Clara White
Died: Monday, August 13, 2001
ATHENS -- Clara B. White, 94, of Athens, died Monday morning, Aug. 13, 2001, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born Feb. 5, 1907, in Pratts Fork, she was the daughter of the late William and Myrtle Howett Gilkey.
Mrs. White was a sales clerk for Altman's and Martings Department Stores, a member of Athens First United Methodist Church, and a 70-year member of Athens Chapter 175 Order of Eastern Star, Ladies Oriental Shrine and Athens County Shrinettes. Mrs. White was a graduate of Shade High School and a longtime Athens resident of Morris Avenue, Richland Avenue and Beal Road.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Carol White of Cygnet; a granddaughter and her husband, Lisa and Tom Ricker of Van Buren; and a sister, Nancy Perry of Athens.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. White, in 1992; and a brother, Grant Gilkey.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, 1 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Mary Jo Yeakel officiating. Burial of ashes will be in Athens Memory Gardens.
Athens Chapter 175 OES will hold services at the funeral home on Saturday at 12:45 p.m.

Naomi Meyers
Died: Sunday, August 12, 2001
LOGAN -- Naomi G. Myers, 81, of Logan, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born July 16, 1920, in Gallia County, she was the youngest of eight children of the late Issac and Rachel Clark. She was the widow of John J. Myers Jr., who died in March of 1996.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda K. Bensonhaver of Logan, and Mrs. Dennis (Carole) Martin of Swoope, Va.; seven grandchildren, Anita Bensonhaver, Mrs. Larry (Rhonda) Nihiser, Mrs. Scott (Lucinda) Cordle, Janina Bensonhaver, Mrs. Cale (Rachel) Godfrey, Mrs. David (Sarah) Landis, and Douglas Martin; seven great-grandchildren, Bradley, Mitchell and Nicholas Cordle, Isaiah and Samuel Godfrey, and Camden and Claire Landis; a sister, Mary Notter; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a 60-year active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Logan, a Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years, a member of of the Church Altar and Ladies Guilds, Lutheran Women's Missionary League and Lutheran Layman's League, and a supporter of Hocking Valley Community Hospital Foundation. She enjoyed flower gardening and time with family and friends.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 430 N. Mulberry St. in Logan, with Pastor Danny Koch officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends and relatives may call at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home in Logan on Friday from 2 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Saturday one hour prior to services.

Helen M. Black

PORTLAND -- Helen M. Black, 81, of Portland, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at her residence.
Born Feb. 5, 1922, in Meigs County, she was the daughter of the late Homer L. and Daisy Elizabeth Cochran Lawson. She is survived by children Cathy, Danny, Larry, Bob and Garry Black, Joan Dailey, Diana Hysell and Cheryl James. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Richard Black.
Services will be Monday, 1 p.m., at Browning Cemetery, Portland.

Robert Gene Hart

Age: 74
RACINE -- Robert Gene Hart, 74, of Racine, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at his residence.
Born May 26, 1928, in Racine, he was the son of the late Earl and Fannie Hart. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Mae Hayman Hart; sons Bruce and Brice Hart; and daughters Beverly Cunningham and Beth Casto.
Services will be Sunday, 2 p.m., at Cremeens Funeral Home, Racine. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

John A. Miller
Died: Thursday, March 13, 2003
Age: 84
BUCHTEL -- John A. Miller, 84, son of the late Frank and Mary Miller of Oregon Ridge, Athens County, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, in Louisville, Ky.
He was formerly stationed at Yuma Army Airfield in Yuma, Ariz., as a B-17 pilot, and served during World War II as a Mats pilot. He was also an active member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and two Knights of Columbus chapters, as 3rd Degree member of the Pope John XXIII council, and as a 4th Degree member of the Msgr. Bouchet Assembly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecelia York Miller. He is survived by his children, C.C. Miller and Stephen Miller of California, and Kathi Miller Shulthise of Louisville; sisters Ethel McConnell and Elizabeth Dietrich of Ohio; a brother, Edward Miller of Michigan; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Jefferson County, Kentucky, today from 3 to 6 p.m. with a funeral Mass to follow at 7 p.m. Service also will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Buchtel Cemetery, Nelsonville.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice and Palitive care of Louisville.

Virginia M. Bocook

WELLSTON -- Virginia M. Bocook, 68, of Wellston, died today, March 12, 2003, at Heartland of Jackson.
Born May 17, 1934, in Oak Hill, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Clara Johnson Holberg. She is survived by daughters Garnet Morgan and Melody Workman, and sons John and Steve Bocook. She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Bocook.
Services will be Saturday, 1 p.m., at McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.

Born Nov. 7, 1939, in Jamboree, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Virginia Smith Dotson. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Daugherty.

Okie Ferguson

Age: 81
ATHENS -- Okie Ferguson, 81, of Marshfield Road, Athens, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 2, 1921, in Terryville, Lawrence County, Ky., he was the son of the late Milard and Celia Rigsby Ferguson. He was a union pipe fitter, a member of Local 577 of Portsmouth and an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Janis Bailey Ferguson; sons Thomas (Barbara) of Athens and James of Albany; grandchildren Warren Ferguson and Susan Bailes of New Marshfield, Alisa (Michael) Blair of Athens and Mindy Ferguson of California; a special nephew, Bill Rigsby; and a special caregiver, Sharon Smith.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
Services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany, with Pastor Michael Rose officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens.

Born June 1, 1935, in Hartford, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Donald M. and Virginia Mae Justice Roush. She is survived by her husband, Melvin Freeman; and her children, Christy Duncan, Pam Persons, Missy Thoma and Ronnie Davis.

Born Nov. 16, 1923, in Meigs County, she was the daughter of the late Walter S. and Mary Searles Hysell.
She is survived by children Linda Saxon, Judy Radi, Joyce Durham, Martha Groves, Debbie George, Edward Manley, Robert Manley, John Manley and Steven Manley.
Service will be held Friday, 10 a.m., at Cremeens Funeral Home, Gallipolis. Burial will be in Franklin Hills Memory Gardens, Canal Winchester.
