaksek; a daughter, Bridget Zaksek of Grove City; his mother, Betty Zaksek of Brownsville, Pa.; a sister, Eileen Foley of Florida; his mother-in-law, Yvonne Anderson of Albany; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Master Sgt. Kevin and Suzi Dean of Virginia Beach, Va.
Friends may call at Schoedinger Funeral Home, 3920 Broadway, Grove City, on Saturday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Brownsville, Pa.
Mary Lou Conger
Died: Thursday, August 30, 2001
WELLSTON -- Mary Lou Conger, 75, of Wellston, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe.
Born Oct. 25, 1925, in Wellston, she was the daughter of the late David E. and Hattie Rose. She is survived by her husband, Joe Conger.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ridgewood Cemetery, Wellston. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston.
Florence Courtney
Died: Thursday, August 30, 2001
LOGAN -- Florence K. Courtney, 84, of Logan, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at her residence.
Born April 4, 1917, in Haydenville, she was the daughter of the late Kella O. and Helen E. Merriman Mount. She was the widow of Fred R. Courtney.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Carmen Green
Died: Thursday, August 30, 2001
LOGAN -- Carmen Lucille Anderson Green, 81, Lancaster, passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Sunbridge Nursing Home, Lancaster.
She was born Aug. 5, 1920, in Hocking County, daughter of the late Thomas and Clara Davis Anderson. She was married to the late Harold Green. She was a member of the Baptist Church, Marietta.
A graveside memorial service will be held at the family's convenience.
Arrangements are by Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan.
Lourella Weaver
Died: Thursday, August 30, 2001
GLOUSTER -- Lourella Mae Weaver, 77, of Columbus, passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Mount Carmel East Medical Center in Columbus.
She was born Jan. 27, 1924, in Glouster, daughter of the late Elmer and Elizabeth Miller Tippie.
She was married to Thomas R. Weaver of Columbus. She was a mail clerk for Charles E. Merrill Co. in Columbus.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother, William Tippie of Glouster; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home in Glouster, with John Wright officiating. Interment will be in Dew Cemetery, Glouster.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, from noon until time of services.
Ronald Winchell
Died: Thursday, August 30, 2001
NELSONVILLE -- Ronald G. Winchell, 31, of Nelsonville, passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at his residence. He was born Feb. 15, 1970, in Athens County.
He is survived by his father, Charles E. Winchell; two brothers, Charles E. Winchell Jr. and David Winchell; three sisters, Cathy Winchell, Sharon Winchell Hutmire and Sherry Arnold, all of Nelsonville.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Delores Chilcote Winchell; a sister, Shiela Monroe; and a brother, Robert Winchell.
Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with Pastor David Cogar officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.

Geneva Fisher
Died: Wednesday, August 29, 2001
CHESTERHILL -- Geneva Prewitt Fischer, 64, of Columbus, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at James Cancer Center in Columbus.
Born May 4, 1937, in Samantha, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Jessie F. and Mary Jane Wheat Prewitt. She was a homemaker who loved flowers, and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Samantha.
She is survived by her husband, Daryl; two sons, James Phillip Thomas of Columbus, and Frankie Lee Wilson of Westerville; two daughters, Helen Sue Jenkins of Glouster, and Theresa Louise Burke of Columbus; nine grandchildren and a great-grandson; three brothers, Jessie Prewitt of Baltimore, Md., Robert Lewis Prewitt of North Port, Ala., and J.L. Prewitt of Westberry, N.Y.; six sisters, Priscilla Faye Houston of Cleveland, Emma Jean Dawson of Trenton, N.J., Minnie Ruth Prewitt of Westberry, Dorothy Jean Portis of Wilmington, Del., Ruby Ann Prewitt of New Castle, Del., and Susie Marie Edwards of North Port.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Prewitt.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Mount Hermon Church near Amesville, with the Rev. Henry Mayle officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
Friends may call at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Saturday one hour prior to services.
Richard Campbell
Died: Tuesday, August 28, 2001
ATHENS -- Richard R. Campbell, 78, of Dublin, Ohio, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
He was born March 25, 1923, in Athens County, son of Arthur Donald and Marguerite Rice Campbell. He attended Pomeroy High School and graduated from Rome-Canaan High School in Stewart. He graduated summa cum laude from Ohio University in 1947, and later acquired a masters degree in journalism from Kent State University. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific.
He married Margaret Jandes on Feb. 9, 1946. Richard began working for the Cleveland Press in 1947 and continued there for 30 years. During that time, he served as assistant city editor, chief editorial writer, associated editor and managing editor. In 1975, he was placed on a leave of absence by Scripps Howard newspapers to participate in the Newspaper Systems Development Group, a project to computerize page makeup. Mr. Campbell became editor of the Columbus Citizen-Journal in 1977 and continued until the newspaper's demise in 1986. In 1986-87, he became editorial promotion adviser for Scripps Howard Newspapers.
He became a trustee of Ohio University in 1985 and ultimately served as president of the board for two years. In 1986, he was appointed to the board of Columbus Metropolitan Library. His professional memberships include Phi Beta Kappa, American Society of Newspaper Editors, Sigma Delta Chi and Sigma Pi. He also was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Scioto Country Club, Columbus Athletic Club, Kit-Kat Club and Torch Club, and was a past president of Cleveland City Club. He received the Outstanding Alumni Award for achievement in journalism from Ohio University in 1962, and the Carr Van Anda Award from the OU School of Journalism in 1983.
He enjoyed swimming, reading, bird watching and playing the saxophone; but above all, he was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Margaret; son and daughter-in-law Christopher and Linda Campbell of Leawood, Kansas; daughter Constant Connie Campbell of Lakewood; and grandchildren Matthew Ian and Adam Andrew Campbell.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 10 a.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1581 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus, with Frank Luchsinger officiating.
A private interment will be held for the family at West Union Street Cemetery in Athens.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Richard and Margaret Jandes Campbell Scholarship Fund at Ohio University; or to the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, 1580 King Ave., Columbus, 43212-2000.
Joseph Caplinger
Died: Tuesday, August 28, 2001
WELLSTON -- Joseph R. Caplinger, 63, of Wellston, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Chillicothe.
Born March 24, 1938, in Wellston, he was the son of the late Rinard and Berdie Rowland Caplinger. He was an Army veteran.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Dorothy Coleman of Jackson; and a stepson, Donnie Ray Robinson of Jackson.
Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, with military services conducted by American Legion Post 371 of Wellston.
